Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway begins the week with a 10-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 gets underway in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

1-Family Recipe (5-1)-Likes to race near the top of the stack and should be placed there with this post draw. Can compete at this level, could be rolling fastest of all down the lane if Holland keeps in striking range.
3-Fortify (3-1)-Had 3 weeks off between starts but got in a nice tightener in at Fhld. Fits and has the gate speed to get a close-up seat and Brennan knows how to leave with a purpose. The Burke barn has been rolling to start the new year.
4-Take A Gamble (9/2)-Bako pupil had a big try from the 8-hole and a sharp win before the holiday break. Gingras sticks, will probably have the pedal down and look to wire the field. Steps-up but best to not overlook.

Race 8

2-(5/2)-Americanlightningn (5/2)-Has gone off as a favorite in the last 3 starts and has one win. Raced on 1-16 and faded down the lane but was off almost a month. Beware of the short price, steps-up but does good work at M1 (19-9-3-0). Could be sitting on a big try and might not be bet as hard.
3- Forever Fav (2-1)-Consistent check getter versus tougher has been racing well but doesn’t win often, (37-2-8-5) in 2022. Comes off a nice effort to finish 2nd and was idle for almost a month. It could be time for an overdue picture with a smooth trip.

Race 9

2-Seth Hanover (5-1)-Willing to toss the last start after being off close to a month and facing better. Drops to a comfortable level and has the speed to land on the point or get a pocket ride. Looks like a player and should be a solid price.
3-The Ideal Dancer A (5/2)-Raced from the back in a needed start at this level on 1-7 at M1, and flew home in 53.3 to just miss. Will bank on the connections knowing the turns won’t be an issue as this is its Yonkers debut.

Race 10

1-Delightful Terror (4-1)- Gingras is between the pipes, and he has done well in both starts on 12-13 and 12-20. Got in a tune up at M1 on 1-7 versus better and might be tight enough to win in the return to YR. Will need its best to score at this class but should get a trip.
2-Reigning Deo (5/2)-Similar to the one above but had 2 starts at the Big M and may have an edge on others who took a break. Could come off cover, and with honest fractions sweep by down the lane.
6-Sarnac Blue Chip (6-1)-Was in the hunt versus this kind before the Holidays. Got in a race here on 1-16 and went off at
81-1 and raced evenly. Knows how to win and with a sharp steer may have met a beatable field.

Mahoning Valley - Race #5

#2 Pretty Loud	I'd want a pretty decent price to land here, as he has some tables to turn and has not been a serious threat when landing underneath shares in recent starts, but he's kind of a grinder, and that might serve him well in a race where the two likely chalks might wear one another out early.
#9 Valhalla Air Base	He has been a good fit at this level and figures right up on the early splits with the dropper listed below, and he might be in the right spot to capitalize if that guy heads the wrong way in the lane.
#3 Top Hat Blitz	He's probably supposed to win this on the drop, but he was a sharp special weight winner early last year before the layoff, and the comeback was a pop and quick fade try -- now he's in for a cheap tag a month later? I don't know...
Race Summary	Pretty Loud gets a price call in a spot where forward players Valhalla Air Base and Top Hat Blitz both might need the lead for their best stuff. 'Loud is probably double digits with a bit of appeal from off the pace.

Mahoning Valley - Race #7

#6 Whiskey Sunrise	He's my second price player on the card, as it has been nice to see him find his form again in recent starts after the early signs were not very encouraging when he showed up at Mountaineer off the long layoff. He's obviously got some issues, but there are a handful of pace and pressing types lined up in here who might give him a decent pace to track. This price wasn't above his pay grade in the past.
#8 Chromed Impulse	He was competitive with local allowance company here last spring, and the even comeback run at Tampa should set him up for something better in this second start back. The one to beat.
#2 Not a Game	He's a good fit for a share in here, but I think he'll find one or two of them a bit too tough again today. Obvious exotics player with a chance to score if it all falls his way.
Race Summary	Whiskey Sunrise steps up in class for this one with improving form after a dull start to his winter campaign, and he might work out the right kind of trip while in touch early but not caught up on the pace.

Mahoning Valley - Race #8

#7 Exactitude	She showed little when bet to 2/1 in the comeback run here last month, but she has the layoff excuse there and tried stakes company in the two-back start. Fairly confident she'll show something better today.
#1 Queenie Rose	Riser just graduated from close range last time out and steps up to try winners, but most of the other serious pace is drawn further outside, so I wonder if she has a chance to have a go of it from the inside and try to get brave at a decent price.
#10 Birdie's Chantz	Maybe she's just going to stay off form for right now, but she was competitive with several in here last year, and I wonder if that slightly improved effort last time out might have been a hint that there's another move ahead?
Race Summary	I guess Exactitude still has to prove that his maiden win wasn't just a fluke on his page, but he went to the bench shortly after that stakes route try in which he pulled up, so I think he has some excuses for the flat last two lines.

#3 MISBEHAVED (5-1)	Earned $43k in five starts on dirt as 3yo, ran poorly recently, sheds 9 pounds.
#7 BIG BROWN SHOES (2-1)	Stablemate of top one, first-time tagged since 2021 maiden win, one to beat.
#8 CAUSES TROUBLE (8-1)	A win and two seconds since arriving at Parx, all as the favorite.
Race Summary	MISBEHAVED chased the second favorite and back-pedaled in a $16,000 claimer at Aqueduct dominated by deep-closing longshots. He lost all chance at the start in the race prior and appears an all-or-nothing type shipping into town and taking a class drop. His uncoupled stablemate, BIG BROWN SHOES, is clearly the one to beat. Play a 3-ALL exacta.

Parx - Race #8

#9 BURN THE EVIDENCE (5-1)	Can use his speed well in this spot, good value play in second start.
#6 MARVELOUSMOONDANCE (3-1)	Finished second in 5 of his last 8 starts going a route of ground.
#8 THREETHIRTYTHREE (10-1)	Jockey-trainer combo shows positive return from last 44 starters.
Race Summary	Taking a stand against morning-line favorite EXAGGERATEDDEFENCE, who was no match for a then 0-for-15 rival at Charles Town last out. Going with BURN THE EVIDENCE, who pressed a brisk pace in his debut, tired to finish third, now adds Lasix. Bet to win and place.

Parx - Race #10

#6 NO CONFESSION (6-1)	Romped to maiden win as first-time gelding for 19 percent ‘repeat’ barn.
#7 SHACKINTHEBOX (9-2)	Arrives in top form for sharp Maryland outfit, gets Lasix for the first time.
#2 DAYDREAMING BOY (3-1)	Second in 6F stakes two starts ago, back with own kind.
Race Summary	NO CONFESSION drew off under urging and was wrapped up late while the race favorite rallied for second. He raced as a gelding for the first time and can repeat at a good price if he duplicates that effort. Bet to win and place.

TOP HAT BLITZ - Likely to see a much stronger attempt with the drop. Exhibits the look of a profitable play, averaging a solid 59 speed rating which is one of the best in this group of horses in this race. STOP MAKING SENSE - Had one of the top Equibase Speed Figures of this field in his last competition.

EDDIE'S ON PATROL - This filly is almost always in the money. This thoroughbred coming off a solid try in the last 30 days is a contender in my opinion. I like the fact that this filly's last speed fig, 61, is tops in this field. Silva is hoping to get a little more out of this filly by adding blinkers today. TIZ THE PROSPECT - It looks like Vergara had to be in the know about this filly on December 20th when riding her for the initial time. Back on again today. Lone speed horses can be tough to run down. Here's a lone front runner facing sluggish sorts today. I always like to see a filly getting Lasix for the 2nd time. This one fits the bill. MISS WHISKEY - You'll be making money left and right by turning your betting money onto this jockey/conditioner combination. I like the fact that this 1st timer has been working over the same track she'll be making her debut on. The addition of Lasix might make this equine wake up and run very well in this race.

TOBY'S CANDY - Trying to beat this one this time out at the price of 6/1.

This is a free play on VT.
So Duke is 5-3 in the ACC, while Virginia Tech is 1-7 in conference play. The Hokies are coming off a 51-50 loss at Clemson, and five of their seven losses have come by five points or less. They are a solid 8-2 straight up at home, and they have won four of their last five home games versus Duke outright. The Blue Devils have failed to cover in five straight road games, and they are 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall. The Home team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings. I really wouldn't want to have to lay 2-3 points her with a team that tends to play so many close games. Gonna grab the home team on the ML.
