I'm looking for more than six goals to be scored here in a matchup of two bad defensive teams.
The Senators have scored at least three goals in seven of their last nine games. Montreal gives up 3.5 goals a game, ranking 23rd.
The Canadiens are averaging 3.4 goals during their last five games. Ottawa ranks 19th defensively giving up 3.2 goals a game.
Only once in the last five meetings between the two teams has the Under won.
The Canadiens have a long list of injuries but with Monahan out and Caulfield questionable, will have even more trouble scoring than usual. They are 26th in goals scored and 31st on the Power Play this year. Montembeault will be back in net for the first time since a monumentally poor effort vs the Canucks. He has fluctuated from excellent to poor when playing this season. Ottawa's net minder Talbot has been both dependable and good this season on an average Senators defensive team. Ottawa's strength is on their power play but they are missing one of their best point producers in Stutzle tonight.
We have seen more unders than overs from both of these teams lately. and with the added injuries on offense, anther low scoring game looks like a good bet. Look for a better effort from Montembeault and another solid effort from Talbot tonight. Take the total to go under.
