Rocket Picks : Belmont at the Big A, Santa Anita Park Park, and Churchill Downs for September 30, 2022
          By: Aaron Halterman

It’s time for another great Friday of racing! For the free pick 4, we will head to Belmont at the Big A for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Churchill Downs and Santa Anita Park for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. Let’s GO!

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Belmont at the Big A:

Belmont at the Big A September 30, 2022

          Race 6: Maiden Special Weight

#9 Leadership Ability debuts in this spot for Chad Brown, who usually has them ready to roll for their debut efforts. This horse has been working steadily leading up to the race. #2 Fancypants Juliana was third on debut and should move forward off of that race. Luis Saez is back aboard again today.

          Race 7: John Hettinger Stakes
          freestar

#4 Marvelous Maude drops down in class after taking on graded stakes runners last time out at Saratoga. This is a solid class level for her. #7 Runaway Rumour also will drop down to New York bred stakes company today, while getting Prat aboard, which is a good sign.

          Race 8: Claiming

#3 Winter Pool runs first off of the claim for Duggan in this spot after running well against similar horses last time out. If he improves today he has a good shot. #2 Locally Owned runs first off of the claim as well after winning at a lower level last time out at Saratoga.

          Race 9: Allowance

#1 Diamond Hands was a nose away from victory last time out at the same level at Saratoga. This is her second race for Pletcher, which could lead to improvement. #5 Marketsegmentation goes for two in a row today; however, has not started since December of last year. We will see if Brown has her ready to run off of this long layoff.

          THE TICKET

          $.50 Pick 4 (Races 6-9) 2,9,10,11 / 4,7 / 2,3,5,7 / 1,3,5 – $48

                  # 7 EULALIA 5/1

                  # 3 SKYS IMAGE 5/2

                  # 8 LIEUTENANT KITTY 9/2

I lean toward EULALIA here. Is a definite contender - given the 65 Equibase speed fig from her most recent race. SKYS IMAGE - Shows evidence of the look of a lucrative play, averaging a solid 54 Equibase Speed Figure which is one of the best in this group. Duran has her trained soundly to break promptly out of the gate. LIEUTENANT KITTY - The speed figure of 63 from her most recent affair looks formidable in here. Looks very good for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid figures in dirt route races recently.

                    Thistledown - Race #5 - Post: 2:50pm - Maiden Special - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $33,900 Class Rating: 50

                    #4 IN TROUBLED WATERS (ML=8/1)

                    #5 KAT TRAX (ML=5/1)

IN TROUBLED WATERS - When this rider and handler combine forces you have to take a look. Correa and Faulkner have been fantastic together. The latest speed figure of 8 is the best last race speed rating in the bunch. HALO EFFECT - This jockey and handler have a fabulous winning percent when they join forces. The Sep 12th race at Belterra Park was at a class level of (56). Dropping down in class ranks considerably, so she should be in a good place. Got an unlucky trip her 1st time out. Hitting the track today, should do better if she stays out of trouble. Lasix can take some getting used to, especially for a filly. They usually hit stride the 2nd time using it, like we have with this horse. KAT TRAX - I like that this first-timer has been working over the Thistledown oval and makes her debut here today. With no past performance lines, one of the variables I look at are trainer stats, and Gorham has a +53 pct ROI clip with first-time-starters. A strong handicapping angle is getting Lasix for the first time. Gorham gives it to this one for this event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 KETTLE KISS (ML=2/1), #7 POLLY PRISSY PANTS (ML=5/2),

KETTLE KISS - This horse's sire hasn't done too well with first-timers. POLLY PRISSY PANTS - Not the proper 'placement' in this contest.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - IN TROUBLED WATERS - The TrackMaster Power Rating tells me that this fine animal looks good versus the rest of this field. I'm making a bet.

                      # 2 CRAFTY WINDSOR CAT 3/1

ALL CAPS has a strong shot to take this race. Jockey's recent return on investment numbers make this filly a good wager. With a quite good 71 speed figure last time out, will surely be a factor in this outing. Has to be given a chance versus this group displaying decent numbers lately and an average Equibase Speed Fig of 61 under similar conditions. DIXIE YODELER - Recently Brown has provided risk takers with a very good winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. Could beat this group of horses in this race given the 70 Equibase Speed Fig put up in her last outing. CRAFTY WINDSOR CAT - Has performed very well lately in sprint races, posting a nifty 61 avg speed rating. Has a sharp record at the distance and surface, which makes me have to consider this filly.

#1 KICK OUT THE JAMS (ML=4/1)

WINTER PRINCESS - She has the highest earnings per race entered. Check out this animal. This filly is in first-rate condition right now. Ended up third last time around the track and comes back promptly. Came home fast last out at Presque Isle Downs. That type of move bodes well for her chances in this race. KICK OUT THE JAMS - I like to see fast morning drills. This filly's last one was very good. Second fastest of the day. This filly is in nice physical condition, having run a strong race on Sep 20th, finishing third. A repeat of that most recent performance on September 20th where she garnered a speed rating of 79 looks strong enough to score in this event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 COOL FRONT (ML=5/2), #4 STARSHIP MACYS (ML=3/1), #6 TEAM HOT LINE (ML=8/1),

COOL FRONT - The result of fifth in the last race shows me that this animal may be tailing off. STARSHIP MACYS - On a downward cycle. Speed figures keep declining. When examining today's class rating, she will have to record a much better speed fig than last time out to compete in this dirt route. TEAM HOT LINE - The move down the stretch drive on Sep 7th indicated to me that this horse will have a tough go of it versus this field of tougher competition. Mediocre speed rating last time around the track at Presque Isle Downs at 1 mile. Don't feel this questionable contender will improve too much in today's race.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - KICK OUT THE JAMS - This filly is stepping up with each race. She has shown a notable points increase in her speed ratings over her last two races.

                            Picks Notes
#6 Midnight Brass Think she's going to find a great spot just behind a couple forward players, and she gets the slight edge in a top-heavy race.
#4 Mackenzie's Music She's a big threat with sharp pace, but I worry that the filly outside might keep her honest enough that she doesn't get a breather. Vulnerable late?
#5 Cedar's Wish She's probably just a thorn in Mackenzie's side, but she owns a couple races that would be interesting here if she does end up proving best of the pace.
Race Summary Midnight Brass and Mackenzie's Music both figure to command some action here, but the former might be able to work out just a bit better trip here from off the pace.

                            Picks Notes
#3 Mr Chance Romance He should really appreciate getting back around one turn after tracking the pace and fading going two turns last out, and I'm hoping she can get back to something like her debut run here.
#2 Unison He hasn't done much wrong through three starts, and he finally broke through with an easy graduation score last out. Wouldn't be a surprise, but I wonder if the top choice has a higher ceiling.
#7 Road Party He's another with a few pretty sharp running lines to his credit, but he has done all his work around two turns here, and he will probably have to finish from further off it tonight.
Race Summary Mr Chance Romance cuts back to the trip at which he turned in a couple nice efforts to open his career, and I'm willing to give him a pass on that last one.

                            Picks Notes
#6 Great Devotion Her local debut wasn't bad last time out, and I don't really trust some of the sharper forward players. She's not as exposed as most of these with just four starts under her belt, and she might be along to land this from midpack.
#7 Ballymena She's an obvious player, but her she has always had a tendency to settle for underneath shares after looming late, and I could easily see her doing the same thing here. Capable player.
#8 Jess For Kicks She is another who has already had her share of chances, and I figure she's much more likely underneath again here. That said, she's better than she showed last out and might be able to turn some tables from that spot.
Race Summary Great Devotion turned in an okay try when facing the locals for the first time, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her sustain her run a bit better this time around.

                              Picks Notes
#4 WART (3-1) Yet to show same zip leading to debut, plunges for 33 percent barn with MSW-to-claimer angle.
#6 MIQUEAS (5-2) Slowed by pace two back, chased 1-to-5 favorite in follow-up sprint try.
#2 SUN AND SURF (3-2) By 16 percent first-out sire, from 24 percent first-out barn.
Race Summary WART takes a magnified drop out of MSW company for his third start. He showed speed in the mornings at Emerald Downs but didn’t show it in a heavily-bet debut. Then he took back off the pace and lost contact with a pair of longshots making their debut at Golden Gate. He appears an all-or-nothing type, so play 4-2 and 4-6 exactas.

                              Picks Notes
#3 U S READY (3-1) Ran away from lesser rivals in short field but like the way she did it.
#5 DEISE DELIGHT (3-2) Piling up the checks, ran third in lone main-track try behind proven starter allowance foe.
#7 SMILING THUNDER (6-1) Broke better but failed to sustain rally off the claim, will be running late.
Race Summary U S READY takes a confident class hike after an easy debut victory. She only met three rivals but looked good shaking a duel with the favorite, accelerating at the top of the stretch and drawing clear late. Bet to win and place.

#5 BOLD ARTICLE (7-2) Proven miler, loves Golden Gate, one of many with a chance in here.
#3 HERE COMES RALPHIE (9-2) Upstaged series of runner-up finishes with back-to-back victories.
#1 WORK TO LIVE (8-1) Takes magnified class drop from the rail, but lone win was in 4-horse field.
Race Summary BOLD ARTICLE has four wins at one mile this year on the Golden Gate main track and the tactical speed necessary to adapt in an evenly-matched $20,000 claiming race. She gave way chasing Starship Endeavor, who came back with a wire-to-wire win at this level. Bet to win and place.

Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

                                September 30, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

Hoosier Park begins the weekend with a 13-race card. The feature comes in Race 10, an Open Pace with a $22,000 purse. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                                Race 10

2-Goldie's Legacy (7/2)-Cullipher 4-year-old steps-up and comes back in sequence after a sharp score on 9-24. Set a lifetime mark on 8-5 of 148.1 at HoP versus this kind. Might be overlooked and should come with a big try at a fair price.
6-Tellmeaboutit (3-1)-Fits better here than with Bulldog and others as was the case in the HoP Pacing Classic. Set a new lifetime mark of 147.4 in the previous HoP start on 8-19 and could be sitting on another big try.

                                Race 11

2-Odds On Hong Kong (12-1)-Was put away in mid-July and returned to race in August and September on smaller ovals. This Wrenn trainee has only 1 win but has finished 2nd in 9 of 17 starts. Had a race time of 150 back in June here and could spice up what appears to be a chalky sequence.
5-Yourwishisgranted (3-1)-Started from post 11 in last, the 3/5 chalk got on the point and was given too much respect. Did rally some off dull cover but after a 57.1 middle half there was no chance. Will look for a different set-up this time.
8-Big Law (5/2)-Banked over $104k in 2021 but has only 1 win in more starts this year and has earned less than $52k. Faces easier and this could be an opportunity to book an overdue win. Best to respect chances, has faced the toughest competition of any in this field.

                                Race 12

3-Little Rocket Man (6/5)-Local favorite has burned some money this year and has looked a bit off since being an injured scratch on 9-2. Might have showed some flashes of getting back into the groove with a 53.1 back half and a 25.2 last quarter on 9-23. The three horses who finished ahead are not in this group. May have found a beatable field and should be a tiny price.

                                Race 13

4-Northern Cadilac (3-1)-Looked like a winner coming through on the rail down the lane but hung the last 1/16th. Drops and gets a new set of hands as Peter Wrenn will be steering. This is the 4th start off the bench and only the 5th race this year. Might be ready for a winning effort in what has been a difficult season.
6-Millennial (12-1)-Looking for a price and this Sweet Lou 5-year-old could offer a nice return. Hawthorne shipper beat #5 there and cashed a check versus Open company in Stickney. Should fit well with this crew, hopefully will fly under the radar, and would use in gimmicks. This 5-year-old has toiled on the fair circuit and in 2022 has taken 9 pictures in 15 starts, so knows how to win.

                                0.50 Late Pick 4

                                2,6/2,5,8/3/4,6
                                Total $6
