Laurel Park – 5th race: 6-Lady Ensign (7/2). Post time: 2:29 ET
Though a one-turn mile might be stretching her limit, this maiden sophomore filly clearly projects as the controlling speed, and if she can switch off early while on the front end she just might be able to wire the field. The blinkers that are being added should keep her straight and true – something that she’s had a hard time with in her first two starts – and though she has failed as the favorite in her both of her outings we’re willing to give the daughter of Midshipman one more chance based on the projected race flow. In a field lacking in effective closers, let’s gamble that she can get the trip while offering reasonable wagering value at 7/2 on the morning line.

Ellis Park – 5th race: 6-Promise Me a Ride (6-1). Post time: 1:45 CT
A $400,000 Keeneland 2-year-old in training purchase last year, this Brad Cox-trained sophomore won his debut like a real nice prospect, scoring handsomely in an off-the-turf route affair at Fair Grounds in mid-March. However, his next start was a disaster. After blowing his best chance at the start and pulling hard during the early stages, the son of Mastery faded out of the picture to finish far back in a stakes-quality allowance race on Derby Day at Churchill Downs, a poor outing that we’re willing to dismiss. Today, with the ever-popular blinkers off angle, he should return to form in his first try on grass (bred for it), so if he breaks cleanly and settles early he’s very likely to run back to his excellent debut score. One of the barn’s “go-to” riders takes the call, so everything has lined up nicely. Let’s make him a solid play in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics and hope to get close to his morning line of 6-1.

Pleasanton – 8th race: 9-Breakfast Ride (12-1). Post time: 5:25 PT
This is strictly a long shot play. Freshened since January, the son of Distorted Humor returns for trainer John Sadler (strong stats with layoff runners) in this year’s edition of the Pleasanton Mile following a series of impressive workouts at Santa Anita that should have him plenty tight and ready. A good fit at this level on speed figures and with the versatility to win on the lead or from a second flight, stalking position, the 4-year-old colt projects to settle just off the leaders outside (always the best part of this main track) during the early stages then have dead aim and every chance from the quarter pole home under Southern California-based jockey Edwin Maldonado. He is listed at 12-1 on the morning line and should be every bit of that at post time. We’ll take a shot in a tough, competitive event.

Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

Northfield Park has a 15-race program with the headliners being 2-year-old Ohio breds competing in Sires Stakes action. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

4-My Friend Mell (8-1)-Price shot starts from a much better post than others who can challenge for top honors. Sherman could land on the point off the gate and that puts this 6-year-old in play.
8-Zanetti (9/2)-The post is a concern but has enough gate speed to get a decent seat. Went off as an odds-on choice versus better in last from post 7. Needs the right trip but faces easier and Merriman is at the controls.
9-Just Bookem (2-1)-This 8-year-old has become camera shy. But will use on the drop because the #1 & #2 have some gate speed, could follow and get away in decent position.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

2-She's Spicy (3-1)-Per Engblom freshman ships in from M1 after a couple of tune ups. Wrenn gets the nod and will respect the connections that she will be okay on the turns.
4-Sister Wives (9/2)-Raced better at ScD after trying hopples. Now the trainer hands the lines to Myers and will look for the upswing to continue with the addition of trotting hopples and a positive driver change.
6-Kaminari (7-1)-Trevor Smith qualified the Chris Beaver pupil 3 times and she looks ready to compete. Could land in a good spot and might offer a nice price.

Race 13 (10:24 PM EST)

1-Later Dudes (9/5)-Ships in from ScD and should fit with this crew. Has hit the board in 7 of 11 here with 5 pictures.
2-Dragon City (4-1)-Went off at 8/5 and beat the Open II company handily on 7-2 at odds of 8/5. Should offer a better price tonight. The Bendis trainee looks versatile, could win coming off cover or by getting on the engine.
5-Camouflage Money (7-1)-Caught the speed to take pictures in 2 of the last 3 starts. There should be a few who will leave hard, the 4-year-old is in fine form, and this race could set-up nicely.

Race 14 (10:46 PM EST)

3-Eye Ofa Tiger As (2-1)-This veteran wins its share versus Open Handicap company and could top this kind with an inside post draw. Davis Jr will probably have the pedal down and could be difficult to catch if lands on the point in efficient fashion.
5-Shine All The Way (6-1)-Looking for a price and not going to use the 2nd program chalk #7. Page could leave and land in the pocket behind the one above and knows how to win. Has done good work at Nfld (36-11-5-8) and could make some noise in the 1st start here since mid-May.

Canterbury Park - Race #1

#3 Harleezy	Think he has a little upside in this second trip to post while trying turf for the first time, and he wouldn't be a shock while offering what figures to be a playable price.
#4 Jackson Action	Think he might be ready to go at first asking, but I also wonder if he's going to end up doing his best work going a little bit longer than this. Check him out ahead of this.
#1 Crocodile Tears	He hasn't run a bad one yet through three starts, and he has a little turf sprint experience that might work in his favor, too. He'll probably take some cash, and I think there's at least a chance he gets a tough trip while buried at the fence. Obviously capable.
Race Summary	Harleezy has some upside after a debut try in which he just chased throughout and never threatened, but he's meeting a handful of interesting debuters, so get a look at them on the track and tote.

Canterbury Park - Race #6

#5 Rockinmyfeatherboa	She goes first out for a team that might leave her a bit overlooked, but they've won with this kind locally before and found this filly a debut field mostly from barns that have historically had a lot of trouble with these kinds of runners.
#7 Run With Pride	Nothing wrong with the Prairie Meadows debut try, as she showed some pace and stuck around nicely enough when tiring late. She makes a lot of sense with that race in the rearview, but it's tough to swallow the barn's 0-for-20 mark in similar spots here the last few years. Capable underlay.
#2 Saved By Grace	Interested to see how she gets bet in here, but I imagine she's going to be a popular alternative for those looking to play against the Prairie invader. Guessing the tote will tip this one.
Race Summary	Rockinmyfeatherboa goes first out in a field without any of the local 2-year-old maiden powerhouse barns, and I am hoping the wide runner will take cash off the Prairie debut for a team that has struggled to score with this kind.

Canterbury Park - Race #7

#5 Score Mccoy	He should offer a decent enough price, and I think his turf try here last year was a bit better than it looks on paper. He was away a bit awkwardly and made an advance on the backstretch and far turn to lead at the top of the lane. He flattened from there, but that kind of try might fit better at this cheaper level, and maybe he's a bit more professional today in his 3-year-old debut?
#2 Back to Selling	He has never been in this easy and drops for the third start off the bench after turning in a good try with tougher last out -- he is supposed to win this all day on paper, but I think it's okay to ask a couple questions about the plunge in class off a good effort with no published works since that late May try.
#1 Mr Insensitive	Tactical speed gets back to the right level after trying a tougher group last out, but something like the two-back effort with similar probably keeps him right in the mix again with this group.
Race Summary	Score Mccoy has not done much of note through three starts, but he did make a sort of sustained, but awkward, move in that turf route here last year against better. Think the price will be right to see if a smoother trip might make a difference at this level.

2^nd race [Clm 14000B, 6F] – (2) Liberty Flame set the pace, finished third last time for a $25,000 tag, and is projected to be on the lead. (5) Just a Nyquist moved from turf to dirt hoping for a dry track after three starts for a $35,000 claiming price. Her last win was on Aqueduct main track. (1) Simple Sugar made her 2023 debut for a $25,000 price and is the only horse in her trainer’s barn. (6) Luna Loca was claimed for $40,000 by Linda Rice two races back in May at Belmont Park.
4^th race [Md 40000, 6F TURF] – (6) Variable Cost was claimed for $40,000 by Linda Rice from her first start when she finished second for Chad Brown. She was then third in her next race for a $75,000 tag. (4) Kasimba was third in all three starts while being part of the early pace and now switches to the turf after two starts at Monmouth Park. (7) Luna Warrior had the lead in the stretch and missed the win by a neck at Belmont.
6^th race [Clm 30000 N2L, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (1) Ghostlyprince (B) had to wait behind the leader and moved well after getting clear. (7) Paratus closed from last to miss the win by a nose in his second start following a layoff. (3) Spettro made a big improvement in his second start of the year when he set the pace and finished third with an increased speed figure. (9) Most Wanted Man got his maiden victory in a $25,000 maiden claimer two races ago.
7^th race [NY, Alw 80000 N1X, 6F] – (3) You’re My Girl will make her first start of 2023 after debuting with a win at Saratoga last year and then getting second in the Frizette (G1) which came before the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). I think McBurney will have him fit and ready for today's race. Horse has improved at least two speed figure points in last two races. I look for that to continue in this field.

INTRO - Quite frequently, I play a maiden that finished second easily ahead of the 3rd place finisher in her last race. Average class rating is tops in this bunch. I think that is a big advantage for a race on the grass. QUEEN OF THE DANCE - In this race here, this race horse has garnered the highest Equibase speed figure at the distance, so I have to give her the edge. I seem to always make money betting Stidham horses on the grass. That barn has a solid win pct for this distance/surface. Last out, this one was in a race at Parx Racing in a race with a class rating of 70. Dropping considerably in class rating this time out puts her in a solid position in this race. That 68 fig this filly notched in her last event tells me she's a main player today. KRONE - This filly is in fine condition, having run a strong race on June 18th, finishing second.

CARMEL SUNRISE - Morning line odds of 7/2 make this racer a pass by my criteria. NUWANDA - Doesn't look inspiring to me after the lack of any sort of closing ability on Jun 18th. One should normally not play a steed in the next start after finishing off the board following a long turnout. Earned a run-of-the-mill speed figure last time out in a $45,000 Maiden Claiming race on Jun 18th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that figure. NAMI - This steed ran a disappointing speed fig last time out. She shouldn't show signs of improvement and will probably suffer defeat today running that rating.
