by Jeff Siegel, 1stbet.com Handicapper & Analyst

    Grade Descriptions:
    Grade A=Highest degree of confidence
    Grade B=Solid Play.
    Grade C=Least preferred or pass
Grade X=probable winner but likely at odds too short to play

    __________________________________________________ ____________________________
    RACE 1: Post: 1:00 PT Grade: B
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 6-Sakura Flavor; 7-Irish Rose
    Backups/savers: none.

Forecast: Sakura Flower produced a significant forward move when a willing runner-up at 32-1 against a similar group of older maiden fillies and mares last month and today gets an extra furlong to work with while seeking her diploma in her fourth career start. The Irish-bred daughter of Kingman appears to have considerably more upside than the others in the field, so with the switch to good grass rider Umberto Rispoli she will offer solid gambling value at or near her morning line of 5/2. Irish Rose displayed promise in her debut when finishing with good energy to be second in a useful turf sprint in February. Two subsequent outings over the local lawn failed to produce any kind of improvement but the Neil Drysdale-trained daughter of Irish Surf should be capable of stepping forward in her first try over a route of ground. She’s properly priced at 6-1 on the morning line and is a worth including in rolling exotic play.

    *

    RACE 2: Post: 1:30 PT Grade: B-
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 7-Run Snappy; 4-Arrest
    Backups/savers: 2-Big Splash.

Forecast: We’ll go three-deep in the second race, an extended sprint for older $16,000 claimers. Run Snappy had a right to be a bit rusty when fading to be fifth in a tougher $32,000 restricted affair in his second start off a long layoff last month. The barn hits at a strong 22% with this angle and the son of Runhappy has a prior win this track, so in a field lacking in early zip he could get loose early and get brave late. Arrest is just one-for-15 in his career and is dropping two notches below his claim level after a pair lethargic runs, so the pattern isn’t healthy, but he has some back numbers that make him a threat and he is a perfect one-for-one at this extended sprint distance. Big Splash has the route-to-sprint angle that always intrigues us and a state-bred maiden special weight win over this dirt strip last year. He won’t have to improve much to be a factor, so we’ll toss him as a backup.

    *

    RACE 3: Post: 2:00 PT Grade: B-
Main ticket (in order of preference): 2-Myfavoritedaughter; 4-Jibber Jabber
    Backups/savers: none.

Forecast: Myfavoritedaughter returns to her claim level ($32,000) for the first time in five races and should have every chance to regain her winning form from her favorable inside draw in this one mile turf event for fillies and mares. She has a prior win over this course and distance and speed figures that are quite competitive in this league, so let’s go with the Vladimir Cerin-trained mare, who will enjoy a significant break in the weights with the switch to good bug boy Aguilar. Even in a race that projects to have a modest early pace, the late-running daughter of Carpe Diem should be capable of tagging the leaders late. Jibber Jabber may lack a winning punch (she’s two-for-17) but usually gets at least a piece of it. Now in the Steve Knapp barn following a $25,000 claim, the Irish-bred mare figures to be in the second flight most of the way and then have dead aim when the pressure is turned on. Both should be included in rolling exotic play with Myfavoritedaughter slightly preferred on top.

    *

    RACE 4: Post: 2:33 PT Grade: X
Main ticket (in order of preference): 2-Adare Manor
    Backups/Savers: none.

Forecast: Adare Manor is listed at 2/5 on the morning line in this year’s renewal of the Santa Margarita S.-G2 for fillies and mares, and after winning with ease by almost five lengths in the Santa Maria S.-G2 in late April the Bob Baffert-trained daughter of Uncle Mo should go about her business in a similar manner. A four-time winner over the Santa Anita main track, she projects to enjoy an easy trip as the controlling speed as a logical rolling exotic single.

    *

    RACE 5: Post: 3:15 PT Grade: C+
Main ticket (in order of preference): 8-Touchdown Kittle; 3-Moon Ice
    Backups/savers: 12-Maxville.

Forecast: Touchdown Kittle was very well-meant in his debut but came up a head short while nearly four lengths clear of the rest when facing a similar band of state-bred maiden older horses over the local lawn last month. With that race behind him and at this slightly shorter trip, the son of Tiznow should have every chance to graduate in a race that projects to be slowly run early. Moon Ice seems certain to be prominent throughout from his favorable inside draw and actually owns a distinct edge on speed figures when compared to our top pick. He’s hit the board in five of six career starts but always has been suspect close home when put to pressure. This group could be within his range. Maxville, a respectable third in his debut after a slow start in the same race our top pick finished second in, certainly has room to improve and offers good long shot value at 12-1 on the morning line. Look for him to be doing his best work late.

    *

    RACE 6: Post: 4:27 PT Grade: C
Main ticket (in order of preference): 7-Pars and Birdies, 4-Twice Fooled; 14-San Jac.
    Backups/savers: none.

Forecast: Anything goes in this bottom-rung maiden claiming sprint for older horses. Best advice is to include as many as your budget allows. Pars and Birdies shows the route-to-sprint angle, adds blinkers for the first time, and gets a break in the weights with the switch to bug boy Aguilar. His third place finish at this level over this track and distance two runs back wasn’t bad, so we’ll put him on top at 8-1 on the morning line. Twice Fooled, in the frame in four of five career starts at Turf Paradise, may be competitive on this circuit, though Phoenix form often doesn’t translate well to the Big Leagues. His best speed figure puts him the picture against this group, untrustworthy as it might be. San Jac takes a significant class drop in his third career start, and it wouldn’t take much improvement for him to be a factor. The Tim Yakteen-trained gelding has enough early speed to get over from his extreme outside draw to press the pace, and from that position he may be able to do some damage. In a race that probably is best left alone, these are the three we’ll be using in rolling exotic single play, but deeper coverage is recommended for those who can afford it.

    *

    RACE 7: Post: 4:27 PT Grade: B-
Main ticket (in order of preference): 6-Paris Secret; 3-Pleasant Wave
    Backups/savers: 2-Commanche Country

Forecast: Paris Secret and Pleasant Wave finished one-two (pair well clear) in the Providencia Stakes over this course and distance in late April and both should be major players right back under identical conditions for 3-year-old fillies. The former had plenty of pace to set things up for her closing kick but may benefit from quicker-than-par early fractions once again. The latter improved a bunch at 19-1 in her fifth career start to miss by less than a length, and with another forward move today could make a serious run at 6-1 right back. Comanche Country was in a bit steep when unplaced in the Edgewood Stdakes-G2 at Churchill Downs last month but is solid on numbers, shows a prior win over the course, and should have dead aim from the quarter pole home.

    *

    RACE 8: Post: 5:25 PT Grade: C+
Main ticket (in order of preference): 5-Starship Defiant; 6-Sunshine Babe
    Backups/savers: 2-Ko Olina.

Forecast: Starship Defiant has finished first or second in nine of 15 starts over the Santa Anita main track and this genuine and consistent mare seems well-spotted for another big effort in this allowance optional claiming main track miler for state-bred fillies and mares. She just beat a similar field over this track and distance and is eligible right back due to being entered for the $40,000 tag. However, her winning rider, Kent Desormeaux, opts for Sunshine Babe, herself a winner (via a dead heat) under these conditions on grass last month and taking full advantage of the clause that allows her to return at the same level in a dirt affair. ‘Babe is the slightly faster of the two on numbers but ‘Defiant has the better form on the main track. Ko Olina, away since last September, has only one way to go and that’s on the front end for as long as she can stay there. The barn has had a slow year but generally does well with layoff runners and this daughter of Stanford could fire a reasonable shot fresh if not policed early. Toss her in as a saver.

    *

    RACE 9: Post: 5:55 PT Grade: B
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 4-Count of Amazonia; 8-Unconquerable Keen
    Backups/savers: none.

Forecast: Count of Amazonia is just 1-for-10 over the Santa Anita turf course but that victory three races back over this tricky downhill course was visually impressive and good enough if repeated today to handle this second level allowance optional claimer. He’ll get the patient ride he requires with the switch to the barn’s “go-to” jockey Kent Desormeaux, and after almost two months of freshening the Irish-bred gelding should be ready to regain his best form. Unconquerable Keen looked good beating a lesser field gate-to-wire over the flat course last month in his first outing since last July, and if he can build on that performance today he’ll be dangerous right back. The Phil D’Amato-trained gelding was a useful handicapper in Ireland prior to importation and with just nine career outings (three wins) he certainly has room for added development. We’ll use both in our rolling exotics and then press with extra tickets keying Count of Amazonia on top.

    *

    RACE 10: Post: 6:25 PT Grade: B
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 8-Ghazaaly; 9-Nineeleventurbo
    Backups/savers: none.

Forecast: Ghazaaly won’t ever live up to his $1 million-plus purchase price as a yearling but he still can be a useful performer at age five as he gains maturity and experience. Making just his eighth career start, the son of Curlin tries grass for the first time after posting a career top speed figure when handling a similar starter allowance field on dirt late last month with complete authority. This nine furlong trip should be well within his range, so if the Vladimir Cerin-trained horse can duplicate his main track form on grass he should have an excellent chance to score right back under bug boy Aguilar. Nineeleventurbo had his number taken down (bad call) when finishing first against similar last time out in an effort that produced a career top speed figure. He’d won his comeback outing earlier in May, so by all rights he should be undefeated (and clearly improved) during his six-year-old campaign. Both of those first place finishes were accomplisher over a mile, but he’s won at this trip in the past, so the added ground won’t be an issue. Hudson Ridge is poorly drawn outside but is a strong fit on numbers and continues to impress in the morning. A two-time winner over the local lawn, the son of American Pharoah projects to settle into a stalking position and have every chance from there.

Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Battle of Lake Erie Pick 4

      June 10, 2023 | By Al Cimaglia
Northfield Park has a 15-race card featuring their signature stake race the Battle of Lake Erie which rolls in Race 8. The headliner has a $200,000 purse and a quality lineup with six of the nine older pacers having lifetime earnings exceeding $1,000,000.

The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8. The sequence will have a $25,000 guaranteed pool with a very low 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

      Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

5-Ruthless Hanover (5/2)-This is a deep field and my play will be to use the two horses who have the best recent form. But and it could be a big but, they have never raced at Northfield. This 6-year-old can leave as fast as the gate car. Could be very difficult to collar if making the 1st turn isn't an issue.
6-Covered Bridge (4-1)-Winner of 3 straight comes off a strong win at London in the Camluck Final. Tyler Buter takes the lines. If the opening 3/8's is out of control this Gillis trainee could stalk and pick up the pieces down the lane.

      Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

3-Eye Ofa Tiger As (4-1)-Comes off a pair of even tries after two consecutive wins at this level. Has missed a start, and that has not happened in some time. Has a post edge on other contenders and will assume the 9-year-old will be dialed on high.
7-Rose Run Xtra (7/2)-Needs the right trip to win at this level. Wrenn could leave, land in a close-up seat and then look to rally off cover.
8-Flemsteen (5-1)-Winner of 2 in a row needs some racing luck with this post draw, but Merriman does work some magic at times. The price is right to take a swing and doesn't need to land on the point to take a picture.

      Race 13 (10:24 PM EST)

3-Ocean Music (9/2)-Had no chance last time with an equipment break at ScD and should fit nicely with this crew. Has the gate speed to land on the point and may not look back.
6-Violets Rainbow (7/2)-Makes the 2nd start for the Bako barn and had missed time before her last race at Yonkers. Looking for improvement and shouldn't feel out of place here. Could get good early position and be in the hunt at the wire.
9-She'sonebadmomma (4-1)-The Burke trainee can win if Page finds a way to get a close-up seat early on. The rail horse has some gate speed, and this 4-year-old has a nose for the wire.

      Race 14 (10:46 PM EST)

1-Official Treasurer (4-1)-This mare has hit the board in 44% of her 240 races at Nfld and has taken 34 pictures. Recent form has been dull but should have enough gate speed to race near the top of the stack. George Naps takes a spin, and he might be able to wake up this 10-year-old.
7-Molly Kool (10-1)-Makes the 2nd start for Rhoades, Merriman stays loyal and is 10-1 in the morning line. There is no standout in the field, actually every horse has issues at this level. Will respect connections and should be a nice price.
9-Chase The Ace (5/2)-After being claimed for $15k on 3-18 moved up and won. Then came 2nd in the next start and has fallen on hard times since. Not liking the short price and Davis Jr will need a very sharp steer. But despite the negatives it doesn't feel right to leave off the ticket.

      $1.00 Late Pick 4

      5,6/3,7,8/3,6,9/1,7,9
      Total Bet=$54

        Jeremy Plonk: Belmont All-Stakes Pick 5 | Saturday, June 10, 2023

        June 10, 2023 | By Jeremy Plonk

Saturday’s Belmont Stakes Day card offers an ocean of multi-race wagering options. I’ll focus on the all-stakes pick 5 from races 8-12, anchored by the finale jewel in the Triple Crown – which also includes the pick 4 on the final quartet of those same races. Horseplayers at Xpressbet and 1/ST BET can take advantage of $20,000 in additional hit-and-split incentives on key multi-race wagers Friday and Saturday at Belmont.

        Belmont | Race 8 | Woody Stephens
#4 General Jim gets a great pace set-up for his determined style of finishing the deal. There’s a major speed duel looming here with a 7-furlong trip that will expose several. #3 Arabian Lion should fall into a positive trip while turning back in distance and likely letting some of the speed work itself out in front of him.

        Belmont | Race 9 | Jaipur
When 14 turf sprinters meet, it’s reasonable to think anything can happen. But #12 Caravel has won 4 straight on the front end, besting 43 rivals in the process. This is just another test for her, but the ledger makes no bones about her ability to pass it. The X-factor and potential price is sharp European export sprinter #5 Dr Zempf. Love the post draw here and he exits a super-live race in the Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland, where he simply ran out of gas when blitzed in the lane by rising stars Chez Pierre and Up to the Mark, as well as international superstar Modern Games. None of those types in here. Dr Zempf was a top-class sprinter overseas and finally gets to go short in the US.

        Belmont | Race 10 | Metropolitan Handicap
Odds-on favorite #1 Cody’s Wish has won 6 in a row and merits much respect. The rail can be a tricky draw for his late-running style and he’ll have to give 4-7 pounds in the handicap provisions. Maybe, just maybe, this is the day to beat him. Four-year-olds have won the Met Mile 11 straight years and that perked my interest when unearthing that stat. While several 4-year-olds are entered, it is #6 Zandon and #9 White Abarrio that interest me most. Both were Grade 1 winners on the Triple Crown trail last year and have shown some propensity for 1-turn success.

        Belmont | Race 11 | Manhattan
#8 Up to the Mark was so visually impressive in winning the Kentucky Derby Day counterpart race to this in flashy fashion. He should extend an extra furlong and handle business here as a trustworthy favorite. The public probably will use Charlie Appleby’s shippers in here defensively, so there could be value in just singling the right player. That’s Up to the Mark to this eye.

        Belmont | Race 12 | Belmont 155
I’m standing against Forte off the layoff of more than two months and will swing with a trio of contenders. Top pick #8 Angel of Empire is the most reliable runner in the bunch and never loses ground in the stretch. His Brad Cox stablemate #7 Hit Show ran better-than-it-looks in the Derby and should offer a good price. And #2 Tapit Trice has had the look of a Belmont player since Tampa in March.

        The Tickets
        Pick 5 (begins Race 8): 4,3 with 12,5 with 6,9,1 with 8 with 8,7,2 = $18 for $.50 play
        Pick 4 (begins Race 9): 12,5 with 6,9,1 with 8 with 8,7,2 = $9 for $.50 play

          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

          Santa Anita - Race #7
#2 Comanche Country She didn't pick up much in the Churchill trip last out, but her two worst races in North America have come when she ventured away from California, and she has been a tough customer on the local circuit. Bounce back potential.
#1 Broadway Girls The big question for her is likely whether #7 Fast and Shiny will leave her alone a bit in the early stages, but I think she's worth a bit of a look at a better price than she offered last time around. Pace danger with her best.
#4 Selenaia Not much to argue with about the turf form on paper, but the graduation run and allowance score came at Meadowlands and Horseshoe Indianapolis, so I think it's fair to wonder how she's going to class up here. High-ceiling talent can still be anything, but I think she has proving to do.
Race Summary Comanche Country has a little class to her and has been tough when racing in the state, and it wouldn't be any surprise to see her back to her best today. Solid lean.
          Santa Anita - Race #9
#1 Goliad Class dropper might get a good run from the inside, as he might get covered up by some other pace and punch on late. Mid-range price chance.
#8 Unconquerable Keen Really like that he has shown some versatility in a couple of North American starts, and his comeback race last out was pretty sharp. Dangerous if he has some upside in the second start off the break.
#5 Harbored Memories He should get a good trip here with some reliable tactical pace, and there are some really tough customers in the company lines on his page. I'd want him on the tickets while expecting better today.
Race Summary Goliad might be at his very best on the lead, but there are a couple decent lines on his page from close range, and I'm hoping he can find a perfect spot just in behind the pace -- and he's capable of taking initiative if nobody else wants to.
          Santa Anita - Race #10
#11 Hudson Ridge Think he's a better fit here than he looks at first glance with several graded stakes-quality runners in the company lines, and Hernandez is easily the best local route rider for your dollar over the last couple years. Might find an ok spot from the outside.
#9 Nineeleventurbo Nothing wrong with the local form, and he has been a really good fit at this level in recent starts. Wonder if this is a slightly tougher test than the last couple.
#6 Explain This Audit He's not too far removed from some turf efforts that would be competitive here, and the addition of blinkers might help keep him in a perfect spot to spy the pace players.
Race Summary Hudson Ridge isn't meeting anyone like Country Grammer, Earls Rock or Opry in here, and that alone makes him a player on class after a useful effort against claimers last out. Think he's going to run a big one.

            Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

            Delaware Park - Race #2
#4 UNDERDOG (3-1) Hit board in 5 of last 8 short sprints, had good tune-up, projects ideal trip.
#2 NOTTOWAY (2-1) Takes the plunge, gets in light in seasonal debut off Ness re-claim.
#5 CLASSY SOLUTION (4-1) ‘Battled gamely’ to finish ahead of Underdog, changes address again.
Race Summary UNDERDOG bid 4-wide coming into the stretch and faltered in the final eighth of a mile as the odds-on favorite passed by. He could sit a perfect stalking trip in his second start locally after 3-1/2 months away. Bet to win and place.
            Delaware Park - Race #3
#5 ROMANTIC COMEDY (4-1) Can be excused for latest, wake-up candidate off prior turf race.
#2 ASTERS D’ORO (3-1) Has speed, proven $16k form and best turf numbers, wouldn’t expect 3-1.
#4 MORETHANASTORM (8-1) Set pace in longer grass route after seven months away.
Race Summary More than half the field is 2-for-20 or worse. ROMANTIC COMEDY, compromised by a slow start and wide trip on her return to the turf, at least has a good turf sprint to summon last fall. She rallied to beat Icy Reply (34/4-9-4, $151k), who recently won a $16,000 claimer and ran second in a $50,000 starter allowance at Belmont, albeit on the main track. Bet to win and place.
            Delaware Park - Race #6
#1 CITI CREEK (2-1) Chased the favorite, held second off three-month layoff for new connections.
#5 MY BIG DRAMA (8-1) Arrives from Tampa, cuts back in distance, barn good with these types.
#4 GET THEM DIGITS (6-1) Piled up the checks as a 3-year-old but was no match for ‘Citi’ in return.
Race Summary CITI CREEK bid 3-wide on the turn but couldn’t reach the 2-1 winner in his first start at this level. He goes an extra half-furlong today and may need only to duplicate that effort to win for his new connections. Bet to win and place and play 1-4 and 1-5 exactas.

COMMENTS: ELITE POWER has been crushing the competition lately and his workouts say he will be ready for another stellar effort. SYNTHESIS tied for the highest last race speed figure with a win and second in two at the distance. STROBE will look for a fast track where he has four wins and second in five races. TODAYS FLAVOR should be on the gas from go to photo and try to take them wire to wire.

COMMENTS: CHEZ PIERRE showed late race improvement in his last and is usually out of the gates fast too. EMARAATY has strong turf pedigree and can run swift fractions and still win. EMMANUEL will try to get forward and take the field gate to wire and is hard to pass if he has the lead into the stretch. FILO DI ARIANNA is making his second start after a layoff. His track record says to expect a more robust effort today.

COMMENTS: BRIGHT FUTURE has alternated between first and third place finishes. He finished third last out but has a tough trip, A better path today and the pattern could continue. NEXT has a bullet workout getting ready. When he wins it is usually by big margins. WARRANT really likes a fast track finishing in the money 14 of 15 races. LONE ROCK is normally a high end performer but fell off a lot in his last. A rebound is in order following some swift training sessions.

COMMENTS: CLAIRIERE never ran out of the money in 11 at the distance with six wins with four seconds and a third. SEARCH RESULTS runs her best when she is close to the lead and that is where she should be with this bunch. PASS THE CHAMPAGNE ran by far her best race in her first try at Belmont Park and might be better in her third start after a layoff. SECRET OATH is more than capable of winning here but the pace could work against her.

COMMENTS: DREWS GOLD is not lead dependent and can sit right of the pace and storm by at the end. GENERAL JIM is a closer and will have plenty of speed to chase here. ARABIAN LION needs the lead to win and will likely go out with NEW YORK THUNDER as inside speed. FEDERAL JUDGE ran faster times despite going a half furlong longer. That is usually a good sign for the next race too.

COMMENTS: This one is wide open for the taking. CARAVEL is a winning machine taking the tape in 11 of 18 on grass. ARREST ME RED has three wins with a second and third at the distance and should be in his comfort zone. BIG INVASION is making his second start after a layoff and upped his output in his pair of second up outings. CASA CREED usually gobbles up a lot of ground late. He might need close to a perfect trip in a deep field.

ZANDON has never run a bad race in his 10 starts . He just struggles to win. CHARGE IT won his only Belmont race by 23 lengths. Wow.

WARREN POINT missed as the three to five in his US debut but finished fifth. A couple of bullet works since say he will be better today. UP TO THE MARK has been consistent in his last four races. He will likely need to improve to beat the top two. ROCKEMPEROR usually ups his game in the second after a layoff.

COMMENTS: FORTE could be close to the front with this group and usually runs on by all of them at the end. ANGEL OF EMPIREs run in the Kentucky Derby was better than it looks with better fractions despite going longer. ARCANGELO ran an incredible late pace number in his last almost too good. TAPIT TRICE is another that should be closer to the front than usual here and has the late octane to get home first.

Keeneland Select Pick of the Day | June 10, 2023

                      Jun. 09, 2023

Race 9 at Belmont Park | Saturday June 10 | Post Time 4:19 PM Eastern
Jaipur Stakes – Grade 1 | Purse $400,000 | Six Furlongs on Turf | Three Year Olds and Upward
                      Main Contenders:
The race drew 14, with two also-eligibles, and more than half the field has strong credentials in similar turf sprint stakes so I wouldn’t argue with anyone who considered a horse not among the ones mentioned below as a contender.
That being said, Big Invasion (10) gets top billing and can post the mild upset opening at 6 to 1, and if he goes to post at those odds, or even as low as 3 to 1, it will be the highest odds he’s ever had in 10 career races. Until his last race, the Turf Sprint Stakes on Derby day, Big Invasion was the favorite in all nine races and was the odds-on favorite in five of those. He won seven of those nine races including five stakes races in a row between March, 2022 and last August, and one of those came on this course at Belmont when victorious in the Paradise Creek Stakes in May of 202. He finished third in his final start of 2022 then took six months off, once again winning a turf sprint stakes, the Silks Run in March, as if he had never been away from the races. Next came the Turf Sprint five weeks ago and that race can be TOTALLY IGNORED because of the traffic issues he encountered. Starting 10th of 14, Big Invasion was rallying full of run in mid-stretch when he got in very tight quarters and jockey Joel Rosario had to check him sharply to avoid falling, and in doing so losing any chance. He’s going to get a lot of pace to run at in this field with Nothing Better (9), Air Force Red (3) and a few others likely trying for the lead from the start, so with a good post like the seven in a nine horse field he had for the Silks Run, and with the Rosario aboard, who has been in the saddle for his last five wins, Big Invasion may be the one to beat in a very deep and talented field.
Casa Creed (11) won the 2021 Jaipur and did it again in 2022 and as he just missed by a head in the Turf Sprint Stakes in Saudi Arabia when last seen in February (the same race he finished second in the previous year), could do it again. Now having earned over $2 million, Casa Creed has also proven he really likes this course as he has won the last three times he’s raced over it. Luis Saez has been his regular rider since the winter of 202s and just like Big Invasion, Casa Creed should benefit from a hot early pace so be rolling into the thick of the action in the last eighth of a mile.
Caravel (12) is now 11 for 18 on grass after winning the Unbridled Sydney Stakes on Kentucky Oaks day last month. Prior to that she won the Grade 2 Shakertown Stakes and that win came five months after winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Both those wins were against males, so there’s no problem in moving from facing fillies and mares to the boys. Many of her wins, including her last three, have been earned leading from start to finish, but she’s smart and does not need the lead to win, as evidenced by her win from third early last fall in the Franklin Stakes and last summer at Saratoga. Tyler Gaffalione has been up for five of her last six wins including winning at this trip one year ago in the Intercontinental Stakes (at a mile). She opens as the 3 to 1 favorite and should go lower than that considering her recent record but even if she’s not as good a win bet as the other two top contenders, she must be used in the win position on exacta and trifecta tickets played.
For second position on exacta tickets, and for third position on trifecta tickets, in this full 14 horse field, we should consider Air Force Red (3), Ice Chocolat (6), Arrest Me Red (8) and Our Shot (16). Air Force Red has some early speed but can also sit second early and fits with these. Ice Chocolat ran the best race of his career four weeks ago when coming up three-quarters of a length short of winning a graded stakes and did the same in November. Arrest Me Red finished second in this race last year with Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding, who rides again. Our Shot ran the best race of his career last month and if he draws in from the also-eligible list could run well at high odds
                      Bets:
Win Bets: We should consider win bets on BOTH Big Invasion (10) and Casa Creed (11) at odds of 5 to 2 or more. The same minimum/fair odds of 5/2 apply to Caravel (12) but I would rather bet the two horses likely to off at the highest odds among the trio.
                      Exactas:
Box Big Invasion (10), Casa Creed (11), Caravel (12)
Big Invasion (10), Casa Creed (11), Caravel (12) over Big Invasion (10), Casa Creed (11), Caravel (12), Air Force Red (3), Ice Chocolat (6), Arrest Me Red (8), Our Shot (16)
                      Trifecta:
Big Invasion (10), Casa Creed (11), Caravel (12) over Big Invasion (10), Casa Creed (11), Caravel (12) over Big Invasion (10), Casa Creed (11), Caravel (12), Air Force Red (3), Ice Chocolat (6), Arrest Me Red (8), Our Shot (16)
