1st race – (3) Funnybet (B) rallied five-wide for second and was claimed by Asmussen. Finds a winning spot here. (7) Ancient Brown might respond to a cutback in distance. (6) Aidanike drops in class and could wake up here. (4) Everyotherwon might hang around until the end in this field. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-7. Exactas: 3-7 over 4-6 and 4-6 over 3-7.
3rd race – (2) Silver Dust was second at a longer trip and should work out a winning trip here. (1) Bluegrass Parkway tries claimers here and may have a class edge. As has been the case in Victoria in recent weeks, we are set to be racing on rain-affected ground, with the track currently rated a Soft 6, while the rail out 9m for the entire circuit. As the meeting goes on, we expect jockeys to veer away from the rail and look to use the fresh ground out wide on the grandstand rail. The day of action kicks off at 1:30pm AEDT.

The Archie Alexander-trained Mr French thrashed his rivals in a 0-58 race at Geelong on November 13, and we anticipate he will go on with the job here. The four-year-old sat outside the leader throughout on that day, and when asked for an effort at the top of the straight, he quickened nicely and managed to put 4.5 lengths on the horse back in second. From barrier nine, look for Thomas Stockdale to have this bloke settled up on speed throughout. With race fitness on his side and a genuine tempo expected, Mr French should be bounding along out in front and proving too hard to run down in the second leg of the quaddie.

The three-year-old gelding has been unlucky at his past two starts when being forced to cover ground throughout and punching the breeze, but from barrier two on Thursday he gets his chance to gain an economical run in transit. He was beaten a lip at Sale two runs back; and when travelling four wide with no cover last time out at Pakenham, this son of Caravaggio did well to be beaten a tick over two lengths. The in-form Blake Shinn hops on board and will be given every chance throughout this maiden event. Armed with a strong turn of foot, we expect to see Silver Up claim gold in the opener.

From barrier 12 on Thursday, we expect it will be beneficial for those drawn out wide to run on, and if she repeats the effort she put in at Seymour, the $16 on offer with online betting sites looks a treat.

NSW provincial racing heads to Wyong on Thursday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program. We’re in for a terrific day of racing as the rail sits back in the true position and a Good 4 track is on the cards. The action gets underway from 1:15pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Edge Of Reward

Edge Of Reward finds a perfect race to break his maiden status on Thursday afternoon in the third event on the card. He steps back in trip from the 1400m last start at Newcastle on October 29 when beaten 0.2 lengths by Wrathful, who went on to win again, so the form looks very strong. The only reservation we have is his record this preparation continually running into seconds; he’s had plenty of excuses, whether it be barriers or lack of luck in running, but there shouldn’t be any on Thursday afternoon. With a perfect barrier four in a small field, it’ll be all about tactics for jockey Lee Magorrian. Edge Of Reward should ping the lids and look to be leading heading into the home turn, and with a fitness edge and a bit of class on his rivals, he should salute for Nathan Doyle and the team.

He travelled beautifully that day before letting down strongly but was no match for the winner, who had a class edge. This time, our guy is the class of the field. Josh Parr reunites with Diamond Drummer after being aboard for his first two starts of the preparation, and he will look to find a spot midfield with cover before utilising the horse’s strong turn of foot to get his first career win.

Forget he went around last start at Newcastle on November 12; he missed the start and hit the line well, but Floating destroyed all his rivals on that occasion. We’re more taken with his performance behind Tamerlane on November 1 at Randwick when he powered to the line; that horse has won again since, so the form looks quality for this BM64 contest. We get some nice weight relief in this class of field as well with apprentice Qin Yong getting Singapura down to 53.5kg with his 3kg claim. He gets a terrific barrier, to boot, and this clearly looks his best chance to bag his second career win.

Lightly raced gelding takes a realistic class drop to the restricted (nw-2) $16,000 claiming ranks and appears to have found his winning level. The Brian Koriner-trained sophomore has earned speed figures in each of his five career starts that are better than par for this level, and in a race that projects to have a moderate early pace the son of Curlin to Mischief should be comfortably placed on or near the lead throughout. An easy recent three furlong breeze five days ago should tick him over nicely, so at 3-1 on the morning line let’s use him on top in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics. Main contender 9-Sawasdee can be included to a lesser extent as a backup or a saver.

Top Pick: 2-Cute Khloe (5/2)

Didn’t receive any wagering action (30-1) in her debut but ran a winning race when a troubled second (off slowly, shuffled back inside on turn, beaten less than a length), in a similar straight maiden turf dash for fillies last month at Santa Anita. The daughter of Hard Spun seems likely to build on that favorable impression with three nice breezes in a healthy pattern since raced, so with good racing luck the Shelbe Ruis-trained juvenile seems capable of graduating while offering good value at or near her morning line of 5/2. For protection, you may choose to include Irish import 1-The Wild Gazer somewhere, though she seems pretty short at 6/5 on the morning line. Her form overseas is okay (not great), but she’s clearly faced tougher foes that today’s group and the Jeff Mullins barn generally does well with European imports.
