MINT EDITION - A thoroughbred coming back this soon after a sharp race is a good omen. At the top of the stretch is when this one will make a solid kick. A wonderful chance to win this race. I like this mare. Has the highest earnings per start (EPS) in this one. INTO TOURING - Running 1 mile on the turf, you've have to look at horse's turf figures. This horse has the tops in the bunch. Don't often see a favorable ROI like +275. This rider/trainer tandem has done well together over the last 12 months. MUSICAL ROMANCE (GB) - In this race here, this horse has clearly shown signs that she likes the turf. Her speed ratings are the highest in the field for this distance-surface. Taking a trip to a lower class level; has the class to make her presence felt. This horse has the class to win the race. A tactical ride by Saez, and this one could bound home the winner. BUILT DIFFERENT - I like that latest effort on Mar 8th at Gulfstream Park where she ended up second. I like the fact that this filly's last speed figure, 79, is tops in this bunch.

ZISISIT (IRE) - This racer didn't race too well last time out of the box finishing fourth. No reason to expect any improvement in today's race. The speed rating last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this horse as a questionable challenger. BALL GOWN - Didn't hit the board on Jan 18th at Gulfstream Park. Followed it up with another lackluster try.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - MUSICAL ROMANCE (GB) - Falcone has superb win record with horses running a route on the turf. This filly cannot be overlooked in your gambling.

Looks solid for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid numbers in turf sprint races recently. GRAND OAK (IRE) - May wake up with Lasix change (with second time Lasix) today. Looks to have a competitive class edge based on the most recent company kept. KERRY - Very good shot today on Lasix. Recently Clement has provided wagerers with a respectable winning percentage with horses travelling in turf sprint races.

BOUNTY OF GOLD - I expect this race horse to bewilder some fans this time out. TIMBERLAKE GAGE - Hernandez rode this horse for the initial time last time out and comes right back in today's contest. When Baze gives Hernandez a leg up on any steed, you sense that with their win pct you have more than a fighting chance. This mare is in fine form, having run a strong race on Mar 4th, finishing third. BIG BLUE NOTE - I think the shorter distance will help this mare stay the trip. Her win on January 18th in a $4,500 Claiming race, at 4 1/2 furlongs, is a big plus for this mare. This jockey and trainer's animals have been producing a lucrative ROI. Recent Equibase speed figs show strong pattern of improvement. Coming off a fifth place finish at Turf Paradise, some may skip this horse. I'm not. She just missed hitting the show spot, and has decent M/L odds today.

MISS AGGIE BLING - The morning-line choice is shaky here with the lack of works. Going to have a difficult go of it with all the speedballs in this event. MADIGAN SQUEEZE - It appears like too much zip is signed up in this event. This speedball will likely get baked on the front end.

Gulfstream Park Race 4: 1 Mile. (Turf) F.Clm 35000n2L

#2 Musical Romance (8/1) – This filly was favored vs tougher in her last turf start and ran a good 3rd closing into a slow pace. She flopped on the synthetic last time, but the Conductor is ignoring that effort. They switch her back to turf today and she faces her weakest competition to date. She looks to get a favorable trip on the inside and up close to a slow pace. Saez sticking aboard after a poor effort last time is a positive sign too.
Gulfstream Park Race 7: 6 Furlongs. F.SAlw 54000n1x

The Mrs (3/1) – 5/2 would be more than fair on this filly. She’s paired up two races in a row that likely beat this field and she cuts back a furlong to her best distance. She draws well to the outside and will get the jump on the favorite #1 Charlie’s Wish (2/1).

Hong Kong Preview: Campione set for successful dirt return

Don’t be surprised if recent form goes out the window in the Tung Wan Handicap at Sha Tin on Wednesday.

The midweek raceday in Hong Kong this week is on the Sha Tin dirt (confusingly named "all-weather" in Hong Kong, though it’s actually a true dirt track), and as many of the runners have been on turf most recently, it’s difficult to know how relevant the form is.

The best guide to Hong Kong dirt races is almost always previous dirt races, and the two horses that appear to stand out in this Class 2 1,200-meter (about six-furlong) trip are #3 Campione and #7 Super Win Dragon.

Campione has had an interesting career in Hong Kong. A Group 3 winner in Italy as a juvenile when known as Windstormblack, he’s won three times in Hong Kong. He’s mixed his racing between turf and dirt, but his dirt record is 4-2-1-0, showing he clearly relishes the track.

The Brazen Beau gelding’s last three starts have been in either Class 1 or Group 3 company on turf, none of which produced anything better than seventh. But his most recent dirt start produced a second-place finish in Class 2 Dec. 4, and it’s this form that I’d follow.

Victorious that day was Super Win Dragon, who was recording his third consecutive win. However, he was receiving 10 pounds from Campione that day, and though the weight difference in the book is 11 pounds this time, Campione will get the benefit of a seven-pound apprentice allowance from Angus Chung, who has won 22 times already this season.

Since that race, Super Win Dragon hasn’t scored in three starts, but one was on turf and the most recent was over 1,650 meters (about 1 mile, 40 yards), a trip which appears beyond him. Nearly all his best form is at 1,200 meters.

The best horse on dirt outside those two is probably #4 Ka Ying Master, an honest dirt performer who should be included in exotics.

The most interesting of the dirt newcomers are #1 Computer Patch and #2 Nervous Witness. The former was runner-up to Wellington at Group 1 level last season but doesn’t seem to be quite as good as a six-year-old; he did run on sand in Korea in September for a fifth placing, which isn’t that encouraging for this.

Nervous Witness scored a Group 3 second-place finish last season and was third to Duke Wai and Courier Wonder at his last start (ahead of Campione). If he can replicate that on dirt for Zac Purton he’s a great chance, and a trial win on the dirt March 17 was encouraging.
