RACE 1: Post: 2:00 PT Grade: C+
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 2-Dark Vintage; 4-Rastaman Vibe; 5-Eisenhower
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 3-Murphy Boy.

Forecast: Here’s a tough maiden turf sprint to kick off the Wednesday program. Dark Vintage probably isn’t any world beater, but he does have the benefit of a prior outing and looks like the logical top pick for trainer Wesley Ward. The Irish-bred colt flashed speed in his debut in New York before weakening late to finish third and should be tighter and fitter today for a barn that hits at a powerful 24% with second time starters. Rastaman Vibe and Eisenhower have done some decent work leading up to their debuts and should be competitive at the very least. Both are by sires who excel with turf runners, so they may even be better than the dirt track drills indicate.

RACE 2: Post: 2:30 PT Grade: B-
Main ticket: (in order of preference): 5-Austonian
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 1-Winning Idea.

Forecast: Austonian shows up in a maiden ($50,000) claimer for the first time and also is a first time gelding, so there are at least two strong reasons to believe that the son of Smiling Tiger is ready to step forward and graduate. Back sprinting and with a solid recent series of drills, the Brian Koriner-trained sophomore doesn’t really have a whole to beat according to his decided edge in the speed figure department. He’s 9/5 on the morning line and that looks like a proper price in a soft abbreviated sprint.

RACE 3: Post: 3:00 PT Grade: C+
Main ticket (in order of preference): 3-Brother Reid; 9-Table for Two; 4-Thirsty Pappy; 7-Overrule.
Backups/savers/Underneath: 2-Cali Bay; 5-Battle Call.

Forecast: This grass grab bag requires a spread in rolling exotic play. Spread as deeply as your budget allows. Brother Reid lacks tactical speed and needs as much help up front and he can get, but the Vladimir Cerin-trained gelding likes this turf course and just missed by a head at 28-1 in a similar affair at Santa Anita in mid-June. There should be sufficient pace signed on to compliment his style, so we’ll take a mild shot at or near his morning line of 5-1. Table for Two is a fit on numbers and is a versatile type that can be dangerous on any surface. His best puts him right there. Thirsty Pappy drops into a restricted (nw-2 $32,000 seller for the first time and should greatly appreciate the easier competition. He’s a one paced grinder with a projected mid-race trip and could easily outrun his 15-1 morning line price. Toss him in. Overrule is another exiting a tough affair and should be highly competitive based on his maiden claiming $50,000 score at Santa Anita two runs back. He’s probably most effective as the controlling speed, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be handed the early lead without having to work for it.

Forecast: Though a tad disappointing when failing to seal the deal as the 4/5 favorite, Big Novel finished a solid runner-up in a downhill turf sprint in late June in her first outing off a layoff, should build on that performance today, and can be just as effective on dirt and over a distance of ground. The John Sadler-trained filly has consistent recent speed figures and is multiple stakes placed over the Del Mar main track, so as the morning line 8/5 favorite, the daughter of Mr. Big should have no excuses in this state bred, first level allowance main track miler. In a race that should have moderate early fractions, she projects to be on or near the lead throughout.

Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Itzel is the quickest in the field and should be able to clear the pack early and roll all the way to the wire in this abbreviated turf dash for first level allowance fillies and mares. The lightly raced daughter of Mo Town earned a career top speed figure when second as the favorite in a similar affair over six furlongs at Santa Anita in mid-June and should greatly appreciate today’s shorter (by a furlong) trip. At 5/2 on the morning line, she’s a solid play in the straight pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Main ticket (in order of preference) : 3-Sheza Girly Girl
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Del Mar course specialist Sheza Girly Girl returns to her claim and level and looks capable of regaining her winning form in this state-bred allowance optional $20,000 claiming main track sprint. The veteran mare shows three wins from five career starts over the Del Mar main track and although her recent form is below her best she did earn a strong speed figure when third in a similar affair at Los Alamitos in her most recent outing. Her morning line of 4-1 seems about right, so let’s take a stand and make her a win play and rolling exotic single in what appears to be a fairly wide open heat.

RACE 7: Post: 5:00 PT Grade: B
Main ticket (in order of preference): 7-Jack Sixpack; 5-Tiz Plus
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Jack Sixpack has been sprinting of late, but he can be just as effective around two turns, especially in races in which he projects as the controlling speed. A perfect one-for-one over the Del Mar grass course, the son of Bluegrass Cat catches a field that he can control from gate to wire according our pace projections and given that type of trip the Phil D’Amato-trained gelding will offer excellent wagering value at 4-1 on the morning line. Tiz Plus shows the blinkers off angle that we like and has numbers that make him competitive. However, he’s winless since 2019, making him a tad hard to trust.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 8-Princess Tenko; 1-Electric Glide
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 4-Lt’s Choice.

Forecast: Let’s try to get by using a couple of middle priced horse in the finale. Princess Tenko is a Gulfstream Park invader seeking valuable ship-and-win purse money and to make things easier the daughter of Good Magic plummets to the bottom-rung maiden $20,000 claiming ranks. She’s hit the board just once in four career starts but has earned speed figures that are more than good enough to handle this modest assignment. She’s listed at 4-1 on the morning line and is a strong play at or near that price. Electric Glide is slower on numbers than our top pick but represents inside speed and seems certain to establish the running and have every chance from there. This is a group she should be able to act with at 6-1 on the morning line.

Main ticket: (in order of preference): 1-B D Saints; 3-Cold Plunge
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 2-Get Spooled; 5-Dancing Mischief

Forecast: There are many question marks and unknowns for the player to deal with in the Thursday opener, a maiden special weight turf route for New York-bred juveniles. Tread lightly. B D Saints has the benefit of a prior run, removes blinkers, and goes for a barn whose maidens usually improve with experience. The Ellis Park shipper seems as good as any. Cold Plunge from Delaware Park for a barn that does with debut runners and as a son of Point of Entry certainly is bred for grass. With the presence of Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the saddle, he could turn up a live item.

Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Union Lights has solid recent numbers and takes a logical class drop to the restricted (nw-3) $16,000 level that looks like a winning move. He’s been a bit of a money burner of later but his last outing, a good runner-up while well clear of the rest, may be good enough to win if repeated today. Invasion War drops below his claim level, adds blinkers, and has several back speed figures that are better than par for this level. He lacks a true style – he’s not a speed horse and not really a closer, either – but against this group he’s a major player.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 6-Implementation; 1a-Inevtabl Connection
Backups/savers/Underneath: none

Forecast: Implementation is a first-off-the-($30,000) claim play for Saffie Joseph, Jr. (strong 21% with this angle) and, in a sign of confidence, is protected in starter’s allowance company in his first outing since April. The son of Constitution seeks his third straight and score and has numbers that are good enough to extend the streak. As a prototype late running sprinter with a prior win over this six and one-half furlong trip, he should have every chance to produce a winning late kick. Inevtabl Connection might find this extended sprint distance a bit taxing but if he can shake loose early from his comfortable outside post under Irad Ortiz, Jr., the son of Connect could be hard to catch.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 8-Its Cold in Dehere; 5-Run Devil
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Its Cold in Dehere drops from $20,000 to $12,500 in his first start off a Linda Rice claim – you see that a lot – so the question isn’t whether she’s good enough to win, but rather if she’s sound enough to pass the morning vet check (you see that a lot, too). First or second in21 of 44 career starts, she’ll be hard to beat if feeling up to it. Run Devil is another huge class drop – she’s plummeting from the $40,000 ranks after being haltered for $20,000 two races back – and is another whose current condition must be questioned, but not her ability to win at this level based on her previous form. Clearly, this is a race to treat with caution.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 1-Timbuktu; 5-Gem Mint Ten; 9-One Headlight.
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none

Forecast: Timbuktu looked sharp winning a starters allowance $50,000 affair at Belmont Park last month while earning a career top speed figures and a repeat of that outing today makes him tough right back in this state-bred first level allowance turf router. The son of Munnings shows a prior win over local lawn and projects to enjoy a comfortable second flight, ground saving trip from his favorable rail draw. Gem Mint Ten is a fit on numbers and will appreciate this class drop from state-bred stakes company and the stretch out in trip. One Headlight is lightly raced and improving and never worse than second in three career starts. He’s stepping up from a maiden win but has plenty of room for further improvement and given his connections is sure to receive plenty of play.

Main ticket (in order of preference): 4-Destiny Star; 1-Khozy Colby; 10-Tempting Lady
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 8-Hidden Class.

Forecast: This maiden special weight sprint for juvenile state-bred fillies is a typical grass grab bag with several first timers that are almost impossible to classify. Best advice is to include as many as your budget allows in rolling exotic play. Destiny Star, from the first crop of Catholic Boy, appears to have done some good working leading up to her racing debut and seems as good as any. Bred for grass on both sides of her pedigree, she hails from a barn that has competent stats with debut runners and a series of solid workout that should have her plenty fit. Khozy Colby has the benefit of two solid efforts under her belt, both good runner-up efforts on dirt – and if she can duplicate either one of those races on grass the daughter of Khozan will be quite formidable. Tempting Lady okay breezing a furlong in :10 2/5 at the Timonium Sale and seems better than her 15-1 morning line might indicate. She’s a price chance worth tossing in.

RACE 7: Post: 4:34 ET Grade: B-
Main ticket (in order of preference): 4-I’mhavingamoment; 7-Tempermental
Backups/Savers/Underneath: 6-Security Code.

Forecast: I’mhavingamoment earned a career top figure when beating non-winners of two allowance state bred competition at Belmont Park last month in clever fashion and moves into the second level allowance ranks with a second flight, stalking style that works well at this extended sprint distance. A bullet half mile drill since raced (:47 4/5, fastest of 63) indicates that further improvement is likely, so at 5/2 on the morning line we’ll put her on top. Tempermental, a $32,000 Chris Englehart claim (a strong 21% with this angle), switches to the main track and won his most recent dirt start back in March. She has numbers that fit and should be heard from in the final furlong.

Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: Pipeline makes his first start since the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland last November and will greatly appreciate the softer assignment (no Cody’s Wish) in this second level allowance main track miler. In the frame in all three of his previous starts over the Saratoga main track, the lightly raced 5-year-old son of Speightstown shows a relatively light recent work tab but hails from a barn that is lethal with comebackers (30%) and simply should outclass this field. However, at 3/5 on the morning line, there’s little wagering value to be found.

RACE 9: Post: 5:44 ET Grade: X
Main ticket (in order of preference): 1-War Like Goddess
Backups/Savers/Underneath: none.

Forecast: War Like Goddess was victimized by a poor trip and creepy-crawler pace and never was a factor at 3/5 in the New York Stakes-G1 at Belmont Park in early June. Toss the race out. The high class daughter of English Channel, a winner of three of four races over the Saratoga lawn including the past two editions of the Glens Falls Stakes-G1, is guaranteed a ground-saving trip from the rail and should be along in plenty of time with anything remotely close to her best race. She is the 3/5 morning line favorite and looks it on paper.

Forecast: We’re going to give Sinaloa one more chance after the Linda Rice-trained gelding failed to land a blow when well-backed in an off-the-turf sprint at this level two weeks ago. He’s a late runner with some ability and should show his best stuff under these conditions. He gets Irad Ortiz, Jr., and blinkers, so there should be no excuses today. War Prince turns back to a sprint and may be most comfortable at this trip. Freshened since early June, the son of War Dancer will be doing his best work late and offers some value at 6-1 on the morning line.

Del Mar - Race #3

#12 Developing the Way	He'll need some scratch help if he's going to get into the field today, but I think he has some appeal on the move to the turf if he heads to post. Interesting at a midrange price.
#6 Stormy Victory	He has a little versatility that might serve him well in this group, and his Gulfstream form is in line with some of the better ones in here. Always considering the shippers first time with an incentive to fire.
#3 Brother Reid	The overall form here makes a lot of sense, but he lacks early speed and has a tendency to show up late -- if at all. His best stuff might do, but I would want a fair number to see if he can back that last one up.
Race Summary	Developing the Way may not run today, but I think he has some appeal while getting on the local footing if he draws a few scratches and gets to run. Think Stormy Victory is the right one in the main body here.

Del Mar - Race #7

#2 Taishan	Not much to write home about on the form over the past year, but he's getting into an easier condition here has at least some room to improve today against this group. Price might be right.
#7 Jack Sixpack	He has some ability to relax just a touch and still finish, and that might keep him in a really nice spot while tracking the early splits without getting drawn into any battles.
#6 Soulmate	He might have the right kind of finishing style for this race, as there are a couple potential forward players who may at least ensure the pacesetters don't get any breathers. Capable.
Race Summary	Taishan has been in with some pretty decent groups over the last year, and it shows on his form. He'll need a reversal today, but maybe the softer spot gives him that room.

Del Mar - Race #8

#6 Cherry Chaos	She drops while in some of her better form, and she owns the kind of committed route pace that should ensure she's right up on the engine in a race without a ton of serious speed. Dirt is still a question, but she gets a route trip on the main for the first time today.
#10 Violet Crown	Really like her versatility, as she figures to utilize a touch of her tactical pace to keep in a good tracking spot early today. In the mix with any upside in the second start off the bench.
#12 Midnight Silence	She has been landing shares since dropping to this level, but she has pressing pace from a wide draw, and I worry she's going to have to hustle a touch and might get caught wide if she's not fast enough.
Race Summary	Cherry Chaos should try to have a go for it, and that might play well in a pretty cheap spot. Her dirt form is a big question, but now might be the right time to think she can improve on her past main-track tries after a couple good runs with better.

She was in good position in her lone turf try at one mile but came up short in the stretch in a race dominated by deep closers. Bet to win and place.
