My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Sunday afternoon is with Under the Total in the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks. Philadelphia (19-12) has won seven games in a row after their 119-114 win against the Los Angeles Clippers as a 3.5-point favorite on Friday. The 76ers have played 26 of their last 41 games Under the Total after a win at home. They have also played 14 of their last 16 games Under the Total against teams with a winning record. New York (18-15) has lost two straight games after their 118-117 upset loss at home to Chicago as a 6-point favorite on Friday. The Knicks stay at home where they have played 5 of their last 7 games Under the Total. They have also played 6 of their last 8 games Under the Total against teams with a winning record. Chances are by now you have heard of how good NBA UNDERS have been on Christmas Day. It means something to play on Christmas Day to these players and it's one of the few times we get anything close to playoff level intensity during the regular-season, which is why we tend to get lower-scoring games.
It isn't something I'm as crazy about now as I was just a few years ago, simply because more public bettors have caught on and the books aren't setting quite as high of numbers. With that said, I do still think there's value with the UNDER in the early matchup between the Knicks and 76ers. The earlier the game, the more profitable the UNDERS have been. Games played at or before 4:00 EST have gone UNDER the total at a 65.6% clip dating back to 2005, compared to a 53.5% clips in games starting after 4:00 EST.
As for the actual matchup, the 76ers have been one of the best defensive teams over the last month or so of the season. They come in No. 2 in the league behind only the Cavs in defensive efficiency for the season. New York ranks 10th in that statistic and have really played much better on that side of the ball during their 8-2 run over their last 10 games. In this stretch, only twice has New York allowed their opponent to shoot better than 47% from the field, holding them to 43% or worse in 6 of the 10 games.
These two also played a game against each other back on Nov. 4th and the final score in that game saw a combined 210 points in a 106-104 Knicks win at Philly. I expect more of the same, with a good chance they don't even reach that mark. Give me the UNDER 217!

Creighton was picked to win the Big East Conference in the preseason coaches poll. The Bluejays, however, were on a six-game losing streak before beating Butler, 78-56, this past Thursday night.
I don't trust Creighton to cover this large of a number on this holiday special matchup. It's tough for any college team to play on Christmas Day. That randomness factor is a plus for the underdog. It's the first-ever Big East Conference game played on Christmas Day.
DePaul shouldn't lack energy, nor motivation. The Blue Demons haven't played since Dec. 17. They also have double revenge from last season.
