Tuesday’s Bathurst races best bets & quaddie tips | October 18
        October 18, 2022 5:05 am.

Where Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing – 55 Eleven Mile Dr, Bathurst NSW 2795
        When Tuesday, October 18, 2022
        First Race 1:35pm AEDT

        Visit Ladbrokes

Tuesday’s scheduled meeting at Orange has been transferred to Bathurst, where we will see a competitive seven-race program from 1:35pm AEDT onwards. There’s plenty of progressive types that we are interested to see go around, particularly early in the card. The track is currently rated a Soft 7, but clearing skies in the Central Tablelands could bring us closer to a Soft 6 come raceday. The rail sits out 3.5m with the cutaway between the 500-300m markers. The track should play evenly throughout the day, so hopefully we can find a few winners.
Best Bet at Bathurst – Covalent

The Bjorn Baker-trained Covalent comes here after a 162-day spell which followed a lacklustre preparation with just the two starts to her name and one placing. While obviously things didn’t go to plan, she’s come back in outstanding order after some exciting trials, particularly her latest at Rosehill on October 4 when cantering home in impressive style to win it by 2.5 lengths. If she shows up here like her trial form, we can’t see her not figuring in the finish. Mitchell Bell jumps on this filly by I Am Invincible and from barrier one should be looking for the lead or to sit just on the back of the speed. They should be too good for this lot provided Covalent can handle the testing conditions.
        Best Bet

        Race 2 – Silk #6 Covalent (1)

        3yo Filly | T: Bjorn Baker | J: Mitchell Bell (55.5kg)

        $2.50 with Ladbrokes
Next Best at Bathurst – Johnny Dash

Be jump back to the first race on the card to find our next best in the form of Johnny Dash for the Annabel Neasham yard. Another one for us by I Am Invincible over the sharp sprinting trip for this 1100m contest, Johnny Dash looks to be another horse on the rise here looking for an easier task after running into some tough assignments up in Queensland. He’s improved since running on the Polytrack surfaces up north and has trialled very solidly here in NSW. Johnny Dash is first-up on Tuesday after two trials, suggesting this is a strong target for the stable. He ran better than the formbook declares to finish seventh at Warwick Farm on September 23, 7.6 lengths away from the trial winner. But he was hardly asked for an effort before being strong to the line again in another trial on October 7. Look for Andrew Adkins to be prominent from stall one and be hammering home late to score late.
        Next Best

        Race 1 – Silk #9 Johnny Dash (1)

        3yo Gelding | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Andrew Adkins (56.5kg)

        $2.10 with Bet365
Best Value at Orange – Elle Effess

We return to the Bjorn Baker stable for our value runner on Tuesday afternoon with four-year-old mare Elle Effess. She broke her maiden two starts back at Forbes on September 20 in professional fashion, before over-racing at Goulburn last time on October 4. She raced very ungenerously that afternoon and just didn’t give the best account of herself in what was a hot Class 1. On paper, this looks a much easier contest, and at her best she is more than capable of winning this BM58 affair. Winona Costin hops back aboard as well for a huge boost in confidence, considering she was the jockey to steer Elle Effess to victory in her only winning start. They’ll lead, they’ll kick, and they’ll look the winner for a long way out.
        Best Value

          Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 18th October 2022

          by Racing and Sports

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 18.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Bathurst, Grafton, Casterton and Cairns.

          BATHURST: RACE 5 @ 4:05 PM

DREAM ECLIPSE (2) has hit the top-five at his past six outings and does boast a victory over this distance range. Drawn to get a cosy run in transit from gate four and is expected to be doing his best work late. The well-related ADELAIDE'S DIAMOND (1) is having his first run for the new stable and will be at peak fitness now fourth-up from the spell. Respect any market confidence. DOWN TO EARTH (6) got the job done last time out and sure to take a lot of confidence from that victory. Top-three contender on best form. KEEP ON GOING (3) is drawn to get all the favours from the inside alley and has to be considered. ELLE EFFESS (7) best of the rest from the Baker camp.
          SELECTIONS: Dream Eclipse to win.

          GRAFTON: RACE 7 @ 4:55 PM

ANOTHER SPIRIT (1) was beaten 1.2L at Ipswich running his best race and then missed a nose here for the new barn. Just needs average luck in the run to take this out. MORE TO ADORE (8) spiked his figures winning the Maiden here from the pace. He also draws awkwardly but will push forward and can make the finish. FROZEN PRINCE (9) led and was an easy winner three-back at Nowra and that would have him in it. He was run down late the latest having his first run for the new barn and will be better today. REWARDING TRANCE (4) brought decent form to resumption but looked in need of it. Draws low today and expect quick improvement.
          SELECTIONS: Backing Another Spirit.

          CASTERTON: RACE 8 @ 5:00 PM

FOR ARI (15) is racing in the best form of his career and showed good speed last time out when second over 2000m at Wangaratta on October 2. A repeat effort here will see him hard to catch. GRETA MOON (10) broke her maiden status at start six with a tough win over 1600m at Coleraine on September 23. This tougher but bred to run the trip. MAYKSUMNOISE (9) made an ideal start to her career last time out, scoring by a head on debut over 1500m at Ballarat Synthetic. Can go right on with the job now.
          SELECTIONS: For Ari to win.

          CAIRNS: RACE 6 @ 4:04 PM

NEVER CRY (2) is a former NSW galloper who will be better for the two runs for the Massingham barn. Has won 2/2 third-up and wins this race near best. COCHRANE (4) was plain the latest and forgiving. The form prior stacks right up and he draws the rail and gets another chance. STRONACH (6) has won two of his last three and three winners have come out of the latest. He races handy and will get every chance to go on. CAPTIVATED (3) would be competitive at best and Wiggins going on is a lead.
          SELECTIONS: With Never Cry.

              Fairview tips – Tuesday 18 October 2022

Winning Form share all of their best bets and tips for Tuesday’s racing coming your way from Fairview on 18 October 2022.
              by Winning Form

              Winning Form Best Bets

              Race 1: DIVINE DESIGN (9)
              Race 2: LEMME GO (1)
              Race 4: DRENGS FERRY (6)
Race 7: SWEET THE SOUND (7)

              Magic Tips Best Bets

              Race 1: DIVINE DESIGN (9)
              Jockey: R Fourie – Trainer: A Greef

Trainer Alan Greeff holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first two past the post. DIVINE DESIGN got going too late when third over 1200m on the polytrack last time. Her penultimate run when finishing second over this C&D was encouraging. The daughter of Captain Of All tries the tongue- tie for the first time which may do the trick. Richard Fourie retains the ride and she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

              Race 2: LEMME GO (1)
              Jockey: M Yeni – Trainer: K Mitchley

LEMME GO ran a good race when second in his stable debut over this C&D last time. He showed good speed that day, but found one too good in the form of Globetonic. He would have come on from the run and Muzi Yeni may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

              Top Bet For Today

              Race 3: OPENING CEREMONY (1)
              Jockey: L Mxothwa – Trainer: D McKenzie

OPENING CEREMONY is the best bet on the programme. He showed good improvement in his last start over 1400m on this course. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to 2000m. Luyolo Mxothwa takes the ride and from his mid-field draw of five, he should be the horse to beat.

              Race 7: PEACH DAIQUIRI (8)
              Jockey: L Mxothwa – Trainer: S B Kotzen

PEACH DAIQUIRI was super-impressive when winning on debut over this C&D. She showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Vercingetorix found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. She does take on stronger, but could be anything and can remain unbeaten.

              Value Bet For Today

              Race 8: RAISETHEREDLANTE (9)
              Jockey: S Sosibo – Trainer: G Smith

RAISETHEREDLANTERN finished 2.75 lengths behind BETHEL last time. He is 7kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once and finished third once from three starts over this C&D. With just 52kgs on his back, he should return to winning ways.

Australian racing tips – Tuesday 18 October 2022 – Grafton

Winning Form share all of their best bets and tips for Tuesdays racing coming your way from Grafton 18 October 2022.

                  by Winning Form

Winning Form share all of their best bets and tips for Tuesdays racing coming your way from Grafton 18 October 2022.

Best Bet: ANOTHER SPIRIT (Race 7)
Value Bet: HARDLEY GREY (Race 8)

                  Race 5.

DALTORO has finished third in his last two starts, the latest over six furlongs, just under a half length behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only nabbed in the shadow of the post. From a handy draw three, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

EXCLUSIVE also finished third in his latest outing over the six furlongs, but in his case, he was 0.8L back from the winner. He raced three wide approaching the home turn that day, but finished his race off well and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but he should be doing his best work late.

AMIRYKAL is a 6yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when fifth over six furlongs, 0.7L adrift of the victor. She stayed on well in that contest and whilst drawn one inside the latter, she should nevertheless be included in all bets.
                  Race 6.

JUSTADUDE won over six furlongs three runs back and has finished third in his next two starts, the latest when 1.8L behind the winner over five furlongs, when returning from a 15 week break. He battled all the way down to the line that day and the 1100M may well be just the distance he is looking for. He gets a useful gate four and looks to be the one to side with here.

A 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to THE POLENITSA who has only had the two runs to date, finishing second on debut over five furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win by 0.8L over the same sprint trip at the second time of asking, despite being slow away. She returns here after a 20 week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from one gate inside the top pick, she should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

NO RETREAT showed solid improvement to finish third last time out over five furlongs, just a head off the winner and has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. She will have to deal with a wide draw eleven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
                  Race 7.

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, ANOTHER SPIRIT to chalk up his second career victory. He finished second last time out over this c&d, beaten a short-head, this after striking the front at the 250M mark and then only being nabbed on the line. He has pulled gate eight and may prove difficult to topple.

ANSELMO has finished second in his last two outings over 1700M, the latest by 1.7L after being slow away and racing four wide without cover, but no less than six runners out of that race have subsequently won, so that form is solid. He returns from a 16 week break without having had a barrier trial, but if fit and well, he should turn in another honest performance today.

ALL BEANS followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a fifth place finish next time out over five furlongs, just over four lengths adrift of the winner. He was returning from a 17 week spell that day and from gate three, he should be involved in the finish.
                  Race 8.

HARDLEY GREY missed out on his hat-trick after victories over six and seven furlongs when finishing third last time out over 1500M, just over a half length behind the winner, but he overraced in the early stages and had to be held up between the 600M and 450M marks that day, so could be considered an unlucky loser. He will have to negotiate draw thirteen, but is still taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

PRINCESS ZEDDY is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name. She jumped awkwardly and came five wide into the home stretch when ending up in second spot last time out over seven furlongs, just a length back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She has pulled gate seven and should give the boys a good run for their money.

FOUR EGOS is another one that is seldom far off the action, finishing second in his last two outings, the latest over 1500M, beaten just a head. The gelding tried to go from gun to tape that day and from his cozy draw five, he should turn in another solid performance today.

                      #11
                      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

                      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #5
                      Picks Notes
#9 Point Well Taken The barn has done good work with limited local starters, and this filly looks like she almost has to be tough here if she can bring anything like the Kentucky Downs form with her. She has had eight chances, so I'm a bit wary here, but she really feels like the right horse right now.
#1 One More Laugh Something like his debut effort in New Orleans would keep him in the frame with these at a mid-range price, but he's going to need to bring something a lot better than he did off the bench in his local debut. Barn has been cold here the last six weeks or so. Capable, but I have mixed feelings.
#5 Standup Comedienne She has nine starts under her belt, but this is the first time she'll go short on the turf after showing some pretty sharp pace at times going long on the grass. She'll have to fire off the April layoff, but she's cutback turf route pace, and that's always going to be appealing here.
Race Summary Point Well Taken figures to get bet, but I think she is going to be a handful here off the recent tries. One More Laugh and Standup Comedienne offer alternatives and potential gimmick options.

                      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #7
                      Picks Notes
#5 Regimental I'm guessing he'll have something more to offer here after passing some runners late in what felt like a good race at Kentucky Downs. Second time out while running with Lasix? Works for me for a team that has been a pinpoint 3-for-4 here of late.
#11 New Art The dirt debut was fine, and there is presumably some upside here in this second career start. He's probably a bit overbet based on the connections, but he seems capable of landing this.
#6 Graphene Cassock He chased and stopped hard in the debut in the same common race as the top choice in Kentucky, but he's back today as a gelding while racing with Lasix for the first time, and he has turned in a few regular works since the first try. Wouldn't be the biggest longshot surprise.
Race Summary Regimental kept on well enough in a good race at Kentucky Downs to open his career, and his team has been doing solid work here from limited started in recent weeks. Hoping a couple players from the Cox barn take enough cash to keep the price playable.

                      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #3
                      Picks Notes
#6 Lord Donegal He's probably supposed to win this after a good debut try here in August, and any move forward from that probably makes him tough. That said, the barn turns a negative ROI with 25% winners in this kind of race, so I'd expect another underlay.
#4 Augustus Blue He has only shown the briefest of chasing pace before fading badly in all three starts, but he will run with Lasix for the first time while meeting a group that has not shown much speed on paper. Maybe ha good break gives his backers a thrill on the engine at a big price?
#2 Oh Chic He debuted here last month, but I bring similar notes for this guy as with Lord Donegal. He's an obvious player, and I wouldn't blame anyone who thinks the Cox barns owns this race.
Race Summary Lord Donegal and Oh Chic hail from the same barn that tends to be tough with this kind, and I just couldn't find anyone that I got excited about to try to beat Donegal. He should get a great trip just behind whatever pace there is, and maybe Augustus Blue can stick around to boost the gimmicks.

                        Fort Erie - Race #5
                        Picks Notes
#6 NOT A GAME (6-1) In top form, in perfect spot off allowance win, tempting price attached.
#2 CRUMLIN EXPERIENCE (8-1) Romped in 5-horse field to go 2-2 at 6.5F in second try on Fort Erie dirt.
#8 WICKED CRAZY (5-2) Cuts back in distance after back-to-back victories at Fort Erie.
Race Summary NOT A GAME pressed the dueling favorites early, backed off to third, then resurfaced with a winning 3-wide rally at the top of the stretch in his first allowance test. Now he lands in a nw/3 claimer in his third start off the claim. Bet to win and place.

                        Fort Erie - Race #6
                        Picks Notes
#1 BETTABE SWIFT (5-1) Second to rival who got the jump on her, gets class relief, good value play.
#2 SPEEDY FIRE (5-2) Bid to clear lead and got caught, projects ideal stalking trip on the class drop.
#4 PENNIESFROMABOVE (4-1) Lightly-raced 6yo has been plagued by wide trips, often earns checks.
Race Summary BETTABE SWIFT followed the move of the 9-2 winner and finished second at 6F on a muddy track. She drops in for the lowest claiming price of her career and is worth a win and place bet at 5-1 on the morning line.

                        Fort Erie - Race #8
                        Picks Notes
#4 GIMBALA Back in her comfort zone, speed will be tested in more crowded field.
#1 DREAMINOFPASSION (4-1) Drew even with dueling leaders but lugged in through lane, proving costly.
#6 PINO IN A PURSE (3-1) Second in last three non-turf starts, gets pace to run at.
Race Summary There’s a reason GIMBALA is the only one in the field not entered for a claiming tag. She won her last three starts on the Fort Erie main track by a combined 11-1/4 lengths and has earned $40,000 this year. Her speed will be tested, but until proven otherwise, ride the streak. Bet to win and place and play a 4/1,6/ALL trifecta.

                              # 3 FREEDOM'S START 4/1

TURNS is my choice. Could best this field here, showing respectable figs of late. Well above average win clip at this distance/surface. Has to be given consideration - I like the figures from the last contest. NO RHYTHM - Formidable average Equibase Speed Figs in dirt sprint races make this pony a contender. This trainer has done solidly recently with entries travelling at this distance and surface. FREEDOM'S START - Have to look at solely on class, with some of the most favorable class figures of this group of horses. Displays formidable speed figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this group.
