Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway begins the week with a 9-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and the sequence will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

1-Jack's Legend N (2-1)-Probably benefited with the sloppy track last week and now faces tougher. But has beaten better here in the past and with this post draw Bartlett could take control when the wings fold.
2-Family Recipe (7-1)-Was taken back from the 7-hole after winning on the engine from the inside and closed like a rocket in 55.2 to finish 2nd. This is a spot where the Morgan trainee will be used off the gate and usually races well with an inside post draw.
5-Nandolo N (5/2)-Comes off a very impressive win against this kind and did it all on his own. Grinded out a 1st over trip and beat the horse who was racing on the rail.

Race 7

1-The Regulator (7/2)-Made every call a winning one last week and will look for the same game plan here. Dug in late and should be tough in this spot. Willing to fade #7 (3-1) who is seeking his 5th straight picture.
5-Seth Hanover (7-1)-Started from the rail and made a rare break at the start but did pace the 2nd half in .55 to earn a 4th place check. Should get away closer to the top and could benefit from a lively pace.

Race 8

1-Lyons Johnny JNR (9/5)-Beaten 4/5 favorite didn't look as sharp as the race odds would indicate but did miss a start. Should be better with this post draw and this is probably a softer field than last week.
2-Play The Field (9-1)-Didn't show much in the last 2 but gets some needed post relief. Could get a suck-around trip and surprise at a solid price.

Race 9

3-Juddy Douglas A (6-1)-Drops to a more comfortable level and should be forwardly placed throughout. This will be the 4th start on Lasix and could connect for the 1st win at YR (0-3) with a sharp steer from Kakaley.
4-Saranac Blue Chip (2-1)-Not loving the short price but has been close versus this kind. Has the gate speed to land on the point and Gingras will probably try to make that trip work for a picture.
6-Macheasy A (15-1)-Recent form is sharp and the driver change to Stratton could help post a win. Came the back half in .56 in last and there should be solid fractions to help the cause.

Race Summary DISCREET TIGER, a steady check-getter and $100k earner, has tactical speed and can use it well from an outside post in this spot. Medellin guided him to victory the last time he was aboard despite being carried 4-wide on the first turn at 6-1/2F. Play 6-1 and 6-2 exactas.

#1 GUITAR BOY (5-2) Visually impressive maiden win, factored until stretch in follow-up stakes try.
#6 WILD ON ICE (3-1) Spotted field as debut fave, gained quickly inside, survived stretch duel in 4-path.
#5 DECORATION DAY (3-1) Has done little wrong in two starts for high-percentage allowance barn.
Race Summary GUITAR BOY dueled from the start to mid-stretch, then hit another gear to pull away from trip-sitter and next-out winner MALMO when he broke his maiden at this distance in October. He was well-backed in the Zia Park Juvenile Stakes off that effort but faded and drifted in the stretch at 6F. Like his chances if he can avoid a duel from the rail. Bet to win and place.

Race Summary ARRANGED VOWS rallied from just off the pace for back-to-back 5-1/2F wins off similar rest. She vied for the lead and gave way after the winning favorite passed by under these conditions last out. She gets the call in a wide-open race to improve to 5-for-10 on the year. Bet to win and place.
