Al Cimaglia: Running Aces Late Pick 4 Analysis

Running Aces has a 10-race program set to go with the feature coming in Race 6, a Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace with a $18,500 purse. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7. The sequence has a $3,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

2-King Of Aces (8/5)-Plano had this 3-year-old in gear in last and paced the back half in 56.1 to just get up in time. That was the 1st race since 9-17 and could be even better tonight. The rail horse is 9/5 in the program, this will be 1st start on Lasix and will use the morning line choice as a single.

Race 8

1-Always Choose Chip (3-1)-Was in too tough against Open Handicap company and should protect the rail here. Jenson could be tough catch racing on the engine and might be a well-rated mile away from a picture.
3-Hottieonthehorizon (4-1)-The Lancaster entry comes off a nice win, does step up but should compete well with this group. The veteran mare does good work at Aces (39-15-10-7). Plano should be racing near the top of stack and be within striking range at the head of the lane.

Race 9

4-Princessofdawn (3-1)-Landed in a tough spot in the 1st race since shipping in from CalX. Warren gets the nod and that is a positive driver change. Should fit better versus this crew and be forwardly placed from the start.
6-Brooklyn Moonshine (6-1)-Has been used off the gate in both local starts the last was on an off track. Faded last week and doesn't show a win in 23 tries on a wet surface. Drops and will look for a big effort at a square price.

Race 10

9-Doubleontherocks (3-1)-Beat the $5k claimers last week in a strong mile. The post makes the price and has enough gate speed to land in a decent seat. Plano could look to make a move after the quarter pole, land on the point and take control of the mile. The Plano barn has been posting 30% winners over the last 30 days and this mare could take another picture.

Evangeline Downs - Race #6

#8 Mean Dreamer	The barn has done decent work with this kind of sprinter in recent years, and they've connected at decent prices along the way. Get a look at her ahead of this one, but I think she might be ready to go with a steady series of works to her credit.
#4 Highway Sixty One	She's another firster from a capable barn, but I worry she's going to get overbet in a spot like this based on the connections. Not sure there's a whole lot for the new faces to be afraid of today.
#6 Last Penalty	She's back in with claiming company after trying better in her first two local tries, but her career debut at Fair Grounds fits well here and becomes interesting if she can get back to it on the drop.
Race Summary	#10 California Belle is a logical player to consider if you have opinions elsewhere, but she's getting short on excuses at this point in time. Mean Dreamer could be ready to fire first out for a team that does a good job spotting them locally like this.

Evangeline Downs - Race #7

#5 Be a Bandit	She has some appeal on the move back around one turn, as she couldn't quite stay going long last out but turned in some solid recent sprint efforts on the main. Tactical type with cutback pace might trip out here.
#8 Country Lady	She draws well to prompt the speed from the outside, and I like her best of the horses I expect to be right in the early battle. Think she's a tough player today on class and form.
#7 My Kiki	She has a little ability to press the speed and finish, and that might help her land a first-over trip that would keep her in the picture here at a price. Hoping she'll rate just a tiny bit.
Race Summary	Be a Bandit has some proving to do on class today, but I think the race might set up really well for her while turning back with these. Worth a look.

Evangeline Downs - Race #8

#3 Runaway Jim	The cutback might work in his favor after he made a nice move into the pace before flattening out in his first try at the level. He should be in the right kind of spot turning for home, and the price might be a bit more attractive than the 5/2 offering from that last try.
#7 Roll on Out	Almost had him on top, as he looks like some of the most committed pace in here, and his overall form suggests he can probably press just a touch if someone else wants to go. Think he's supposed to be right there with this group.
#12 Awesome Cajun	He owns a few running lines that would make short work of these, but I'm not super enthused about the general direction of his form, and I wouldn't want to be here at any kind of short price.
Race Summary	Roll on Out seems the most likely winner in here, but Runaway Jim is a pretty solid alternative at what should be a mid-range price -- hoping he'll sustain his move better at this shorter trip.

Race Summary	LOOKINGFORTREASURE shows an eight-month gap in her work tab, but she has kept busy the last two months for a barn that is 3-for-10 recently with debut maiden claimers. Not crazy about those that have run, so give her the nod with a win and place bet and play a 4-6-8 exacta box.

Woodbine - Race #3

#2 SILVER BULLET LADY (2-1)	Good tune-up, good turf company lines, good bet in weak field.
#4 KNOW HOW (4-1)	Has loyal following, bid 5-wide to lead at 16th pole before closers arrived in latest.
#7 UNABLE (3-1)	Can use her speed well from the outside post if she handles surface switch.
Race Summary	The field is a combined 29/1-2-4 on the turf, so SILVER BULLET LADY stands out. She chased the unchallenged leader and ran second in her seasonal debut on the main track and met the likes of stakes-placed Stormy Silence (2-3, $95k) and repeat winner Miss Brentwood (2-7, $73k) in her prior two turf sprints. Bet to win and place.

Woodbine - Race #4

#2 HONEY WON’T (3-1)	Steadied along on backside, awaited room, good finish but didn’t factor.
#4 COMBATIVE (8-1)	Solid numbers, useful return, but hasn’t won in the last 18 months.
#5 SAILOR’S PASSION (5-2	Benefited from fast pace, furious rally into photo-finish view.
Race Summary	HONEY WON’T lost valuable momentum on the backstretch, lacked running room on the turn and finished willingly as the beaten favorite. Expect a better outcome at a distance which he romped two back. Bet to win and place.

4th race – (1) Gentle Soul exits graded stakes company and gets a big edge breaking from the rail. (6) Kentucky Ghost gets some class relief here. (8) English Bee fits in nicely here. 1^st race [NY, Md 30000, 7F] – (4) Ukrainian Princess (B) was second best last time in a $40,000 claimer behind the winner who came back to finish first in her next start. (5) Bon Adieu will drop into the claiming ranks for the first time and has a second two races back. (1) Mischief Motion did not like the grass last time but finished second on the main track in her prior start. 8) Power and Glory will drop back to maiden claiming where last she was third behind two horses that won their next starts. Her low-profile trainer has won at big odds in the past.
2^nd race [Alw 95000 N1X, 1 3/8 mi TURF] – (4) Union Dolly had two strong races since a layoff where she won a starter allowance and then was second by a nose in an allowance. She is projected to get loose on the lead. (1) Anatolian ran fourth in her 2023 debut for Mike Maker in an allowance on the main track in what seems like a prep for her return to the turf where she broke her maiden. (2) Ever Summer will make her first start of the year and gets blinkers on. She won a maiden special weight at Delaware Park. (6) Rheaume ran second four times last year after a debut maiden win and was moved to the barn of Christophe Clement.
3^rd race [Alw 50000s, 1 1/16 mi] – (3) Sa Foradada (C) changes to the barn of Rick Dutrow after a layoff from January when she was second at this level after getting bet down from 7-1 to 5-1. (4) She Caught My Eye (B) will make her third start following a layoff. Last time she reacted badly to heavy kickback but rallied for third once she got clear. (5) Chaysenbryn was a winner of an open $20,000 claimer at Belmont Park where she has two of her victories. (2) La Aguililla moved back to the main track last time and was a competitive fourth.
6^th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 1/8 mi TURF] – (7) Sperss (D) moved to the turf, dropped down in class, and finished fourth when bet down from 18-1 to 14-1. (6) Starts Now made her first start of the year, just missed the win by a neck in a similar spot, and gets first-time Lasix. (5) Arisaema was third last time earning the best speed figure of her career. (1) Silent Melody was fourth in her debut for a trainer that wins with 26% of his second-time runners.
