The Marlins are in a four-team wildcard race and are trying to get 1 of the two remaining slots. The Mets are eliminated and don’t have much to play for. We have seen this scenario a few times, and it doesn’t seem to matter, but the only logic we can go on late in the year is that a team needing to win every remaining game will play harder than a team that won’t play in the postseason. Mets pitcher Joey Lucchesi pitched very well in his limited work this year, but the Mets could be better when hitting left-handed pitching as they are at the bottom of the league. Braxton Garrett has been pitching well and should shut down the Mets. The Marlins have the second-best batting average in all of baseball and should be able to get on the board early and squeeze out a win. Take the Mets.
