Forecast: The known element is ordinary so let’s latch on to a fresh face in this maiden $80,000 claiming sprint for juveniles. Tapalo has done some very good local work for John Sadler and appears to have the kind of speed and ability to win a race at this level. Bred for speed (Tapiture), he smoked a quarter mile in :21 flat at the OBS March sale without undue pressure, and from his lovely outside draw he should be able to secure a soft pace pressing trip or perhaps even establish the running and go on from it from there. He’s listed at 3-1 on the morning line and would offer excellent value in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics at or near that price.

Forecast: Though he is listed at 10-1 on the morning line, we seriously doubt that the first time starter Catmansue will leave at anywhere near that price in this maiden special weight sprint for state-bred 2-year-olds. A $100,000 OBS March sale by Cat Burglar, he’s the most expensive offspring of his sire and may winding up well worth that price based on his sizzling :09 4/5 breeze during the preview session in which he displayed excellent speed without being knocked about. His local drills for trainer Jeff Mullins have been visually pleasing as well, so if this promising colt performs up to expectations he’ll win at first asking as win play and rolling exotic single.

Forecast: Okaloosa outran his 14-1 price when an excellent runner-up in an off-the-turf maiden special weight state-bred sprint here last month and hopefully, weather permitting, he'll have his chance on grass in this abbreviated dash for older horses. He was more than four lengths clear of the rest in his debut run when facing maiden $40,000 company, but he earned a speed figure that makes him quite competitive on the raise and is being protected in a sign of confidence. At 4-1 on the morning line, the Horacio De Paz sophomore offers a good gamble in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Forecast: Solo’s Fury is a flashy, good-looking chestnut that caught the eye at the Timonium 2-year-old-in-training sale last spring when breezing a very quick furlong in :10 1/5 while being asked through the lane and responding quite nicely. From the first crop of Solomini, this $130,000 auction purchase has put together a series of solid recent local drills that should have him fit and ready for a major performance in this New York-bred maiden special weight sprint. The barn’s “go-to” rider Johnny V. takes the call, and in a field in which there are no apparent world beaters the Jeremiah Englehart-trained colt should be a very live item first crack out of the box.

Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card, the 0.50 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5 and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

3-American Mercury (5/2)-Was bet down to 4/5 and didn't disappoint in last. Wired the field in 150.2 from this same post and now steps up. Joe B needs to provide a sharp steer as there is gate speed inside. But will respect chances to double up off his last effort.
4-None Bettor A (7/2)-Ships back from Batavia after getting stuck with the 8-hole. Could land right behind the one above off the gate and should offer a fair price. Has won 20 of 60 starts here and is riding a 4 race Yonkers win streak but hasn't faced this kind.

Race 8

3-He's Special N (7/2)-Drops, gets post relief and Brennan could land on top with this post draw. This is the 1st start for the
Di Domenico barn and could be tough to catch if the 4-year-old gets an easy lead.
4-Pinebush Lifesaver (5/2)-Beat the $50k claimers here 2 back and now lands at a fortunate level. Needs a good trip plus an honest pace to take a picture and both could happen tonight.

Race 9

1-Nandolo N (5/2)-This looks like another chalky race. The veteran draws the rail and is back in at the level of its last win. Best to respect but will not offer any value.
2-Jack's Legend N (2-1)-Has been in sharp form and steps up but has beaten this kind at Yonkers this summer. Kakaley could land on the engine and not look back.

Race 10

1-Caviart Sargent (6-1)-Will look for some prices in what appears to be a race without a standout. The Height barn has been ice cold, but this is soft spot and should be competitive. Has the gate speed to race near the top of stack and could get sucked around at a nice price.
2-Shine A Light (5/2)-Per Engblom entry is probably the one to beat and fits with this crew. The issue is a lack of gate speed and needs an honest pace. The good news is Bartlett will be steering and he finds ways to win.
3-Huntanover (7-1)-Ran into 2 well-meant winners in a row, should be a solid price and Stratton has some gate speed to use. Could get a cozy trip and be in striking range turning for the wire.
7-Frequent Image (9/2)-Won easily last time in 151.3 to take its 2nd straight picture. Steps-up again, Kakaley may leave and should land in a good seat. Best to not overlook and hopefully won't be over bet.

Del Mar - Race #10

#4 Putt for Dough	She only chased in that stakes try last out, but she has some ability to get past horses late, and that may serve her well in a spot with several runners who want to do their work on the lead. Nothing like Pushiness in here today.
#1 Crazy Hot	She finished in front of the top choice when they met last out, and she's fast enough to find a good spot early from the inside. A bit overbet?
#6 Prancingthruparis	She was in the mix the entire way in the 5/1 debut score on the turf, and I wouldn't put it past her to turn in a good run while getting over to the main track on the rise.
Race Summary	Putt for Dough's stakes debut might have been a touch better than it looks at first glance with a serious winner on top that day, and I think a spy and pounce trip might get her home today.

Del Mar - Race #11

#7 Soulmate	Taking a little price shot with this guy who has only been reaching for the lower Superfecta rungs in recent starts, but he's not getting smashed in any of those races and might be in the frame here with just a little luck.
#5 Tiz Plus	Reliable underneath type would hit hard here if he can bring anything close to his baseline, and he seems like a really tough one to get past here at what is likely to be an underlaid number.
#2 Taishan	A couple of his recent turf runs have been a bit better than they looked, and this easier spot might allow him to bounce back after a dud on the main track last out. Capable, but I don't think I'd be too excited here at something like the 6/1 ML price.
Race Summary	Soulmate is a sort of one-paced finisher, but he hasn't been too far off some decent runners on his page, and the price should be right after finishing behind some of these last time out.

Del Mar - Race #9

#2 Horace Mann	Blinkers come off after the fade job last time out, and he should be in line for a great trip spying the speed again here. Thinking his previous baseline keeps him in the mix, and I like the race he's coming out of. Should get the jump on a lot of other serious players.
#3 X J Rascal	He's a tough call for me, because I think he's capable of landing this, but he is also probably going to take a little bit of cash with a couple running lines on the page that are not all that inspiring.
#7 Act Three	He's another coming out of a pretty good race, and I imagine he can probably sit just a touch closer this time around than he did last out. Midrange price chance.
Race Summary	Have to consider #8 Legislator who finished in front of some of these before a DQ last out, but the price probably gets a lot shorter this time around. Horace Mann has some positional pace in a race with a lot of confirmed finishers and is certainly capable of something better than last out.

Race Summary	BET OF THE CENTURY is a three-race winner against mostly nw/2 types and was claimed out of an easy victory at this level. She ‘quickly took charge’ at the top of the stretch and is taken to repeat with a comparable effort. Bet to win and place.

#2 BLUE HORSESHOE (3-1)	Prepped three months on Saratoga lawn and main track but didn’t race.
#7 BYRD OF EDEN (6-1)	Slow start, wide chasing slow pace in first long-distance test on the lawn.

Race Summary	BLUE HORSESHOE debuts for Brown off a long series of workouts at Saratoga. Her dam was a first-out MSW winner at the Spa and stakes-placed as a 2-year-old. Bet to win and place and play a 2-7-11 exacta box.

FLURRY OF ROSES - Is tough not to consider based on Equibase speed figs which have been formidable - 59 avg - of late. She has a good opportunity for this event as conditioner, Buckley, has strong win clip with horses going this distance. STAR SPEAKER - Has to be carefully examined here on the basis of the numbers in the speed department alone. Very solid returns have been scored by investors using this rider and trainer twosome recently.

OVERTHEBLUESKY - This filly is always hitting the board, but just doesn't win. Tough to wager on her on the front end.

My pick in this event is HASHTAG BAE. Looks solid to be up near the front end at the first call. Had one of the most respectable Speed Figures of this field in his last competition. Have to look at solely on class, with some of the strongest class figures of this group of animals. SMOKE AND BURN - He has been racing soundly recently while recording strong Speed Figures. The quick return to racing points to a strong effort this time around. BOY HOWDY - Has been running very well lately and will probably be on or close to the lead early on. Is a solid contender - given the 60 Equibase Speed Figure from his most recent race.
