Unreal opportunity here for Utah Valley and I think the Wolverines cash in.


For starters, this game is listed “Utah Valley at Cincinnati” because Cincinnati is the highest remaining seed but there's work being done on the floor of Fifth Third Arena so, because Cincinnati doesn't have an available home court, this game will be in Orem, Utah and a home game for UVU.


I made it down to Cincinnati and got a chance to see the Bearcats play earlier this season and Cincinnati confirmed in that game what I already thought and that's that Cincinnati is a very average team.


Cincinnati does a GREAT job of beating up on teams worse than them, they ran through the dregs of the AAC and managed an 11-7 record that gives this Bearcats team a profile that's better than it should be.


Cincinnati didn't beat a single good team in 2023, the Bearcats lost both to Houston and Memphis and their only decent conference win, a win over Tulane, came at home and it came way back on December 29th.


Cincinnati has also had it easy in the NIT, the Bearcats won a home game against Virginia Tech as a decent favorite then beat a Hofstra team that had just upset Rutgers, both of which were very winnable games.


Utah Valley is a VERY GOOD TEAM. Utah Valley would have been in the NCAA Tournament if not for an inexplicable collapse against Southern Utah but has taken full advantage of this opportunity with road wins in EXTREMELY difficult places to play at New Mexico and Colorado. Utah Valley now gets to play in front of what will be a sell out crowd in a building where the Wolverines are 13-1 this season.


Utah Valley won a high profile home game last season against BYU. UVU also beat BYU and Oregon on the road earlier this season and nearly knocked off Wake Forest. Utah Valley leads the nation in blocked shots and Cincinnati won't get anything at the rim. We might see the rare NIT court storm when Utah Valley punches their ticket to Vegas here.
