It's often difficult to know which team will be more motivated to play in a bowl game, but in this case it's pretty easy. We know that service academy teams always show up to play, while Baylor is coming off a disappointing season as defending BIG12 champions. Baylor's defense to a big step back this season, and they couldn't stop the run during a three game losing skid at the end of the season. We've already seen BYU lose outright to South Dakota as 12-point favorites and outright to Utah Valley State by 15 as 7-point favorites this year. Missouri has played the 347th-ranked schedule in the country to this point. Illinois has already played the likes of UCLA, Virginia, Syracuse, Maryland, Texas and Penn State. That difference in strength of schedule should have the Fighting Illini as bigger favorites here. Illinois beat Missouri 88-63 last season. I'll take my chances with the OVER 229 in Thursday's NBA matchup between the Wizards and Jazz. I think anything under 230 has to be a play on the OVER in this one. Utah is a team that finds themselves in a lot of high-scoring games. Jazz are T-5th in the NBA in offensive efficiency, they are 25th in defensive efficiency and play at a Top 15 pace. They should be able to dictate the temp in this one.
Utah is scoring 121.5 ppg at home this season. The average combined score in Jazz home games this season is 237.4 ppg. This is also a Utah team that has struggled on the defensive side of the ball. Utah is giving up 116.0 ppg on the season and have allowed 50% shooting over their last 5 games. I like both teams to at the very least get to 115 points. Give me the OVER 229!
