Wednesday’s Horse Racing Tips: Nottingham, October 5th
    Stephen Harris Horse Racing Expert

    Today’s Horse Racing Tips – October 5th

There are 4 meetings in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with competitive back-end flat racing from Kempton, Navan and Nottingham providing big fields and tricky contests for punters to solve. Over jumps there is low grade action from Sedgefield (with Ludlow forced to abandon their scheduled meeting as the ground was too firm and no rain forecast today).

    Today’s Daily Nap

    Be Frank

    Nottingham 2:40 (UK time)

Henry Candy trained his first juvenile winner of the season last week, and the yard could be about to strike form after a largely disappointing season (two winners from eight runners in the last fortnight). This 2-y-o caught the eye at Newbury on his debut, sent off 50/1 and too green to do himself justice in a fair maiden for the track, but finishing with running left in the tank for a promising sixth. He is sure to have learnt plenty from that experience, and a more positive ride from Dane O’Neill is on the cards over this six furlong trip.

    Odds: NA
    Today’s Value Angle

    Cappoquin

    Nottingham 3:15 (UK time)

Sir Mark Prescott’s maiden filly has improved granted a test of stamina this summer, and can snap a frustrating spell of near-misses now that Luke Morris takes over in the saddle. She is very much a galloper rather than a quickener, so a positive frontrunning ride and the long Nottingham straight could be her chance to finally get off the mark at the tenth time of asking.

    Odds: NA

Odds are best odds available as at 2am October 5th 2022. Odds may now differ.

Racing heads to Canterbury on Wednesday afternoon for an eight-part program at metropolitan level. A drying forecast in the lead up to race day suggests the track could improve from the current Heavy 8; however, with showers forecast in the afternoon on Wednesday, we anticipate the meeting will end on a Heavy of some description. The rail comes out 8m for the meeting set to get underway at 1:25pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Canterbury – Roots

The Chris Waller-trained Roots has been nothing short of impressive in her two wins from as many starts this time in and looks set to bring up a third win on Wednesday. The four-year-old mare has given her rivals a start and then a beating in both victories, and in a field that is similar to what she disposed of last time out, she looks a clear best bet of the day. With the rise up to 60kg, Zac Lloyd hops on board claiming 3kg, so the drop to 57kg has her well weighted in this field. Her preference to settle in the second half of the field offsets barrier nine, and with a genuinely run 1580m event expected, we expect to see Roots flash home down the centre of the track and ultimately prove too hard to hold out.

Next Best at Canterbury – Ruinart

Having finished second in four of her last five starts, the John O’Shea-trained Ruinart gets her chance in the opener at Canterbury on Thursday. The four-year-old was a touch unlucky last time out when defeated by a length at Kembla Grange, and with even luck on Wednesday she should simply be winning. From barrier four, Brenton Avdulla will have this Hallowed Crown mare settled in a prominent position throughout over the 1580m. If she avoids any drama on the home turn, we expect Ruinart to put the field away in a couple of strides and bring up a long-overdue win. The $4.20 on offer with online betting sites looks a fair price to take on.

Best Value at Canterbury – Diva Diva

Diva Diva bought up a maiden victory at start five at Hawkesbury on September 22 and looks well placed from the Joseph Pride stable as she steps out in BM72 company. The four-year-old mare gained a gun run in transit and, despite hitting the lead a fair way out from home, had enough in the locker to fend off her rivals in the final furlong. From barrier five under Jason Collett, she draws to gain a similar run in transit. If Collett can have her within striking distance approaching the final furlong, Diva Diva has a sharp enough turn of foot to be saluting in this.

Queensland metropolitan racing returns to Ipswich Turf Club on Wednesday with an eight-race program commencing at 1:18pm AEST. The track is currently rated a Heavy 8 and with no rain on the forecast before raceday, we may be on a Soft track come Wednesday. The rail will go to the half-a-metre mark for the entire circuit.
        Ipswich Best Bet: Royal Nicci

Our best bet on the Ipswich program will be the lightly raced Royal Nicci for trainer Chris Anderson in race six over 1100m. This four-year-old mare has only had the three starts in her career for two wins and a second, all of which have come over the 1000m. This daughter of Nicconi was way too good for her rivals last start, even though the official margin was only one length, where she kicked away in the straight and was eased down at the 50m mark. Stephanie Thornton will retain the ride after riding this girl in her first two starts this preparation, whilst there is no doubt that Thornton and Anderson have a very high opinion of this girl. She will be going up to the 1100m for the first time, but that will be no issue and Royal Nicci will be winning again.

Next Best at Ipswich: Lord Markel

The Adam Campton-trained Lord Markel will be our next best bet, stepping out in race two over 1200m. This six-year-old gelding absolutely destroyed a small field over 1100m last start at the Gold Coast on September 24, winning by five lengths. This son of Hallowed Crown is very good first-up (5:3-2-0) and also has a handy record when second-up (5:1-1-1). Yvette Lewis will take the ride again after steering this guy to victory last start, and with her 3kg claim the pair will once again be very hard to beat if they get a cosy run from barrier seven.

        Ipswich Value Bet: Goldschlager

Our best value selection is the Chris Munce-trained Goldschlager in race five over 1666m. This five-year-old mare has been up for a long time this preparation, having eight runs without recording a win, but today she strikes one of weakest races she has run in for some time. Samantha Collett will take the ride on this daughter of Deep Field on a track where she obviously saves her best racing for, recording two wins and two places from five starts. Goldschlager ran on from the back last start over 1350m at Doomben on September 21, showing that getting back to this track and trip, where she is one from one, will only be a positive.

Racing returns to Sale Turf Club this Wednesday with a very competitive eight-race program kicking off at 1pm AEDT. The track is rated as a Soft 5 currently, but with some good weather around in Victoria we could find ourselves on a Good track on raceday. The rail will be out in the 5m position for the entire circuit.
          Sale Best Bet: Entremet

Our best bet at Sale will come up in the first race of the day. Entremet comes off an impressive maiden win on the Pakenham synthetic on September 22. This Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock-trained filly has to step up from maiden grade to a three-year-old Benchmark 64 Handicap, but that should be fine for this talented girl. Patrick Maloney will take the ride from barrier six, which should suit her get-back-and-run-on style. If Maloney can have this daughter of Magnus peeling off the leader’s back as they turn into the straight, she will be letting down strongly late.
          Best Bet

          Race 1 – Entremet silks#8 Entremet (6)

          3yo Filly | T: Robert Griffiths & Mathew de Kock | J: Patrick Maloney (57.5kg)

          $6.50 with Neds
          Next Best at Sale: Hesket

In the very last race of the day, we are going to be with the Mathew Ellerton-trained Hesket. This four-year-old gelding has been very impressive at his first two starts back this preparation, recording a fourth and a third and catching the eye both times. Damian Lane has ridden this gelding four times in 12 starts for a win and three minor placings, so we definitely have his favourite jockey on board. If this son of Fastnet Rock can be closer in the running from barrier five, we could see a much better result.
          Next Best

Next Best Again at Sale: Eventually

The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Eventually has a very good resume after only facing the starter five times for one win and two seconds. However, this four-year-old mare finished second before going out for a spell in the $500,000 VOBIS Sires Guineas at Caulfield on April 23. This girl will be returning from a five-month spell, and considering she is returning in a Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1208m, Blake Shinn should know that he has the best horse in the field and he should ride her as such. If Shinn can have this girl in a rhythm at the back of the field, she will be lengthening very nicely late and hopefully running them down.

Canterbury Racing Tips: Wednesday October 5th
            October 4th 2022, 3:19pm, By: Billy Bestford

Wednesday racing heads to Canterbury for another midweek meeting. We will see a strong seven race card however there is plenty of rain forecast for race day so keep an eye on track conditions throughout the afternoon.

As usual, Billy Bestford has had a look at the meeting and has found his best bets for the day. Check out his racing tips below!

Canterbury Racing Tips: Wednesday October 5th
            Race 2

Think (4) Cinderella Days can bounce back after her luckless 3rd here a few weeks ago. She has ticked off the heavy track box so the rain won’t affect her while her on-speed racing pattern is generally advantageous here at Canterbury. The horse which finish ahead of her last start came out and won well yesterday so the form is stacking up. She’s fitter now and looks hard to beat.

Wouldn’t shock to see (1) Shalailed improve off the first up 4th which was a very good run behind a couple of handy ones. His only other career win came 2nd up last time in work and he looks to have come back in good order.

            (3) Cool Kapp will have fans off the back of a smart debut win in QLD. McDonald takes over from the inside draw and this looks the logical step up in grade. Never seen a heavy track so they could scratch here.

            (5) Chairman the one at double figures who can run well.

            (4) Cinderella Days
            $4.00 (1 unit)

            Race 4

            (5) Impulse Control should be ready to win again here 4th up and hard fit. He is an out and out swimmer, with 4 wins from 9 starts on heavy tracks. Will roll to the lead and expect he takes plenty of running down here.

Like (1) Sessions Road getting back to Canterbury where he has had success before over this trip. The 3kg claim gets him in nicely at the weights and he has been in good form this prep. Comes off a 3rd to Zethus and Clemenceau who would both give this race a good shake.

            (8) Overlord loves heavy tracks and has been given a little freshen up for this. Generally produces his best racing off the back of a break and Jmac jumps in the saddle. If they are running on he will be right in this.

            (9) Cross The Rubicon is always better as she works her way into the prep and gets in nice and light here. This is tougher than what she faced first up but I think she has scope to improve.

            (7) Game Theory next best.

            (5) Impulse Control
            $4.80 (1 unit)

            Race 6

Want to have something on (4) Little Mix who was solid enough finishing 3rd over 1550m here first up. She was doing her best work late there and was having her her first run for the new stable so straight up to 1900m looks ideal. She’s had success on wet tracks previously in her career and I think she’s a strong winning hope.

            (1) Ting Tong probably the hardest to beat coming into this off a great first up effort over a trip short of his best. The horse who beat him that day was competitive in a strong Saturday race last weekend. He loves heavy conditions and will improve 2nd up.

            (5) Akhata is just managing to find one better at his last few starts and is knocking on the door for another win. He’s super honest and could be the one to finish over the top.

            (6) Carbonetti ran on well to finish 3rd down at Mornington last time out over 2000m. Interesting placement from the stable bringing him to Sydney but expect they could be looking for a wet track? McDonald onboard is a strong lead.

            (4) Little Mix
            $6.50 (1 unit)

            Race 7

If the stable are happy to run on the heavy track then I think (10) Shohei will be extremely hard to beat. He backed up a good trial with a comfortable win first up here over this trip and looks a horse with a stack of upside. Barrier 2 should see him sit just off the leaders back and Berry can present him at the right time and be too good for these.

            (7) Super Bright should enjoy getting up to 1200m now and presents 3rd up. Hardly been disgraced in some decent enough form races at first two runs this prep and in-form Dylan Gibbons takes over the riding.

            (8) Mirra View is the best wet tracker in the field and has the most exposed form in heavy conditions. 1200m could be a touch short of her best but the testing track might play into her favour. She’s built a nice record now and will be running on hard.

            (6) Hoover Lucy drops in grade for this and will take benefit out of the first up run. She has shown glimpses of good ability in her career so far and expect she is right in the finish once again. Getting up to 1200m is another tick for her.

            (10) Shohei
            $2.90 (1.5 units)

Happy Valley tips – Wednesday 05 October 2022

Winning Form share all of their best bets and tips for Wednesday’s racing coming your way from Happy Valley on 05 October 2022.

              by Winning Form

ALUE BET – LUCKY GOR ridden by L. Ferraris
BEST BET – ZONE D ridden by V. Borges

              12.45 – Race 1 | Class 3 Handicap | 1000m

              Selections: 5/1/6

HEROIC MASTER brings some attractive Australian form. He is an unexposed sort, comes in with a light weight and will be looking to keep his unbeaten record intact.

EQUALETTA BLITZ shares top weight but he reeled off back-to-back wins before the break and if returning fit can go close in this opening contest.

              13.15 – Race 2 | Class 5 Handicap | 1200m

              Selections: 1/3/2

ISLAND SURPRISE arguably should have won last time when a beaten favourite. He just failed to peg back Fortune Hero on that occasion and it is encouraging that the current Champion Jockey has kept faith in the ride.

SUNNY AND GOLD meets the top selection on similar weight terms and there shouldn’t be too much separating them when they hit the line.

              13.45 – Race 3 | Class 4 Handicap | 1650m

              Selections: 8/6/3

AMIGOS GIGGLE was narrowly beaten by United Endeavors before the break. He has trialled well since and from his neat draw can a make a positive return to the races.

SUNNY DELIGHT is still winless but has been knocking on the door and was a beaten favourite last time when caught late by Yee Cheong Warrior.

              14.15 – Race 4 | Class 5 Handicap | 1650m

              Selections: 7/9/4

LOYAL AMBITION finished runner-up behind Circuit Elite who was given a peach of a ride. He should come on nicely with that run under the belt and is a leading contender in this line-up.

MEDIC ELITE finished close-up behind shock winner All Is Ready last time out and has claims if confirming his recent improvement.

              14.45 – Race 5 | Class 5 Handicap | 1200m

              Selections: 11/1/4

REGENCY POET finished 1.6 lengths behind CIGAR BUDDIES last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights and can turn the tables on his recent conqueror.

WINS ALL was fancied last time but failed to deliver. He has cracked pole position and is capable of returning to best form.

              15.15 – Race 6 | Class 3 Handicap | 1650m

              Selections: 2/6/3

ZONE D produced a fair comeback run when beaten just under three lengths by subsequent winner Nearly Fine. He should strip a much fitter horse, is nicely handicapped and looks one of the better bets on the card.

VIVA HUNTER meets the top selection on similar weight terms and there shouldn’t be too much between them at the finishing post.

              15.45 – Race 7 | Class 3 Handicap | 1200m

              Selections: 4/6/5

XPONENTIAL may have just needed his comeback run when beaten just under two lengths by Beauty Glory. 3/4 of his career wins have come on this course and he looks set to give another good account of himself.

STOICISM finished right behind the top selection last time and the pair interestingly meet on similar weight terms.

              16.15 – Race 8 | Class 4 Handicap | 1200m

              Selections: 2/7/5

GANG OF BROTHERS was clear second best in his comeback effort when beaten by Durham Star. He is a nicely handicapped chestnut and should be right there if overcoming the wide barrier.

OUR CLASS ACT won by a length in his comeback run. He is likely to race on the speed and is taking on slightly stronger rivals.

              16.50 – Race 9 | Class 4 Handicap | 1200m

              Selections: 4/8/6

LUCKY GOR was beaten just under a length by Pretty Queen Prawn last time. He will enjoy the step up in distance and despite being winless still represents decent each-way value for Hong Kong racing pundits.

HARDLY SWEARS was strongly fancied last time out. He was beaten by Our Class Act on that occasion – Watch form line of Race 8 number 7.

#8 Tracker Jacker Forward player steps up to try winners for the first time, but there are no arguments on form from me after turning in three really good efforts in a row since showing up locally. Dangerous.
#1 Scoop There It Is She'll probably try to have a go of it from the fence in here, and that kind of inside pace can be dangerous in a runner like this dropping in class. Wouldn't surprise.
Race Summary Shes a Threat will need to get back to somethin more like she showed in August if she's going to land this one, but I'm hoping her last was just a blip rather than the start of a form reversal.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #4
                Picks Notes
#10 Great Blake Think he should land a great trip while spying the pace from close range from the outside, and he might offer a bit better price than he did when short at 4/5 last out.
#4 Blue Sky's Above He's capable of landing this right back if he brings something similar to that last one, but I'm not sure he's running right back to that race here.
#2 Leaveitalonelarry He beat the top choice here last month and has been a pretty consistent player locally this season. That said, it has been quite some time since he won a race, and he's probably more likely underneath again here.
Race Summary Great Blake should get a perfect trip again here, and he's capable of a running line that's a bit better than what he showed last time around. Gets first jump and holds?

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
                Picks Notes
#2 Heavenly Hash She was a even fifth in the debut run, but she gets blinkers for this second trip to post and might stay more engaged in the early going today. Barn has been good with these types in recent years.
#10 Zip Code Envy She's the obvious player from those with experience after turning in a couple sharp tries to open her career, and she draws nicely to settle a few lengths off the pace and watch everything unfold.
#6 Michele M. Debuter brings a series of fairly forward works to this one, and I get the feeling she's going to be set to go out of the box with these.
Race Summary Heavenly Hash gets blinkers for this second career start, and she probably has some room to come forward with that debut run under her belt. Hoping she offers a bit better than the 7/2 ML price.

                  Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

                  Penn National - Race #1
                  Picks Notes
#5 WICKED T (5-1) Swung wide for stretch drive, just missed in longer route, good value play.
#3 LAUGH IT OFF (8-5) Slowed by pace two back, then romped for second win in last four starts.
#1 BEAUTIFUL TIZ (8-1) Overland trip, late run at resurgent pace setter, moves outside in.
Race Summary WICKED T closed full of run to just miss in a tougher condition on short rest. She’s 6/2-2-1 with Cora riding and worth a win and place bet at 5-1 on the morning line.

                  Penn National - Race #2
                  Picks Notes
#6 TAKE THE ROSES (5-2) First time tagged since Kreiser claim, class should tell in this field.
#5 CAR LADY (2-1) Stablemate of ‘Roses’ won 2 of last 3 and remained eligible for this, needs alert start.
#4 LONDONDERRY (6-1) Form dulled after back-to-back wins at Parx, starts fresh.
Race Summary TAKE THE ROSES holds a class edge over these rivals after finishing third to the likes of Queen Rosemary (26/5-7-7, $131k) and Bonita Lassie (26/6-4-6, $122k) in starter allowance company recently. Bet on her to win and place.

                  Penn National - Race #5
                  Picks Notes
#1 HANFORD (10-1) In range while in-hand, hard ridden while 4-wide on turn, lacked late kick as fave.
#5 JUSTICEOFTHEPEACE (6-1) Got jump on odds-on victor, needed more late, barn 37 percent in maiden claimers.
#2 LA PAZ (8-1) Dueled, just missed but beat Hanford on the stretch-out in first main track try.
Race Summary HANFORD failed at 1-to-2 and 3-to-5 odds in his last three starts, but he is worth a play at an inflated price. He raced in hand down the backstretch, bid 4-wide under a drive on the turn and lacked stretch kick last out. But he moves from post 10 to the rail and lures Conner to ride for his second start after six weeks away. Play a 1-ALL exacta.

                        # 1 BRICKS AND MORTAR 10/1

                        # 2 IM SPEEDY 3/1

                        # 4 THISCHICKSCOLDASICE 5/1

I like BRICKS AND MORTAR in this race and is a formidable value bet given the line. Is a definite contender - given the 62 Equibase speed fig from his most recent race. The big drop in company can only aid this horse this time out. IM SPEEDY - Is tough not to examine based on Equibase Speed Figures which have been quite good - 61 avg - of late. Could best this group based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 63 - of his last affair. THISCHICKSCOLDASICE - Has been moving admirably and has among the best speed in the race for today's distance. Formidable jockey and trainer combo winning 22 percent of their races working together.

                          #2 LANALIKESCHOOCHOOS (ML=3/1)

LANALIKESCHOOCHOOS - Ouzts and Smith perform well when they combine forces. Not easy to best a winning pct of 31. Smith drops her down to this class. You don't need too much more information to think this animal should run well at this level. I like the fact that this filly's last speed figure, 61, is tops in this field. Has a good opportunity in this race to break maiden switching to the dirt right here.

                          Vulnerable Contenders: #5 QUEEN TAPITURE (ML=5/2), #3 REDHAIREDCOLLEEN (ML=9/2), #7 QIA (ML=5/1),

QUEEN TAPITURE - September 2nd is the last time we've seen this filly around. Have to be a little bit leery. REDHAIREDCOLLEEN - Tough to play any horse in a sprint race at 9/2 when she hasn't shown any successful efforts in sprints in the last sixty days. Don't believe this vulnerable equine will make a winning move in today's race. That last speed figure was run-of-the-mill when compared with today's class figure. QIA - Doesn't appear to be in a comfortable circumstance this time around.

                          STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#2 LANALIKESCHOOCHOOS is going to be the play if we are getting 1/1 or better

                            # 2 RELEASED 4/1

MY BUDDY B is my choice. This colt must be given a shot just off the earnings per start in dirt sprint events alone. Has a sharp shot in this race if you like back class. He has put up very good figs under today's conditions and ought to fare well versus this field. AIN'T STRAIGHT - Gorostieta has one of the best winning percentages in this field with entries running at this distance and surface. Could beat this group given the 76 speed figure earned in his last outing. RELEASED - Meyers and Rivera have won 19 percent of their races giving this animal a quite good chance. Has run soundly when racing a dirt sprint race.

                              #1 LONGSTORYLUCY (ML=4/1)

SHE FIGURES - Like the way this mare's finish positions keep getting better. That's a sure sign of improving form. Have to give this mare a good shot. Ran a nice outing last race out within the last month. This mare is rounding her way back into shape. Should run well today. She has the uppermost earnings per start. Take a long look at this animal. LONGSTORYLUCY - Faces state bred foes today after finishing third versus 'open' company on September 21st. Have to make this mare a strong challenger; she comes off a good effort on September 21st.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 LADY MADISON (ML=5/2), #4 CASTLE OF CAYLEE (ML=3/1), #5 BONNIE BLUETOOTH (ML=5/1),

LADY MADISON - The probable favorite is shaky here with the lack of morning activity. CASTLE OF CAYLEE - Quite unimpressive speed fig in the last race at Charles Town at 7 furlongs. Don't feel this questionable contender will improve too much in today's race. BONNIE BLUETOOTH - Speed ratings of 66/49/46 are pointed the wrong way.
