      Jeff Siegel's National Best Plays - 10-14-22

      October 14, 2022

Jeff Siegel’s Best Plays for Friday, October 14, 2022

Belmont at the Big A First Race – Post time: 12:35 ET
      6-Inflationary (5-1)

Juvenile son of Into Mischief was purchased by a sharp outfit for $475,000 as a yearling and makes his debut from a cozy outside post in this one-turn mile affair with a series of workouts that should have him plenty fit. The Chad Brown-trained colt lands Flavian Prat, one of the barn’s “go-to” riders (30% and a strong ROI), so all indications are that this is a colt with plenty of ability and extremely live and well-meant first crack out of the box. At 5-1 on the morning line, he’s worth a gamble in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Keeneland Seventh Race – Post time: 4:12 ET
      12-Strobe (9/5)

Won at first asking on the Kentucky Derby program at Churchill Downs like a colt with immense talent but makes his first start since after taking the summer off in this first level allowance sprint that came up fairly competitive. The son of Into Mischief earned a stakes quality speed figure in victory, so if he returns as well as he left the Brad Cox-trained sophomore should be capable of handling this class hike in stride. We’ll make him a win play and rolling exotic single and hope to get close to his morning line of 9/5.

Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

        October 14, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

The finest Indiana Breds will be competing for more than $2.3 million in purses on Hoosier Champions night. There will be eight Super Finals on the card for 2 & 3-year-olds, each with a $250,000 purse. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 12. The sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

        Race 12

3-Always Gonna B You (12-1)-This filly shouldn't be 12-1 but hoping so. Came on swiftly down the lane after being locked in on the rail. Last week was the 1st start since 9-19 and the 1st time back at HoP since 7-23. Could be sitting on a big try.
6-JK's Rollin Baby (8/5)-Comes off 2 powerful decisive wins and is a main player. My only concern is this being the 3rd start in 14 days, and we are coming to the end of the season. Otherwise, should be difficult to down.
10-Marvelous Marsha (7/2)-Winner of 4 in a row has hit the board in 12 of 13 this year and shouldn't be counted out despite starting in the 2nd tier. The 2 has gate speed and De Long could land in a decent early seat. The faster the pace the better because Marsha can fly late.

        Race 13

3-Coach Stefanos (8/5)-Took no prisoners in a 1.50 romp versus this kind on 10-6. That was the 2nd start on Lasix and it really kicked in. This Miller trainee rolled the 2nd half in 54.1 and coasted home with a .27 final panel after coming 1st over. Stringing along and looking for more of the same.

        Race 14

1-Sure Thing Herman (5-1)-Had little chance off a tough trip from post 11. Did finish willingly to come on for 4th and now could get back to its winning ways starting from the rail. Bender has some options with this post draw and the 3-year-old knows his way to the HoP winner's circle (16-8-1-3).
3-Big Law (15-1)-Started from the 2nd tier, had an issue around the opening turn and raced wide for the entire way. Needless to say, that trip didn't end well but was game for most of the mile. Miller could work a sweet journey and be in striking range turning for the wire.
5-Soaring Now (6/5)-Winner of 3 straight showed some guts down the lane and has won 9 of 17 at HoP. Stutzman trainee is ultra sharp, and the race probably goes through this 3-year-old.

        Race 15

5-BB Lucky Boy (2-1)-Has the gate speed to land on the point or right behind the main foe below. Dunn needs to ration the speed and this pilot will keep the George trainee in play from start to finish.
6-Ultra Image (5/2)-This is the other George pupil with Tetrick between the pipes and is probably the one to beat on this oval. Should be racing on the point or close to it and the HoP record of (15-5-3-2) is one to respect.

        0.50 Late Pick 4

        3,6,10/3/1,3,5/5,6

Frank Carulli: Laurel Park Late Pick 4 Analysis Friday, Oct. 14

          October 14, 2022 | By Frank Carulli

LAUREL PARK LATE PICK 4 ANALYSIS
          Friday, October 14

Laurel Park’s scheduled turf races last Friday were switched to the main track, resulting in short fields and payouts. This week’s Late Pick 4 features a 12-horse $40,000 claiming route and nine-horse Maiden Special Weight sprint on the lawn, perhaps leading to a lucrative payout for a 50-cent base wager. Here’s a look at the action:

LRL 6th race (3:23 EST) -- In his last three turf starts, C MY MEISTER met the likes of multiple stakes winner Red Danger (3-8 turf, $442k), Grade III winners Coinage and Main Event, Hawthorne Derby runaway winner Speaking Scout and Prince of Wales Stakes victor Duke of Love. He was outrun in a turf-to-dirt optional claiming race off the layoff earlier this month, but must be used in the leadoff leg. CASH ROCKET saved ground to the stretch, patiently waited for a seam to burst through, and won going away in his first start for a claiming price. Trainer Brittany Russell’s runners repeat 21 percent of the time and win at a 26 percent rate in their second start off a six-month layoff. (If the race is switched to the main track, use numbers 1, 4 and 13)

LRL 7th race (3:57 EST) -- ORDER OF THE KETTLE will be an underlay after he recovered from a slow start and rallied into photo-finish view in a well-bet debut. But no one in that field had posted a Beyer speed figure higher than a 46 going into the race, so the suggestion is to take him off the ticket or include several others. Hit the ‘ALL’ button.

LRL 8th race (4:31 EST) -- GRAND ESCAPE can be excused for a rough trip last out and he is a strong play off his first two running lines. He kicked clear late in a productive 4-1/2F race at Penn National in his debut, then chased the favorites in a rapid-paced stakes at Colonial Downs. He finished third, well clear of Bandits Heart, who came back to win the $50,000 Dover Stakes at Delaware Park. He is today’s solo play.

LRL 9th race (5:03 EST) – SAUCY ran a game second to 2-to-5 winner Better Call Mama, who repeated in a $40,000 claimer. She gets Lasix today but will have company on the front end in the form of Saratoga invader DIAMANT DAMHSA and perhaps others. DETERMINED CHARM could sit the ideal trip after she overcame traffic mid-turn and rallied for second behind the 3-2 winner on the cutback to 5F. SISTER MAC, whose dam was a multiple graded stakes-winning sprinter, will be running late and is a must use on the ticket. KRONE gets on the ticket as a longshot as trainer Mark Shuman is 18-percent with first-time starters on the lawn. (If the race is switched to the main track, use numbers 2, 4, 5 and 11)

          Suggested 50-cent Ticket
          LRL 6th Race: 1, 10
          LRL 7th Race: ALL
          LRL 8th Race: 1
          LRL 9th Race: 2, 7, 8, 11
          COST: $40

            Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

            Charles Town - Race #6
            Picks Notes
#3 Noid He'll step up into this next condition off a nice win last time out, and he figures to be in line for a nice trip spying the speed again here. Wouldn't be a shock right back.
#6 Hot Fudge Sonde He just handled some of these last time out when second, and I like that he has some versatility in his running style to give his rider some options out of the gate.
#2 Spanglish His recent form isn't a whole lot to look at, but he ran some races earlier this year that would keep him in the frame at a decent price. Shares?
Race Summary Noid and Hot Fudge Sonde are tough to get past in this one, and I'll try to get Spanglish in the picture at a price to boost the gimmicks.

            Charles Town - Race #7
            Picks Notes
#4 Strong Fiber He'll step into open company off a couple sharp wins with statebred friends, and he should be right up on the splits again here while looking to prompt the pace and finish.
#3 Mr Tingles He'll rise again off the claim after romping against claiming company in that last one, but he'll probably need a bit better for the new team, as he has sometimes struggled with similar in the past.
#7 Settlement Date He's another in with a chance here while likely to flash a little forward speed from the outside. That said, he doesn't always back up his good races, so I would want a fair price to sign on to see if he can bring something similar here.
Race Summary Strong Fiber looks the part in here while looking for a third score in a row, and his form has been super consistent with the exception of the two runs surrounding the layoff.

            Charles Town - Race #8
            Picks Notes
#10 Ballymena This 14-start maiden is not exactly brimming with excuses at this point, but maybe the change of scenery wakes him up just enough to be competitive with these.
#6 Maysville Miss She's a pretty honest type who figures to be in the mix again here, but she's typically a bit one-paced in the lane. Needs better than the modest effort at 3/5 last out.
#4 Irish Saumurai She has form from Florida that can make her tough here, but I worry about her lack of early speed and whether she'll leave herself too much work to do here.
Race Summary Ballymena is meeting a couple logical players who might be a bit overbet, and she's likely to bounce back here off the unusually flat run last out.

              Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

              Gulfstream Park - Race #2
              Picks Notes
#9 TACTICAL CHEECH (3-1) Knocking on the door for first win, can knock it down in this spot.
#7 CHEF MENTEUR (7-2) Ran well fresh, has tactical speed, distance should suit him well.
#3 WINTER’S GHOST (8-1) Faded against top one as the favorite for new connections.
Race Summary TACTICAL CHEECH rallied for second in his last three starts, once against a 3-to-5 winner, twice while 6-wide and the latest on a sloppy track at today’s distance. He draws outside but can upstage to a victory with a clean trip. Bet to win and place.

              Gulfstream Park - Race #5
              Picks Notes
#1 DIVINE CONNECTION (3-1) Seeks re-run of long sprint two starts back in second start for new barn.
#2 SONICUS (6-5) Speed, best numbers, drifted on lead at this distance two back and got caught.
#6 MORE GLORY (8-1) Late-runner exits fast-paced races, use underneath in gimmick wagers.
Race Summary DIVINE CONNECTION stalked the winning favorite Alluramore (2-7, $69k) in the 4-path but lacked kick in a 6F statebred allowance. She earned her top speed figure when second at this distance in the race prior, though she benefited when the 2-1 second favorite ran into early trouble. Bet to win and place and play 1-2 and 1-6 exactas.

              Gulfstream Park - Race #6
              Picks Notes
#5 TOUT ENSEMBLE (8-1) Ranged up 4-wide on turn, flattened out after early trouble in MSW ranks.
#7 FELINE (3-1) Plagued by poor starts, Zayas replaces apprentice jockey and picks up 10 pounds.
#4 SHEZA SPITFIRE (6-1) Close up until stretch in last three starts on a fast track, lacked punch.
Race Summary TOUT ENSEMBLE is a live price play on the drop from Maiden Special Weight company. She was squeezed back to last and raced wide throughout at 7F. She loomed boldly while 4-wide for the stretch drive but flattened out. Bet to win and place.
