            # 7 TREVESS 7/2

            # 6 CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY 5/1

I think about SIX FEET APART here. With Jaramillo aboard her, this filly ought to be able to break out early here. This horse has some longshot angles going for her. The extreme drop in company can only help this one this time around. TREVESS - She has been running solidly and the Equibase speed figs are among the strongest in this field. Ran a strong last race. CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY - Krigger and Plesa are a potent pair for dividends. Looks decent for the conditions of this outing today, showing solid figs in dirt sprint races lately.

              # 6 ATILLAS ANGEL 5/2

              # 8 NEW MEXICO LINDY 8/1

              # 1 I WIN LIKA GIRL 6/1

My selection for this race is ATILLAS ANGEL. With Ceballos in the saddle guiding her, this filly should be able to break out early in here. The average class figure alone makes this horse a definite contender. Has to be carefully examined - I like the numbers from the last outing. NEW MEXICO LINDY - I think having Amparan ride this filly is a smart choice. I WIN LIKA GIRL - Recent figs for the jockey - 20 win percent - make this filly stand out in this group of horses in this race. With Fuentes uptop her, this filly will most likely be able to break out sharply in this contest.

                #4 UNBRIDLED POSSE (ML=3/1)
                #1 STREET RULER (ML=7/2)

UNBRIDLED POSSE - This gelding is in nice physical condition. Finished first on September 10th. He must like the track here. He just won over the track after shipping in. I like when a race sets up this way. This gelding has the lone pace to crush this field. Last race at Moosomin at Marquis Downs on September 10th was a big class drop for this animal. Facing similar foes in this event. He should do well this time. That 57 fig this gelding garnered in his last event tells me he's a chief player in today's event. STREET RULER - I think the shorter trip will help this gelding stay the trip. Tourangeau brings this gelding back into a race rather than a workout. He knows his gelding is on top of his game. I like to wager on this angle, a horse coming back off a nice contest within the last month.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #3 BLACK SHADOW (ML=5/1), #2 SHE'S FOR REAL (ML=7/1),

BLACK SHADOW - Last performed on September 17th at Moosomin at Marquis Downs, finishing second. Unlikely to advance off of that try today. Finished second in his most recent race with a disappointing rating. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this group. SHE'S FOR REAL - She showed not much at all in the last affair.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - STREET RULER - Racing pattern would suggest this horse is fit and ready for today's race. Should perform well right here.

                STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Put your money on #4 UNBRIDLED POSSE on the nose if you can get odds of 3/2 or more

                  #1 LORD OF WAR (ML=7/2)
                  #4 SILVER SMOKE (ML=3/1)

LORD OF WAR - Have to give this gelding a shot. Ran a good effort last out within the last month or so. In this race here, this horse has garnered the highest speed fig at the distance, so I have to give him the edge. I think this gelding is coming into top form. Although I sometimes have doubts about a racer who was beaten as the favorite in his last race, this gelding got a solid speed rating and fits well here. This gelding is most certainly on the improve with speed figs of 81, 84, 94 last three out. SILVER SMOKE - This speedball is shortening up today. Should increase his chances. Have to make this gelding a contender; he comes off a sharp effort on September 2nd.

Vulnerable Contenders: #11 REPEAT THE HEAT (ML=4/1), #12 CITY LEGEND (ML=9/2), #7 INFAMOUS COVERT (ML=6/1),

REPEAT THE HEAT - The Brain always warns me to keep away from horses in sprint events that haven't finished in the money in short distance affairs lately. Didn't perform too well last time out of the box. Probably won't make a winning move in today's event. CITY LEGEND - This gelding raced very, very well on August 28th winding up third, but hasn't even visited the track since then. Not really a good sign. INFAMOUS COVERT - Most of the time I need a sprinter to have some recent success in short distance races in order to play him.

                          #13
                          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
                          Picks Notes
#1 Kitchen Fire He has always been good over the local footing and might appreciate getting back in with statebred company here. Recent form is pretty consistent, and he might be able to work out a trip from the fence.
#2 Savage He found a good home at this level when getting back in with similar last time out, and he has now landed two of his three local tries. Should be able to spy the speed in here.
#3 Oldzfourfortytwo He just missed behind Savage when they met last time out, and he should be in a similar spot to that guy as they head into the turn. Wouldn't be a surprise.
Race Summary Three logical players line up from the fence, and Kitchen Fire might offer the best price of the three. He gets back over a surface on which he has won multiple races, and he looks competitive with the one-two finishers from a similar local race last month.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
                          Picks Notes
#3 Spirited Sol He steps up again after a nice score last out, and he might get a beautiful trip while settled just behind a few committed pace players. He needs his very best here, but I think the race flow flatters him.
#6 Hammer Lane He's tough if he brings his best stuff, and he has a right to while dropping out of stakes company here. I do worry that he's going to be overbet while meeting some other pace. Vulnerable late?
#4 Shakin It Up Larry He's probably a bit too cheap to make a serious impact with these, but I do like that he has a little finishing ability, and that could serve him well if a serious battle develops out of the gate.
Race Summary Spirited Sol should land a great trip behind the likely chalk and a couple other pace players, and I'd be thrilled to be sitting here at something like the 6/1 ML offering.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
                          Picks Notes
#2 Starship Belmont Really liked her last time out when she had to settle for second, but her local form is sneaky good, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her land this one at a mid-range price.
#6 Antigone She's a pretty reliable finishing type and should be in a good spot spying the speed, but I can see her getting bet more than she should. Obvious player while meeting the locals for the first time.
#1 Wild Irish She took her time breaking through the maiden ranks, but she turned in a good first effort with winners last out and should get a nice tactical trip while stretching out for the first time.
Race Summary Starship Belmont has stepped up her game locally, and she should be able to find another great spot while sitting just a touch off the pace. Something like her last might do the trick.

                            Picks Notes
#5 FLIMFLAM MAN (8-5) Checks all the boxes to get back in the win column for red-hot Ness barn.
#7 SCOTCH ROCK’S (6-1) Got the jump on deep closers, handled stretch-out in distance with ease.
#3 GUSHING OIL (7-2) First or second the last six times he ran for a claiming price, enters new barn.
Race Summary FLIMFLAM MAN, first or second in 8 of 17 starts, hails from a hot barn, gets class relief and ran second to Laddie Liam, who returned with a runner-up finish in a $12,500 starter allowance. He runs for the cheapest tag of his career and gets the nod to build on a $100,000 bankroll. Play 5-3 and 5-7 exactas.

                            Picks Notes
#7 FRISKY FEELING (9-2) Good fit at this level, proven router at Parx, projects ideal trip.
#5 JULIET’S MUSIC (8-1) Steady, front-end form was disrupted by bumpy starts last out.
#2 CANOOCHE (10-1) Another user on gimmick wagers with late-running style at a price.
Race Summary FRISKY FEELING last won for this barn four months ago and has had some excuses since then. She was slowed by the pace three back, wide and no threat behind short-priced favorites on the turf two back, then broke poorly last out. She gets plenty of pace to rally into and offers good value for a win and place bet.

                            Picks Notes
#6 GOOD SOURCE (3-1) Took money in debut, cruised to command, dug in despite tiring at 5-1/2F.
#5 LINDALOVESGOLD (2-1) Controlled pace, edged away from same rival that Good Source defeated.
#4 SICILIAN GRANDMA (7-2) Claimed out of maiden romp at Saratoga, followed up on turf to no avail.
Race Summary GOOD SOURCE pressed the pace 3-wide on the backstretch, took command while in-hand on the turn and held safe the late-running favorite despite tiring in the final sixteenth. She goes an extra furlong today, but like her chances to repeat with room to move forward off that winning debut.

Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

                              September 26, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

The feature on the Monday night card at Yonkers Raceway rolls in Race 8, an Open Pace with a $39,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                              Race 7

2-Muscle Jack (9/5)-This 4-year-old races about every 3 weeks and is looking for his 6th straight picture. Won 2 in a row versus $75k claimers and then dropped and beat the $50k claimers in 3 consecutive races. This colt was good enough to defeat this kind handily and if in the same race shape will likely win again at a tiny price. Could be left in this class for a few reasons but will string along until form changes.
5-Steuben Hanover (6-1)-Has been cashing checks consistently at this level but not winning. If the chalk is off his game this seems the most likely winner despite the 1-17 record at Yonkers.

                              Race 8

1-None Bettor A (5/2)-Claimed by Alexander, rewarded the new connections with a sharp win and now steps-up to face Open company. Has the gate speed to be forwardly placed and has landed in a spot to win right back.
3-American Dealer N (3-1)-This Toscano entry has won 4 of 13 at YR. Tried to wire the field on 9-12 at the Open Handicap classification and fell short by a neck. Should be a threat if gets a good start and trip, has gate speed but so do some others in this field.
4-Leonidas A (3-1)-Has been idle since 7-23 and comes off a nice qualifier on 9-16. If 100% ready to battle this 7-year-old should be a major player. It's risky to disregard due to coming off a layoff as this group doesn't have any standouts.

                              Race 9

3-Always And Again (2-1)-Has not taken a picture since 7-5 but has cashed checks versus better here. Willing to push all the chips in. Bartlett takes the lines, and he was also between the pipes for the last win. Won't offer much of a price but should beat this crew with a dry track and a fair trip. Bartlett could blast out and look to land on the point, either way should be driven aggressively versus this kind.

                              Race 10

2-Gemologist (6-1)-Was claimed for $50k by the DeVita barn, then dropped in at the same price and was the race time chalk. But made a rare break at the start and lost all hope. Looks worthy of a swing at the morning line price and has a chance for redemption versus this bunch.
6-Cocktails N Dreams (6-1)-Will fade the program chalk (#1) off the last race and the switch to Marohn. This could be another price shot worth using. Cashed a 4th place check in last stepping up to this class. Gets some post relief and Bartlett sticks. Looking for an alert start and to be in striking range turning for the wire.
7-For A Dreamer (9/2)-Brennan appeared to have some steering issues last week. Was claimed by Burke for $50k on 8-22 and was buried in 2 starts with outside posts versus $75k claimers. Did pass 3 foes when straightened out down the lane in last which was at this level. Looking for an alert start and for the Burke barn to have the steering issues under control.

                              $1.00 Pick 4

                              2,5/1,3,4/3/2,6,7
                              Total Bet=$18
