Senior Jack Chambers looked like he was in over his head against Syracuse and Florida State, but the Hokies defense is not in the same league. Even without facing a ranked team this season, VT ranks 10th in the ACC in total defense. The Wolfpack rank 2nd behind Syracuse. The Hokies are 1-5 ATS in their last sux games following a bye week, and they are 0-5 ATS in their last five after covering in their previous game. Thursday CFB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Utah and Washington State at 10 pm et on Thursday.

Utah is coming off three consecutive 'over' results but with both the Utes and Washington State off their bye weeks, I look for a lower-scoring affair on Thursday night in Pullman. A lot of Utah's scoring has come while trailing over its last couple of games against UCLA and USC. The Utes did manage to rally for a wild 43-42 win over USC last time out but I'm not convinced it wants to get involved in another shootout here. Utah's defense has definitely sagged over the last couple of games but I still think this group is better than it has performed lately. It catches a favorable matchup here against a Washington State offense that has struggled for the most part, outside of a wild fourth quarter against Oregon back in late September. As a considerable underdog and having dropped three straight meetings in this series, I think the Cougars will be looking to churn out long, clock-eating drives in an effort to shorten this game on Thursday. Defensively, Washington State has been fine, again, outside of that wild fourth quarter against Oregon. Over their last three games, the Cougars yielded just seven touchdowns. Here, we'll note that the 'under' is a long-term 50-28 with Utah playing on the road off a home victory, as is the case here, resulting in an average total of just 49.1 points. Take the under.

I think the 0-5-2 Canucks continue to slide here vs. the 3-3-2 Kraken. Seattle is coming off its best game of the season, beating the Sabres 5-1. They're 2-2 in their last four games overall. The Canucks are banged up, especially on the backend. Vancouver is in the midst of the worst start in franchise history. Seattle went 0-4 vs. the Canucks last season, so now the improved Kraken get a chance for some minor revenge here; consider Seattle on Thursday night!
