Georgia has been the standard bearer of college football for each of the last two seasons and comes into this matchup at 14-0 on the season after a thrilling 42-41 win over Ohio State in the CFP Semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Meanwhile, the upstart Horned Frogs get to this title game courtesy of a 51-45 win over #2 Michigan in the CFP Semifinal. Georgia has one mission! They will go to any length to defend their title. The TCU Horned Frogs were not supposed to be here. They were certainly dead and buried after losing the Big 12 Championship game to Kansas State and losing their improbably undefeated season. TCU was able beat Michigan without a dominant performance from Mac Duggan. Duggan was solid, finishing 14-of-29 for 225 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 57 yards on 15 carries. He did, however, throw two interceptions after having thrown four all season as the pressure got the best of him. Duggan got help from an opportunistic defense that had two pick-six interceptions in the game and survived a late surge from the Wolverines to pull out another thrilling win. TCU has given up 30 points per game over the last three games. They are 70th in college football in run defense, just 91st in pass defense and TCU is 59th in red zone defense. Their secondary is far from dominant but as they proved against Michigan, they can make big plays. Those big plays are the last thing the public remembers and will bet accordingly even tho it’s very doubtful the same thing will happen again. It’s the same thing that bettors are reminded of as Georgia barely squeaked by Ohio St. The public was reinforced with two games where the underdog covered with ease. The oddsmakers are aware of that and knew exactly what the point spread should be to attract those same gamblers. Georgia had to rally from two touchdown deficits in the game as they showed the same resiliency that they had last season after losing to Alabama in the SEC title game before rebounding to thump the Crimson Tide in the CFP Title game. They will pound the ball at TCU's 70th ranked ground defense and keep the defense a rested and fresh. The Bulldogs have the 15th ranked passing offense in college football and QB Bennett has proven his mettle over the past several weeks. The Bulldogs were the best team in the nation in the red zone on offense. The Bulldogs are #1 against the run, partially due to their dominance and partially due to teams trying to beat them through the air. As dominant as the Bulldog are in the red zone on offense, they are nearly as dominant on defense as they rank #2 in the country. The Bulldogs have the sixth highest scoring offense in the country and Bennett will certainly direct his team to 30+ points as he did in last year's title game. Bennett is tough and unrelenting. He will find the end zone early and often as well and celebrate that Georgia is able to win and cover. In this game, it’s almost impossible to find a clear advantage for TCU to hang with Georgia.
