The Red Sox are back scuffling, losers of nine of their last 12 games. The Twins, on the other hand, have won five in a row.
Yet the price on the home Twins is rather low, lower than I expected. Michael Wacha is the reason for this.
Wacha has been tremendous for Boston this season going 9-1 with a 2.53 ERA. He's in excellent form, too, with a 2.61 ERA in his past eight starts.
But the Twins have a decent starter going, Joe Ryan, and get check marks in the other areas, including a big one in how the teams are playing right now.
Boston is on a three-game losing streak with the average losing margin being by five runs.
Ryan is 10-6 with a 3.65 ERA. He's held eight of his 10 July and August opponents to two runs or less. The Twins' bullpen is far more reliable right now than Boston's relievers. Wacha has 4.43 career ERA in four starts against Minnesota.
So at this price, I'll hop on board the Twins' five-game home win streak.Comment

Boston surprised most by going 92-70 in 2021 and made it to the ALCS before losing 4-2 to the Astros. Here in 2022, the Red Sox were 11 games over .500 through June 26 (42-31) but the team is only 20-37(.351), after losing 4-2 at Minnesota on Monday and 10-5 on Tuesday. That leaves them 62-68 on the season, NINE games behind the third wild card spot, with THREE teams between them and that final playoff spot. The Minnesota Twins went just 73-89 in 2021 (20 games behind the division-winning White Sox), after winning the AL Central in 2019 and 2020. The Twins were having a nice bounce-back 2022 season, owning a 5 1/2-game lead in the American League Central on May 24. However, that division lead has turned into a 1 1/2-game deficit in the AL Central behind Cleveland. The Twins are also THREE games behind the final AL wild card spot. However, the Twins look for the series sweep tonight having won FIVE in a row.
Tonight's starting pitchers are Michael Wacha (9-1, 2.53 ERA) for Boston and Joe Ryan (10-6, 3.65 ERA) for Minnesota. Wacha made a big 'SPLASH' for the Cards back in 2013 as a rookie and then went 17-7 in 2015. However, from 2016-2021 he had gone just 37-34, while battling injuries. Wacha has had a bounce-back season so far in 2022 but just returned August 14, after missing two months because of right-shoulder inflammation. He enters this game 6-0 with a 2.61 ERA over his last eight starts, with Boston going 6-2. Ryan is a rookie and along with his team-best 10 wins and acceptable 3.65 ERA, he owns a 1.11 WHIP and BAA of .217.
I had Minnesota in Monday's win and played over nine in last night's 10-5 final. That said, Wacha's worth a small play here at this price.

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Wednesday was with the New York Yankees with the money-line versus the Los Angeles Angels listing both starting pitchers Gerrit Cole and Patrick Sandoval. New York (79-51) ended a three-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory on the road against the Angels last night. The Yankees midsummer swoon does appear to be ending as they have won six of their last nine games — and they have won 48 of their last 71 games after winning their last contest. New York has also won 31 of their last 46 games against teams with a losing record. Los Angeles (56-74) was on a four-game losing streak before last night’s loss — they have now lost 4 of their last 5 games at home. The Angels have lost 16 of their last 21 games against teams winning at least 60% of their games. Take the New York Yankees with the money-line listing both starting pitchers.
