One of our favorite angles is in play here as San Diego lost the 1st game of the Home Stand after a long East Coast road trip. We love backing the Home Team in Game 2. We also love this pitching match up as Drew Smyly goes for the Cubs. Smyly has pitched over his head for most of this season and I believe it’s about to go the other way. In his last start he didn’t make it out of the 5th inning allowing 5 runs. He only had 2 strikeouts signaling he wasn’t fooling anyone. San Diego will counter with Yu Darvish who has faced the Cubs 4 times in his career posting an ERA of 2.10 and a WHIP of 0.89. Darvish is coming off his worst start of the year but history has shown he bounces back with a big effort. Going back to last April when Darvish has a game where he allowed 5 or more runs he has bounced back with an absolute gem. He has allowed 5 runs or more 4 times in the last 2 years.
