#6 Kislovodsk Think he's capable of something better than he showed last time out, and he's a better fit here with something more like the two-back effort. Better today.
#1 Conrad the Red He has never been this short, but he has also never been in for a tag and should appreciate this softer bunch. Wouldn't be shocked to see him land this on the drop.
#2 Celluloid Hero Forward player proved a good fit at the local level last time out, but I'm not sure he towers over these and might get a bit overbet.
Race Summary Kislovodsk has some appeal from a good spying spot in here, and I think he might offer a playable enough price as the likely third choice.

#4 Suit of Wands Think he's going to be tough while moving around two turns, as he has the pedigree for it and some positional pace that should keep him close enough early on.
#3 Anders Smile Forward player should be in line for a good trip pretty similar to the top choice, but I am a bit concerned about his habit of giving away ground late in his races.
#1 Allnight Moonlight Not willing to write him off around two turns just yet, but he's obviously going to need better than he showed in that route debut last out. Let's see.
Race Summary Suit of Wands has a right to be tough while stretching out here, and he should be able to get a good forward trip at a distance that can be friendly to those types.

Fair Grounds - Race #7
Picks Notes
#4 Ice Time He stepped up with a better effort at second asking, and he might get the right kind of finishing trip in here if he handles the new footing. Like him whether this stays on or not.
#5 Mo Saturdays He's better than he showed last time out, and he already has a decent turf running line to his credit. Wouldn't be a surprise from off the pace.
#6 Dual Monarchy He fits well with his top-choice stablemate, and he has shown a little versatility in his running style that may serve him well in here. Capable player on either footing.
Race Summary Ice Time might be a bit better price than his stablemate in here despite finishing ahead of him last time out, and I think he's a big threat here if he has another move forward in him.

Race Summary Save for a Claiming Crown stakes race, RED FLAG ALERT’S last three starts on conventional dirt were strong. He finished in the money each time going a route of ground, behind the likes of Go Emi, Man In The Can and Go For Sherrie, who are a combined 25-for-88 with $676k in earnings. He’s worth a win and place bet.

My selection in this event is SWOT ANALYSIS. Has formidable speed figs and has to be considered for a bet here. Casse has one of the top winning percentages in this group of horses in this race with entries running at this distance and surface. With Gutierrez aboard him, this horse will almost certainly be able to break out sharply in this race. JAX MAN - Graham has been scorching the last month, winning at a nifty 16 percent rate. YANKEE SEVEN - Have to look at solely on class, with some of the most favorable class figs of this group of animals. Has to be given consideration - I like the numbers from the last contest.

SIERRA DIAMOND - The most dangerous animal in racing is the lone speed horse. If they let her get away early they probably won't catch her. This mare is in nice condition. Finished first on January 4th. CONTENT - This mare's last speed figure recorded on Dec 6th is tops in last race speed ratings. Horse has improved at least 2 speed rating points in last two races. I look for that positive increase to continue in this event. SPICE IT UP - A mare like this one, almost always in-the-money, usually makes an excellent trifecta key horse. The December 19th clash at Mahoning Valley Race Cour was at a class level of (97). Dropping to a lower class rank drastically, so she should be in a good spot.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 SHELLEY'S GEM (ML=8/5), #4 AFERDITA (ML=5/2), #6 CEVICHE (ML=8/1),

SHELLEY'S GEM - Hasn't raced or had any workouts since January 9th. Not much value on this morning-line choice. AFERDITA - Not easy to play any less than sharp equine in a short distance event if she hasn't hit the board in a sprint in the last couple of months. Doubtful that the speed rating she notched on Dec 19th will hold up in this race. CEVICHE - The result of fifth in the last race shows me that this animal may be tailing off. Tough to like the downward spiraling flow (76/69/47) of speed figures. Garnered a quite unimpressive speed rating last time out in a $25,000 Optional Claiming race on Jan 4th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that rating.

The Equibase class figure of today's affair is much lower than her last contest. MINT JULIUS - Risk takers should note that this animal runs with second time Lasix today. The average class rating of 49 makes this entrant tough to beat.

HOME SCHOOL - Acosta rode this mount for the initial time last time around the track and comes right back in today's contest. I like that most recent effort on Jan 13th at Charles Town where he ran fourth. SECOND AND REED - This horse is in nice physical condition, having run a strong race on January 5th, finishing second. After the event aboard this equine on January 5th, the jockey is going to be in touch with the horse much better.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 STAR ATTITUDE (ML=9/5), #6 SARATOGA STRONG (ML=6/1), #3 PRACTICALLYMINE (ML=8/1),

STAR ATTITUDE - No value in betting on this entrant. Probably won't improve off that January 20th contest. Recorded a pedestrian speed figure last time out in a $40,000 Maiden Claiming race on January 20th. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that figure. SARATOGA STRONG - Finished third in his most recent race with a mediocre speed rating. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this field. PRACTICALLYMINE - Just can't bet on this questionable contender. Didn't show me anything last time around the track or on December 1st. Don't believe this less than sharp equine will make a winning move in today's event. That last speed figure was common when compared with today's class rating.

This line is adjusted too much for the Memphis Grizzlies playing the second of a back-to-back. They had two days off prior to losing to the Blazers last night, which is going to have them pissed off and coming back more hungry. They are one of the deepest teams in the NBA so they can handle these situations better than most. And with this game being on TNT tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if none of their stars rest wanting to play on National TV. The Cavaliers are just 3-5 SU in their last eight games overall. They will be playing their fifth game in eight days, so it's not like they are that much more rested than the Grizzlies. Memphis is 14-2 ATS in its last 16 games against Central Division teams. Give me the Grizzlies.

Thursday CBB Free play. My selection is on the 'over' between Oregon State and Arizona State at 8 pm et on Thursday.
The first meeting between these two teams this season totalled 143 points and saw a closing total of 131.5 points. Yet here we are working with a total in the high-120's (at the time of writing). That has a lot to do with the fact that Oregon State enters this contest on the heels of four straight 'under' results. I believe the total will prove too low here, however. The Beavers have been scuffing their heels offensively but there's reason to believe they can bounce back in this spot, noting that Arizona State has proven vulnerable defensively, allowing seven of its last eight opponents to knock down at least 24 field goals. In fact, the 'over' is 6-1-1 in the Sun Devils last eight games overall. Like Oregon State, Arizona State is also coming off a poor shooting effort last time out. We're talking about a Sun Devils team that has gotten off 63 or more field goal attempts in four of their last seven games though. I expect to see them push the pace here off four consecutive losses, and ultimately push this one well north of the very reasonably-priced total. Take the over.

If you don't mind laying some chalk, I believe that the Mavericks are worth the price on the moneyline to win this game straight up. Dallas is just 4-6 in its last ten. It's coming off a 111-105 win over Detroit and I like the Mavs to keep the momentum rolling here. After this Dallas hits the road for five straight, putting added importance onto this contest. New Orleans is off nine straight SU losses. The Pels are in a "free fall" and I don't see them "flipping a switch" here on the road. Consider the Mavs on the moneyline option!
