4* #863 UC Irvine Anteaters (+1.5) over Santa Clara Broncos —
There are some key advantages that UC Irvine holds in this game. They are one of the best teams in the nation shooting from beyond the arc, shooting over 40% as a team from deep. While taking on a Santa Clara team that has struggled to defend the deep ball.
UC Irvine is one of the top teams as well defensively, more specially in eFG% allowed and defensive rebounding %. That will also come into play seeing as Santa Clara has struggled to shoot effectively and efficiently, ranking 220th in eFG%.
Back to the basics, UC Irvine in more prepared seeing as they have played a noticeably harder schedule. They have a definitive depth advantage ranking inside the top 10 with 42.5% of their minutes coming from the bench, while Santa Clara’s bench is only producing 21% of their minutes. Plus, I would probably give the height advantage to Irvine. Santa Clara is the taller team on average across the board, but that is mainly because of the 2 starting guards for the Anteaters. They may be playing with 2 guards under 6-foot-2, but they man the paint with a 7-presence.
Both teams only have 3 losses, but Irvine is 6-1 ATS on the road, and Santa Clara has struggled to cover the spread.
