Tuesday MLB Free play. My selection is on Los Angeles over Miami at 6:40 pm et on Tuesday.
The Dodgers will be happy to be done with the Braves (for now) after dropping three of four games against them at home from Thursday-Sunday. Los Angeles did manage to salvage the finale of that series and then enjoyed its first day off since August 21st yesterday. I look for the Dodgers to come back strong on Monday in Miami as they hand the ball to Clayton Kershaw against Jesus Luzardo of the Marlins. Miami is coming off an off day on Monday as well - one it probably wanted no part of after sweeping Washington in a four-game series and scoring a whopping 31 runs in the process. Kershaw continues to defy the laws of time as he checks in sporting a 2.48 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 20 starts this season with the Dodgers going 15-5 in those contests. Since returning from a month-plus stint on the I.L., Kershaw has made four starts, allowing just four earned runs on 10 hits over 17 innings of work. Noting that the Marlins average just 3.5 runs per game against left-handed starting pitching this season, I like Kershaw's chances of keeping it rolling on Tuesday. Jesus Luzardo checks in off consecutive masterful outings, allowing only three hits over 12 shutout innings. He's just two starts removed from a stretch that saw him allow 20 earned runs in 17 innings of work, however. My bigger concern is the Marlins bullpen which has blown 24 saves this season including 14 here at home. Contrast with the Dodgers 'pen, which has converted 40 saves while blowing only 12, including an 18:4 ledger on the road. Take Los Angeles.Comment

This is a play on the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS for our Tuesday Free Play. Chicago took the opener of this series on Monday to make it two straight wins and the Cubs have remained hot, going 29-13 over their last 42 games. This run has gotten them to within 2.5 games of the Brewers in the National League Central and they hold down the No. 2 spot in the Wild Card standings. San Francisco has dropped four consecutive games following a 4-1 run that started to get them back on track after a bad August. The Giants are still very much alive as they are one of the four teams that are separated by only one game vying for the third and final Wild Card spot. It will be a bullpen game for the Giants with Ryan Walker getting the start. This will be his 12th opener and will go no more than three innings and he has been solid thus far, posting a 2.25 ERA and has allowed just one earned run in six straight starts and has three scoreless relief appearances since his last start. Kyle Hendricks has put together a solid run of five straight starts of allowing three or fewer runs but going back further, he has received very little run support. We think this line is out of whack. Despite being on the road, Philadelphia should in fact be a somewhat larger favorite in our opinion, considering how well it's been playing. Michael Lorenzen has been sharp for the Phillies over his last three starts. Pedro Avila has a 2.67 ERA, but note that he hasn't even reached five innings yet this year. The Padres bullpen is middle of the road and this red hot Phillies offense at this price offers great value to take advantage; consider Philadelphia!
