Monday 8/14/23 Free Plays / Trends / Betting Info / Etc
This is a play on the MIAMI MARLINS for our Monday Free Play. Houston is coming off a series win over the Angels after dropping the finale on Sunday 2-1. It has been a solid run for the Astros as they have gone 16-8 over their last 24 games to keep pace with the Rangers in the American League West, sitting 2.5 games back. Miami is coming off a huge come-from-behind win on Sunday against the Yankees as it trailed 7-3 heading into the ninth inning and put up five runs to win 8-7 for its second straight series win. The Marlins are sitting in the third Wild Card spot in the National League, a half-game ahead of the Cubs and Reds. Framber Valdez tossed a no hitter two starts back but followed that up with a dud against the Orioles and that has how he has been of late with some strong performances and some clunkers as well. Over his last seven starts, he has a 5.65 ERA and in nine road outings, he has a 4.55 ERA. Braxton Garrett has a pair of poor outings coming out of the All Star break but has been solid since then, posting a 2.65 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in his last three starts to lower his ERA to 4.03 and WHIP to 1.17 over 22 starts. His numbers at home are not as good but the Marlins are 9-2 in his 11 home outings. Play (910) Miami Marlins
I'll take my chances with the UNDER 8.5 in Monday's series opener between the Royals and Rangers. It's a pretty cool day in KC for mid-August. High for today is only 73. Winds will be blowing in from left field foul pole at close to 20 mph. We also got two red-hot starters on the mound. Seattle's Logan Gilbert has a 2.33 ERA and 0.931 WHIP in his last 3 starts. KC's Brady Singer has a 2.29 ERA and 0.813 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Give me the UNDER 8.5!
We feel KC on the runline option is worthy of a "second look" here on Monday night. Seattle is in the hunt for a wildcard, so KC is looking to "play spoiler" this series. The Royals just went 1-1 vs. the Cardinals, while the Mariners went 1-2 vs. the Orioles, snapping an 8-game win streak. This starting pitching matchup is more evenly matched than what the oddsmakers think though in our opinion, and that makes this home side runline option very attractive. Logan Gilbert (10-5, 3.66 ERA) is scheduled to start, and if he doesn't go, it's going to be Emerson Hancock (0-0, 1.80.) Whoever starts, we like Brady Singer (8-8, 5.05), who is 3-0 with a 2.94 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break and who is 1-0 with a 1.32 ERA in three career appearances vs. Seattle. Consider KC!
The San Diego Padres cannot be this big of favorites over the Baltimore Orioles with the way they are playing right now. The Padres are 1-6 in their last seven games overall and have been held to 2 runs or fewer in four of the six losses. The Baltimore Orioles are 10-4 in their last 14 games overall to improve to 73-45 this season with their sights set on winning the AL East. Grayson Rodriquez is going through his best stretch of the season for the Orioles with a 2.50 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in his last three starts while not giving up a single HR in any of his last five starts in 32 2/3 innings. Yu Darvish has a 4.19 ERA in 21 starts for the Padres this season and has been wildly inconsistent. The Padres are 2-7 (-9.9 Units) in Darvish's nine starts as a home favorite this season. Give me the Orioles.
