SMOOTH RICO - Don't often see a profitable ROI like +34. This jockey/trainer twosome has done well together over the last twelve months. Rode this animal on November 27th and Morelos is back again in the irons this time. Gonzalez drops him down to this class level. You don't need too much more from the horse's history to think this horse should run well at this level. MIDNIGHT GETAWAY - This horse coming off a good race in the last month is a win candidate in my opinion. I like the fact that this gelding's last speed figure, 63, is tops in this bunch. I normally play back maiden winners who were disqualified. COSMIC SPECULATION - I have to like this gelding's chances to win at the shorter trip. Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this horse is meeting an easier bunch than last race out at Gulfstream Park. Ranks uppermost in earnings per start. A dominant performance today can augment that bankroll. 'Blinkers On' is a time-honored positive angle in handicapping the races.

FIELDSTONE - All systems look good for this gelding. Last prep, 2nd fastest of the day, shows he's fit and ready. I like the fact that this gelding's last speed fig, 86, is tops in this bunch. The ROI when Graham and Sharp partner up is good. SEEKING SPLENDOR - Trainer Silva moves this animal down in class to face a weaker class today. Look for a strong race at this level. I think Fair Grounds players know a good thing when they see the jockey/trainer tandem of Parker and Silva. Their win pct together has been positive. Look for this gelding to run much better in this event. Last event at Canterbury Park finishing 12th on the soft turf is no indication of his true ability.

WALK SOFTLY - Martinez has shown excellent profits (+10 ROI ) with horses in turf route events. Has to be considered a definite contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. PINK CHANNEL - Demonstrates the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 66 speed figure which is one of the most respectable in this group of animals.

Carolina is off a 4-1 home win over the Devils, but I think it'll have its hands full here on the road vs. the Pens. Carolina averages 2.94 GPG, while allowing 2.56. It returns home for a game vs. Philly tomorrow, so I think it'll get caught looking ahead to that much more winnable contest. That leaves the door open here for the Penguins to avenge a 3-2 loss to Carolina last week. Pittsburgh averages 3.44 GPG, while allowing 2.84 and I believe it's well worth a second look in this revenge spot and at this price in front of the home town crowd; consider the Penguins on Thursday!
