            9/25 01:25 PM PT / 4:25 PM ET

NFL (485) LOS ANGELES RAMS VS (486) ARIZONA CARDINALS

            Take: (485) LOS ANGELES RAMS

Reason: Rams had to hold on to beat the Falcons last week, 31-27. The final score was closer than what the game actually was though. LA had 337 yards to just 261 yards by Atlanta. Both teams had three turnovers. The Rams could manage just 65 total rushing yards. Arizona had the miraculous comeback at Vegas last week. After trailing 0-20 at half, the Cardinals rallied for 29 second half points including a pair of late TD's and a pair of 2-point conversions to tie and force OT. Then a Raiders fumble by Hunter Renfro in OT was picked up and ran back for the scoop and score by the Cardinals to shock the Raiders. The Rams have owned this series the last five years, covering nine of 11 with one push. Arizona is just 2-6 ATS their last eight games and 0-6 ATS in their last six home games. The Rams have covered the last seven in Arizona. And, the road team is 11-4-1 ATS the last 16 in this series. Your free lay is on the Rams.

RACE 5: RIPE FOR MISCHIEF (#3)

If I’m going to take anyone from that Aug. 27 affair at Saratoga, I want it to be horses that were forwardly placed, as that race completely fell apart. Kreesa (#6) and Empire Sky (#5) both closed to get into the trifecta and are sure to take money off those performances. However, they each benefited from the hot early pace and I’m not sure how much running either one actually did. Kreesa is probably more appealing given his obvious upside as a second time starter, but he’s also going to be the shortest price. I prefer Ripe for Mischief (#3) from that race. He got a strange trip, as he was ridden hard to challenge the leader early before backing off on the turn. He then came again at the end and lost his path right at the wire, though that late trouble didn’t significantly alter the result. This horse interests me because he also ran better than it appears in his prior starts. Three back he set a very fast pace that fell apart and last time he got a wide trip chasing another quick pace. However, I do also want to look beyond those exiting that Travers day maiden event and consider a couple of new faces. My Slick Nick (#2) might be placed too ambitiously on the class rise, but I’ve been waiting for him to try the turf. His dam was strictly a turf horse and he looks like one that should move up on this surface. He also has the speed to be forwardly placed in a race that doesn’t feature that much pace. The other interesting runner is Racey Type (#10), who also tries turf for the first time while switching into the Asmussen barn. He’s by good turf influence Freud, and is a half to one decent turf horse.

                RACE 6: TRIPLE START (#3)

There is some guesswork to be done in this two-year-old maiden special weight event. Chad Brown has entered a pair of first time starters, of which Palace Gate (#9) seems like the preferred one with Irad Ortiz named to ride. However, this son of Justify doesn’t possess much turf pedigree. His dam won the Delaware Oaks and was best on dirt. Kaw Liga (#8) has the better pedigree for grass as a half-brother to turf stakes winner Cavalry Charge. He was a $600k purchase for Peter Brant and appears to be spotted appropriately. However, I’m more interested in those with experience. Conversing (#12)would obviously be dangerous if he were to draw into the field. He did save ground in his debut at a time when the rail was the place to be, but he still ran on well in the late stages despite racing greenly though the stretch. I think he has upside, though a wide post wouldn’t be ideal if he gets in. Determinedly (#10) drops back into maiden company after trying a stakes last time. However, I was expecting a better effort from him that day. It wasn’t the strongest race for the level and he just lacked late punch. He did have some trouble two back, but he also had the pace in his favor that day. I’m going in a different direction with first time turfer Triple Start (#3). This son of American Pharoah was meant for turf on debut, but stayed in once the race was rained onto the dirt. He put in a game effort to challenge the winner a couple of times before fading in the stretch. He strikes me as one that should improve on turf given his pedigree. Though he is a half-brother to Persistently, a Grade 1 winner on dirt, his second dam Heavenly Prize proved to be a strong turf influence as a broodmare. He’s also a half-brother to Double Jackpot, who has been a good turf producer as a broodmare. I liked the one grass workout that I saw up in Saratoga, and think he can step forward in his second start.

                RACE 8: THISMIGHTBETHEONE (#3)

Kelly Breen sends out a couple of fillies making their first starts off the claim, both exiting strong barns and coming off last-out victories. Train to Artemus (#8) exits the stronger performance, having run a field off its feet last time en route to a 3-length score. However, the margin would have been closer if the runner-up hadn’t blown the start that day.Crowding Out (#10) might be a little more reliable off her last performance, though she was facing a weak field that day and inexplicably failed to show up two back. I ultimately wanted to look for some alternatives. Abuse of Power (#2) makes sense as she takes her second crack at this condition. She ran fine first off the claim for Horacio De Paz last time when perhaps used a bit too much early in the race. She earned a strong speed figure for her victory two back and will be tough with a repeat of that performance. My top pick exits the same race, but finished farther back. Thismightbetheone (#3) looks a little light on the speed figure scale coming into this, but she’s in better form than it appears. She rode the rail in her May 14 performance at a time when you didn’t really want to be inside on the inner turf course at Belmont. Then two back she clipped heels, losing all chance early in the race. And last time out she found herself so far back early due to a bad stumble at the start before making a decent late run. I think she’s dangerous if Prat can finally work out a trip for her.

Sunday Seoul & Busan: Race-By-Race Preview (September 25)

Plenty of action at both Seoul (11 races from 10:45 to 18:00) and at Busan (6 races from 12:15 to 16:40) on Sunday. Double Classic winner Hit Yegam goes at Busan while Complete Value, last year’s champion juvenile and one of the main players in this year’s Triple Crown series, lines up at Seoul. Both are looking to get back into form. Here are the previews:

                  Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juvenile maidens to open proceedings with just two of the twelve racing for the first time but al of them tackling the distance for the first time. (7) GIANT INDY ran 4th on debut over 1000M on August 21st, having got well back from a wide draw before working home very nicely. The draw is a touch more favourable today. the extra furlong can suit, and he can win. (4) RAON AMERICAN has raced twice before and improved in the second of those to beat three of today’s rivals at 1000M on August 21st. From a nice draw, he can be on pace here and should go close. (3) SINUI BANJEON also improved at start number two, coming from off the pace to run 2nd. She is another who may appreciate the additional distance today and rates as a big chance. (2) JAEWOO SIDAE and (12) THUNDER BRAVO others in the hunt.
Selections (7) Giant Indy (4) Raon American (3) Sinui Banjeon (2) Jaewoo Sidae
                  Next Best 12, 5
                  Fast Start 2, 4, 9, 12

                  Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

After an indifferent debut, (7) DAECHEON BEAUTY has raced well in his subsequent four outings and comes in here ready to win. He has the fastest time of these at the distance by a wide margin and can race handy or from behind. He should make the breakthrough. As for the next best, it’s hard to look past (9) WONDERFUL MUSKET. True he had a howler two starts back but otherwise his recent form reads better than any except the favourite with a 3rd and a 4th among his latest three. He can get a bit far back but should run on to a place. (8) SPEAR QUEEN ran 2nd at this distance two starts ago before resuming normal service and beating just two home on her re-appearance. That 2nd though is enough for her to be in the money frame in this company. (4) BARAMSAL and (1) GEOSEON GANGJA others to consider.
Selections (7) Daecheon Beauty (9) Wonderful Musket (8) Spear Queen (4) Baramsal

                  Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

More maidens here with nine of the eleven fillies. There are two standouts. (9) HANGANG DOLPUNG has been consistent across his five starts so far which include three top four finishes and some good times at this distance. Last time out he sat to the front of midfield before running on for 4th ahead of a couple of today’s rivals, and he has solid chances here. (3) SURE WIN will probably start as the favourite. After running close a close 2nd and 5th in two goes at 1000M, she then got a bit far back before running on for 5th on her first try at this distance on August 27th. She is nicely weighted, draws well, and has every chance. (6) P N S THE KING was 5th behind Hangang Dolpung two starts back before running a solid 3rd over 1400M three weeks ago. An apprentice claims 4kg and that should bring him right into contention. (10) GUK HYANG and (5) NEOREUL EUNGWONHAE among others in the frame.
                  Selections (9) Hangang Dolpung (3) Sure Win (6) P N S The King (10) Guk Hyang

                  Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

Having impressed behind Captain Yankee in a trial, (3) HONOR CAL was well backed on debut on August 7th. He was on pace for much of that race before ultimately weakening to 7th of eleven. He should have come on for that though and can be given another chance here. (11) SIMON TOP GUN comes in off back-to-back 3rd place finishes, her best to date. She doesn’t get the best of the draw here, but the same apprentice jockey keeps the weight light again and she can place again. (7) PATRIOT returns to action a full fifty-three weeks after his debut last September. He ran well for 5th in that solitary start and looked well when running 2nd in a fair time in an August trial. He will obviously need this, but he couldn’t have picked a more winnable race to return in. (5) PUNGAN JOHWA and (4) TAKE ADELE others who could potentially compete for the minor money.
Selections (3) Honor Cal (11) Simon Top Gun (7) Patriot (5) Pungan Johwa

                  Seoul Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

Competitive race. We’ll go with (7) HANGANG HERO who enters with good results from her latest three, including a runner-up finish from her latest three starts. She led for part of the way around last time out on September 3rd, before ultimately finishing 3rd and can be on pace and in this a long way again. (5) ECHO ZONE will probably start as favourite. He comes in following a 2dn and a 3rd from his latest two and has posted the fastest time of any of these for the distance. From a good draw, he should be on pace and may be hard to hold out. (8) PERFECT TIME and (1) QUIET CHARM came home 3rd and 4th when they raced each other over 1400M on August 27th. Both should be competitive again and Quiet Charm comes into a much better gate this time around. (11) BEST BIG BANG another in the placing frame.
Selections (7) Hangang Hero (5) Echo Zone (8) Perfect Time (1) Quiet Charm

                  Busan Race 2: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Fillies only here and it’s hard to go past (7) DOCTOR OSCAR. An emphatic winner at class 6 level over 1000M in July, she then ran an on-pace 3rd on her first try at this class and distance on August 28th. She comes up just 1.5kg on that and should be leading from gate to wire. (9) TWO OF US was a good winner over this distance in June and while she could only manage 6th of eleven when favourite for her first try at this class over 1300M at the end of July, the margins weren’t huge, and she is worth another chance to get closer today. (1) AGAIN TOUCH returns to action for the first time since January but she comes into contention by virtue of having made all to win a trial in a good time just last week. So long as she didn’t leave her race there, she has a real chance of a bold showing. (3) BAEK GU and the up in class following a maiden win (5) LOUD COLOR are others to take into account.
Selections (7) Doctor Oscar (9) Two Of Us (1) Again Touch (3) Baek Gu

                  Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

It might have taken nineteen goes for him to get his maiden win but (6) GO GO STAR enters with her recent form looking very good. She made all at class and distance in that race two starts back and followed up with a solid 4th on her latest on August 13th. She remains nicely in at the weights, draws well and has a faster time for the distance than any of her rivals. (9) P N S LOOK was a good winner on debut over 1000M in July but only beat a couple home on her first go at this class and distance on August 28th. She should have benefitted for the experience and can go better today. (5) NEW STAR YEONGCHEON races for the first time since June, which in turn was his first appearance since February. He draws well to be on pace and has claims here. (11) INVICTUS and (10) RAON THE PEARL among others to consider.
                  Selections (6) Go Go Star (9) P N S Look (5) New Star Yeongcheon (11) Invictus
                  Next Best 10, 7

                  Busan Race 3: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

                  (11) GREAT CAPTAIN has four top-three finishes from six starts so far and while he races for the first time since a runner-up finish at this class over 1400M in June, he looked very well when winning a trial on September 3rd. He is up 4kg on his last start, but he has winning chances here. (12) NOBLE COWBOY won at this distance at class 6 level and comes in off two positive showings for 4th places. He is capable of settling back and running on so the wide draw shouldn’t be a problem. (6) SMARTY DOLPUNG will be on pace. He beat a few of these when 2nd at class and distance two starts back and can be in this a long way too. The up in class (7) TOTAL ECLIPSE, a good winner at this distance at the end of August, and (8) QUEEN’S DAERO, who beat Smarty Dolpung last time out, are among plenty of others with place hopes.
Selections (11) Great Captain (12) Noble Cowboy (6) Smarty Dolpung (7) Total Eclipse
                  Next Best 8, 3

                  Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

In her past few outings, (6) GREENBACK has been working back toward another win and it could come here. She has been consistently running good times over 1200M and steps up slightly in trip with solid claims to get the job done today. (7) NAOL SNIPER is the main danger He comes up in class and distance following a maiden win over 1000M at start number three on August 28th when he made all. He comes down slightly in the weights and should be on or close to the pace again. (2) B.J. STORM ran an improved 4th in a fast race at class and distance on August 14th, leading for much of the way and he can go well again for the persistently in form Riccardi stable. (11) STAR CRAZY and (12) RAON THE WEEKEND others in the frame.
                  Selections (6) Greenback (7) Naol Sniper (2) B.J. Storm (11) Star Crazy
                  Next Best 12, 4
                  Fast Start 7, 8, 11, 12

                  Busan Race 4: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

                  (8) MAHAMERU comes up in class following a victory over this distance on August 28th when she quickly found the lead, despite drawing gate twelve, and didn’t look back, winning by as many as she pleased. That was her second win in her last three starts meaning she is rapidly up in class, but she should measure up in this company and can win again. (4) UNJU BULPAE ran fairly for a midfield finish last start on his first effort at this class. He is nicely weighted and drawn here and can be a danger. (7) YONGGARI was a good winner over 1400M at class 4 level on August 6th but struggled a little last time out from a wide draw. Under today’s handicap conditions he comes down in the weights, draws a bit better and can get much closer. (11) EUNSEONG YEONGUNG and (12) STAR CATCH are others who should be competitive.
Selections (8) Mahameru (4) Unju Bulpae (7) Yonggari (11) Eunseong Yeongung
                  Next Best 12, 6

                  Seoul Race 7: Class 5 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

                  (9) LUNAR SILVER was considered good enough to have a tilt at the final leg of the filly Triple Crown, where she finished 6th of ten. Since returning to shallower waters, she has a 2nd and a 4th from two attempts, both over 1700M and both times finishing ahead of at least one of today’s rivals. The one concern is the draw as it is very hard for horses drawn wide to get a decent position on the short run to the first corner but she has plenty of early speed so she may be the one to break the pattern. (7) KING HONOR draws a little a bit better. He is up in class after an all the way score over 1400M and the additional furlong shouldn’t pose a problem. (5) BLUE INDY comes back in trip after a good 4th from gate 10 over 1700M. He can be competitive here too. (3) TRIPLE JOY and (1) BLUE CHARM others in the hunt.
Selections (9) Lunar Silver (7) King Honor (5) Blue Indy (3) Triple Joy
                  Next Best 1, 2

                  Busan Race 5: Class 4 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Competitive race. (1) YASAENGHWA was a beaten favourite last start on September 2nd when leading into the final furlong but ultimately running 4th over a mile on her first try at this class. She has won at the mile before and steps up to this distance for the first time well weighted and well-drawn to be very competitive. The main danger is (7) HANEUL JEONSA. He has won his latest two with the most recent having been at this class over a mile on August 19th. He comes up 4kg in the weights because of that and is also trying two-turns for the first time, but he can settle back and run on, and he has solid claims. (6) GREAT DANCE was a front-running class and distance winner at odds of 10/1 on August 28th and while he has his fair share of weight, warrants respect here too. (5) ACE JACKPOT, who beat Yasaenghwa in that September 2nd race, and (3) WONDERFUL WORLD, the latter another last start class and distance winner are others who can enter the calculations.
Selections (1) Yasaenghwa (7) Haneul Jeonsa (6) Great Dance (5) Ace Jackpot

                  Seoul Race 8: Class 3 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

                  (1) WILD SOCKS won three races in a row in June and July at 1200M and 1400M to get rapidly promoted to this class, before running a strong 4th in the MJC Trophy on International weekend three weeks ago at 1200M. He carries a nice light weight here, draws well and is the one they need to beat. There are plenty of other prolific winners. (6) RAON THE JET has won four of six and comes up in class having made all the running over 1200M last time out. He comes up in trip today but has had a couple of months off and can measure up here. So too (3) YELLOW CAT, whose last start win was also back in July but in her case was over today’s distance when settling handy and proving too strong. (11) GLOBAL YEONGUNG ran 2nd to Wild Socks back at the end of July but joins him up in class. He comes down a full 6kg in the weights and won’t mind the wide draw as he likes to settle back and run on. He is not without a chance. Prolific placer (8) SINUI ADEUL is another who can compete for the minors.
Selections (1) Wild Socks (6) Raon The Jet (3) Yellow Cat (11) Global Yeongung

                  Busan Race 6: Class 1 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 110 Million

Can (8) HIT YEGAM return to form? He bested Winner’s Man in two legs of the Triple Crown last year but hasn’t quite been able to kick on as a four-year-old. That’s not to say his results have been bad as he has been running in top class company. This isn’t easy either, but he looks nicely in here and he can go to the front and try to lead all the way. (3) MACH TITAN will be aiming to do the same thing. He beat a fair few of these when winning at class and distance in a super time back in June before racking up back-to-back runner-up finishes around two turns. He caries 5kg more than in that June victory but draws well and may start favourite. (2) YES PERFECT comes in off the back of two very quick wins over 1200M. He comes up in the weights and 1400M may not be as much in his favour, but he can be competitive again. (9) SSONSAL, runner-up to Mach Titan last time, and (1) BARBARIAN, who draws a much better gate than in his latest two defeats, others in the frame.
Selections (8) Hit Yegam (3) Mach Titan (2) Yes Perfect (9) Ssonsal

A small field but a very competitive one. We’ll take a chance on (8) ICE STAR who comes back to this trip for the first time since winning at it at class 5 level back in May. He has since run well for 2nd over 1400M and 5th of nine at 1700M and with an apprentice engaged, comes down a full 4kg in the weights here. He doesn’t need to lead so drawn outside shouldn’t be an issue and this could be his day. (3) DAEMUL was an also-ran in the Korean Derby but comes up class following a good win over 1200M on August 20th when handy throughout. He has won at the distance before and is well weighted and well-drawn. Up rapidly in class is (7) CHOEGO BLACK following back-to-back wins when settling back and running on. This is tougher but he can be competitive. Better drawn than last time is (1) COLJOY, and he along with (5) HWA SSI BYEOK are other contenders. Very few without a chance here.

                  (2) SARYEONI FIRST comes in having won over class and distance when handy throughout on August 21st. He had previously shown his versatility and his quality by overcoming wide draws to run on for very good 7th and 4th placed finishes in the Korean Derby and Minister’s Cup. He does give weight away here, but he can win again. (4) ORAE HAMKKEHAJA comes up in class after an all the way score over 1700M on August 27th. Like Saryeoni First, he looks destined for a higher level than this and he can be competitive. (11) VIKING HEART beat Orae Hamkkehaja when they came home 1st and 3rd over 1700M at class 5 level at the end of July. He races for the first time since and can also measure up, especially under the light weight. (7) BIG YAK has finally found some form and could maintain his run with another money finish. (3) CONCORDE SPURT another in the hunt.
Selections (2) Saryeoni First (4) Orae Hamkkehaja (11) Viking Heart (7) Big Yak

It’s time for (1) COMPLETE VALUE to return to the winner’s circle. A perfect five from five last term saw him to the Champion Juvenile title but he is yet to open his account as a three-year-old, placing 2nd in the Cup Mile, 6th in the Derby and 3rd in the Minister’s Cup. This isn’t easy but he should have the beating of this average class 2 field. (7) JANGSAN POISON is up in class following a good win over this distance on August 28th when handy to the lead throughout. He is ultra-consistent and looks class 1 bound sooner rather than later. (11) HIDDEN SOCKS ran out a good winner at this class over a mile on August 27th. An apprentice aboard today means he carries the same weight, and his style means he doesn’t need to lead. (8) BEST TAP and (4) NORTHERN TIME others in the frame.

It’s time for another great Sunday of racing! For the free pick 4, we will head to Belmont at the Big A for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Churchill Downs and Remington Park for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. Let’s GO!

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Belmont at the Big A:

Belmont at the Big A September 25, 2022

                    Race 7: Starter Allowance

#11 Endowed was second last time out at this level going longer and should like the cut back in distance today. He usually shows up with a solid effort over the dirt. #8 Luni Sima was second last time out as well at this level going 7-furlongs at Saratoga.

                    Race 8: Starter Allowance
                    freestar

#8 Train to Artemus goes for three straight victories today after winning at the claiming level twice at Saratoga. She must move up in class today, while running for Breen for the first time. #2 Abuse of Power was a neck away from winning at this level last time out at Saratoga.

Race 9: Gallant Bloom Stakes (G2)

#5 Kimari goes for two straight stakes victories today after a solid win in the Honorable Miss last time out at Saratoga. She looks like she might be back to her top form. #1 Lady Rocket will try to take this field gate to wire today; however, she has been inconsistent this season.

                    Race 10: Allowance

#6 Myriskyaffair has hit the board in all three of her starts over the turf course, including finishing second in a grade 2 stakes event two starts back. #8 Blue Times runs second off of the layoff today, which should lead to an improved effort. She was third at this level last time out.

A massive weekend of punting and sport comes to an end when racing head to Sandown on Sunday afternoon for a nine-race program. The Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) headlines the program, whilst the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) and Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1300m) shape as a perfect undercard. The Sandown track has come up a Soft 6, whilst the rail returns to the true position for the meeting getting underway at 1pm AEST.

We do not need to wait too long on Sunday for one of our better bets at Sandown, when the Nick Ryan-trained Cap De Joie steps out in the opening event. Since making her debut in Australia, she has been dominant in two starts at Bendigo where on both occasions she gave her rivals a start and a beating. She draws out wide in barrier 20 on Sunday, but that will be no hinderance to her winning chances as she settles back in the field and will look to launch down the heart of the track. This is Cap De Joie’s hardest test to date, but visually her two prior victories suggest she is more than capable of making the step up in grade. We are getting $3.40 with some online betting sites purely because of the barrier, but Cap De Joie looks to be a filly on the way up.

Races do not come much tougher than the second on Sunday where online Bookmakers have it set as $6 the field. Field Of Roses looks to present great value having been beaten by a narrow margin to the progressive The Garden on September 14, with this Gavin Bedggood gelding putting 3.5 lengths on his rival back in third. From barrier 11, Craig Williams will need to be aggressive early to have this guy settled in the one-one or outside the leader. If afforded that luxury, he should gain a perfect tow into the race and when asked for an effort Field Of Roses will look to pinch this.

                      Race 3: BM78 Handicap (1800m)

We were with the Gavin Bedggood-trained Global Gift at Caulfield on September 17 when the six-year-old gelding gave his rivals something to chase, before being ultimately gunned down inside the final 100m. Having shot clear to a five-length lead down the back straight of ‘The Heath’ the Invincible Spirit gelding was always going to be vulnerable late and ultimately found one better in the end who gained a cosy run in transit. He still put 2.5 lengths on Gone West back in third, so we expect the step back to 1800m with senior jockey Craig Williams o board to be the tonic for success. He will be prominent throughout and if Global Gift is anywhere near his best, he looks the one to beat in this.

                      Race 4: 3YO C&G Handicap (1400m)

Having closed with intent behind the smart Waltz On By, the Richard Laming-trained Bank Maur looks well placed as he steps up to the 1400m. Despite the eventual winner gaining a perfect run in transit, this three-year-old colt was forced to settle at the rear of the field before flashing home late to suggest he was one to follow as he steps up in trip. He has a win to his name over the smart Quang Tri when on debut and this looks to be a key chance to bring up his second win. Despite drawing barrier three, look for Jye McNeil to have this bloke settled in the second half of the field where he can have him building through the gears. He’ll get the race run to his liking and with a strong turn of foot, we expect Bank Maur will prove too hard to hold out.

                      Race 5: Handicap (1700m)

Despite disappointing first-up in the Listed Sofitel, we expect the Mike Moroney-trained Bermadez to bounce back in emphatic fashion at Sandown. The six-year-old gelding was forced to travel three wide with no cover back in the field on that day and on the back of the tough run never came on in the home straight. He steps back in grade on Sunday which will suit him ideally and with a win and a minor placing to his name second-up, he is sure to handle the occasion with great aplomb. He has had one start at 1700m for one victory and there looks to be no reason why he cannot build on that record in this. From barrier 13, look for Damien Oliver to have him settled midfield with cover. As long as he does not get trapped wide again, Bermadez looks a great bet in this Handicap event.

The Jim Moloney Stakes is set to open the quaddie on Sunday and having been desperately unlucky in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes at Flemington, Typhoon Titmus is sure to take a power of beating. The three-year-old filly from the Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock yard should have finished closer than the one-length she did, having been held up for a run at a crucial point when building through the gears. Once clear, she deadset flew home and suggested she is more than up to this level. From barrier eight and the big surrounds of the Hillside track, Damien Oliver will look to have the Headwater filly in clear air and if he does, Typhoon Titmus has the turn of foot to obliterate her rivals in the Jim Moloney.

All Star Mile winner Zaaki headlines the field for the 2022 Underwood Stakes, with last start Makybe Diva Stakes winner I’m Thunderstruck looking to claim the scalp of Zaaki. The field might be small in size, but the six-horse field that has assembled for Saturday’s Group 1 is one that packs plenty of class and talent.

                      Race 8: Sandown Stakes (1500m)

Having been a late scratching in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Sinawann is set to go around in the Sandown Stakes and looks to present great value. We were with him in the Group 1 last week, so the fact he steps back to Group 3 level against similar rivals (if not a touch easier), this son of Kingman jumps off the paper in our paper. He always improves with run under his belt, so his first-up sixth in the Regal Roller can be basically ignored. With three wins from five second-up starts, this bloke is sure to fire on Sunday. His tendency to be a backmarker offsets his draw in barrier 11 and with the likes of Gentleman Roy, Lightsaber, Age Of Chivalry and Military Expert all looking to set the speed, the race looks perfectly setup for Sinawann to flash home late and blouse his rivals.

The final race of the day sees our best bet I Wish I Win go around in the Testa Rossa Stakes and outside of Ayrton, this race is his to lose. The four-year-old gelding deadset smashed his rivals on local debut at Caulfield on August 27 when putting four-lengths on the smart Gentleman Roy. Instantly, he was favourite for the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes before ultimately missing a spot in the final field as second emergency. He now heads to Sandown, a track which he is sure to appreciate and despite the drop back to 1300m, he looks to be a class above most of these. He’ll be at the back of the field upon settling, but armed with a devastating turn of foot, I Wish I Win should be putting a gap on most of his rivals, with Ayrton seemingly the only danger.

Bathurst Cup Top Tip – Deel With Me

As one of the qualifiers for the inaugural $2,000,000 Big Dance at Royal Randwick on November 1 over 1600m, this year’s Bathurst Cup will feature one of the strongest fields we have seen. The Bjorn Baker-trained Deel With Me will be our top tip to take out the $50,000 Bathurst Cup, punching his ticket into the Big Dance in just over a months’ time. This five-year-old son of Dundeel will appreciate the cut out of the ground, with all three of his wins coming on soft or heavy tracks. With more rain expected before and on raceday, the current Heavy 8 rating or worse will suit this guy more and more. Now that he is fourth-up with one run at 1800m under his belt, this guy should be very fit and very tough to beat.

Best Bet at Bathurst – Wandjina Spirit

Our best bet on the card comes up nice and early in race one where we are with the David Smith-trained Wandjina Spirit. This lightly raced five-year-old mare will be looking to continue to improve and go one better than her previous start and break her maiden at start number three. This daughter of Wandjina has had two starts on heavy tracks for two minor placings showing that a wet track will be no negative at all. Winona Costin sticks with this girl for her third-up run and if she can be on the pace or just in behind the leaders, we should be starting our day off on the right foot with an early winner.

Best Value at Bathurst – Petain

The Bob Howe-trained Petain will be lining up for start number 81 today when he takes his place in a Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1200m. This eight-year-old veteran has been a great money spinner for connections recording eight wins and 25 minor placings over his long career. After recording back-to-back wins over the last two starts, we believe that he can make it three from three here, as he finds another heavy track, where he has recorded two wins and two minor placings from six starts. Anthony Cavallo will be jumping aboard this son of Commands for the 57th time and from barrier six this guy should land around midfield and be letting down in the straight to have the last crack at them late.

Alice Springs Turf Club will host a six-race card on Sunday, September 25. Northern Territory specialist David White brings you his race-by-race betting preview along with free tips and the best odds available. First race is set to commence 2:23pm local time.
                          Race 1 (2.23pm) – $18,375 Red Centre Technology Partners 0-58 Handicap (1200m)

Captain Bridges could not have been more impressive on his Alice Springs debut when he overcame the opposition by almost five lengths over 1100m (0-58) on September 11. Only has to repeat that performance and the 6YO gelding will make it back to back wins at Pioneer Park. Captain Bridges, who was highly competitive in three starts during the Darwin Cup Carnival last year without registering a win, brought respectable form to town from Port Augusta and surprisingly his first up win in the Red Centre was just his second in 25 career starts. Brat’s form has been erratic, but he was a last start winner over 1200m (Class 2) a fortnight ago. Kenneth hasn’t won a race since April last year, but it’s hard to fault his recent form and he was a last second behind Captain Bridges two weeks ago. Speed Wheel, Rhythmical, Harbour Express, Lisa and Bean Shoppin’ are by no means out of it in what should be an interesting race.
                          Best Bet

                          Race 1 – #1 Captain Bridges (4)

                          6yo Gelding | T: Greg Connor | J: Jessie Philpot (59.5kg)

                          $2.80 with Bet365
                          Race 3 (3.26pm) – $20,475 Indervon Petroleum 0-70 Handicap (1000m)

Vega Prince is having his first Pioneer Park start and although winless he wasn’t all that far away in his NSW races. The 4YO gelding debuted at Canterbury in February last year where he finished sixth in an 1100m maiden. Vega Prince had a long break before returning to action in November where he finished ninth in a 1400m maiden at Rosehill before a fourth in a 1400m maiden at Randwick’s Kensington course and a fourth in a 1550m maiden at Canterbury in December. Vega Prince then finished third in a 1600m maiden at Nowra on New Year’s Eve before finishing unplaced in two maidens at Goulburn (1300m) and Hawkesbury (1400m) in June. Bold Tropic and Abreha are the biggest threats, but they will have to be at their very best. Bold Tropic was third in 1200m maiden on August 6, while Abreha finished second in a 1400m maiden on August 26. Benzagain, Counterinteligence and Inca Song are definitely clear outsiders.

                          Race 2 – #3 Vega Prince (8)

                          4yo Gelding | T: Lisa Whittle | J: Paul Denton (57.5kg)

                          $1.60 with Bet365
                          Race 3 (3.47pm) – $21,525 Vale Harry Lambley Benchmark 76 Handicap (1200m)

Liberty Blue, the horse that finished second on seven occasions in the Red Centre, has his 15th start at Pioneer Park and is aiming for a fourth straight win. The 8YO gelding, who is in the midst of a third campaign in the Alice, has had 54 career starts for just five wins. Winning in SA has proven just as tricky as Liberty Blue finished second eight times. In three starts since returning to the NT in July, he finished second over 1100m (BM54), third over 1000m (0-58) and second over 1200m (BM54) before a win over 1100m (Class 2). That was followed by wins over 1200m (BM66) in August and over 1200m (0-64) two weeks ago. Has yet to win over 1000m. Harpuna is a handy commodity and returns after a last start sixth over 1200m (0-70) in Darwin on August 1. White Kaps is racing well and must be respected over 1000m. Kummerlings and Intercontinental have won two of their past four starts and both are capable of winning.

                          Race 4 (4.05pm) – $18,375 Enjoy Retirement Doon Buggy Benchmark 54 Handicap (1400m)

Winter Harbour ended a drought that stretched back to December when he was a last start winner over 1600m (0-64) on September 11. The 6YO gelding was always a chance after a fourth over 1600m (BM76) on August 6 before a second over 1400m (0-70) on August 20. After just three wins from 24 starts in SA, Winter Harbour debuted at Pioneer Park on April 16 and finished 11th over 1100m (0-62). In his next six starts he could only manage a third over 1400m (BM54), but since his birthday he has found that spark. Travanti has done little wrong since April, but the 1400m is a query. Qualis can make a serious impact, but it’s hard to ignore his inconsistency. Chopsticks has the class, but was a last start sixth over 1200m (0-64) two weeks ago after a nine month break. Rockford Files will get the trip and could pull off a surprise. Can the retiring Doon Buggy defy the odds and claim victory in the race named in his honour?

                          Race 4 – #3 Winter Harbour (1)

                          Race 5 (4.35pm) – $23,100 Ladbrokes Split Multi Handicap (1400m)

Bar Gem was a certainty beaten last start after missing the start quite comprehensively before rattling home to finish third by the narrowest of margins behind Sedona over 1200m (BM76) on September 11. The 7YO gelding has an outstanding record in the Red Centre for seven wins, three seconds and three thirds in 14 starts – the only time he failed was over 1400m in open company on Alice Springs Cup Day on May 1 when he finished fifth. Bar Gem drops 3.5kg for the race and his record over 1400m stands at 9-2-2-2, so he is well and truly in the mix if he gets off to a good start. The highly-credentialed That’s Justified (62.5kg) is spotting his rivals 6kg, but he has a great record over 1400m at Pioneer Park (13-6-4-2) and his last win over the trip was against open company on April 9. Roughly won two straight before finishing second behind Bar Gem on August 20 (1200m) and wasn’t all that far away in a blanket finish when fourth behind Sedona (1200m) two weeks ago. The 10YO mare has never raced over 1400m. Exonerate should edge out Just Hang Up and Debbonaire Boy when it comes to settling on your first four.

                          Race 6 (5.05pm) – $18,375 Yeperenye Shopping Centre Benchmark 54 Handicap (1400m)

King Crab had 13 starts for one win in 2021, but he was placed six times. The 7YO gelding had four runs in March and April without firing a shot, but after a four month break he returned to finish second over 1200m (0-64) on August 20 before a last start second over 1600m (0-64) on September 11. King Crab will lump an extra 2kg, but based on his previous effort he will more than likely start as favourite. Sweet As Scandi has had six starts in the Red Centre since arriving from Victoria and in three appearances over 1400m he has finished first (0-58) on April 23, eighth (0-64) on June 19 and third (Class 2) on July 24. He was a last start second over 1200m (BM54) on August 26. Mi Mijo is not out of the equation and was a last start third over 1200m (Class 2) two weeks ago after winning his first race on August 26 in a 1400m maiden. Boy Big and Hard Work Rewards can certainly feature, but the 1400m might just catch them out.

It might only be a field of six going around in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Sandown on Sunday, but it is a field that oozes quality in every way. An impressive 10 Group 1 wins are littered between the runners, so it is sure to be a stunning spectacle.

Having claimed this race 12 months ago, the Annabel Neasham-trained Zaaki ($2.60) heads the market with online Bookmakers, while last-start Makybe Diva Stakes winner I’m Thunderstruck ($3.20) sits on the second line of betting. Mr Brightside ($4.80) and Alligator Blood ($7) simply cannot be ruled out, while Mo’unga ($21) and Nonconformist ($81) will be looking to spoil the party in Sunday’s Group 1.

In the small field, tactics will be of utmost importance. Zaaki and I’m Alligator Blood will look to take up the running with Mr Brightside and Nonconformist expected to settled in behind them. I’m Thunderstruck and Mo’unga will be at the rear of the field but will not be far from the pace throughout the 1800m event.

Continue reading for HorseBetting’s top selections and $100 betting strategy for the 2022 Underwood Stakes.

I’m Thunderstruck deadset flew home over the final furlong at Flemington in the Makybe Diva Stakes and managed to grab Alligator Blood on the line to claim victory. The emerging superstar from the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr looks like he will appreciate every bit of the extra 200m he gains on Sunday and considering he beat half of his rivals last time out, there is no reason he cannot replicate that result once again. This will be his first start at 1800m, but what he showed in the Makybe Diva suggests the step up in trip will be no issue. With Zaaki and Alligator Blood set to duke it out for the early supremacy, it should set the race up perfectly for I’m Thunderstruck to build through the gears and when asked for an effort, we expect thunder to strike at Sandown on Sunday afternoon.

Zaaki is the only market fancy who has run and won at 1800m, with only outsider Mo’unga and Nonconformist tasting success further than 1600m. He returned with a smart all-the-way victory in the Tramway Stakes at Randwick on September 3 and with Jamie Kah getting back on board is sure to look the winner at one point or another. The seven-year-old gelding hasn’t always been a punters friend, failing to salute six times in his career as favourite. However, he is the clear star of the field at the moment and if he is anywhere near what he is capable of, Zaaki might just blow his rivals away.

Alligator Blood looked to have the Makybe Diva Stakes sewn up for 1599m of the 1600m, but was nabbed late. Whilst Mr Brightside swept aside his Feehan Stakes rivals at his last start, but this is his hardest test to date. Both of these runners deserve their chance against the likes of Zaaki and I’m Thunderstruck, but will both will need to go to another level to claim victory in the Underwood.
