Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway begins the week with a compact 9-race card. The 0.50 Pick 5 with a $20,000 guaranteed pool starts in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 rolls in Race 6, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6 (8:40 PM EST)

1-Imma Be (4-1)-Took the month of September off and the qualifier on 10-6 was fine. Stratton gets the call for the Adamczyk barn and that could help chances. The 5-year-old has won 9 of 17 at Yonkers and looks like a player if fires hot off the bench.
2-Fulsome (8-1)-This 5-year-old is in good form and has finished 2nd in the last 2 starts to Certifiable. Dube should have the Capone trainee forwardly placed from the start and may have met a beatable field.
8-RJ Sports Image (8/5)-Drops in for a $75,000 tag and will have to deal with post 8. The 8/5 morning line is tough to swallow with this draw but is difficult to leave off the ticket. The pedal should be down, and Bartlett could land on the point or in the pocket.

Race 7 (9:00 PM EST)

2-Artist Best (4-1)-There is cause to pause as will need its best to win versus this kind but does have a tactical edge with gate speed. Has been stuck with post 8 in the last 2 races and now faces a soft field. The minister of speed could land on the point and control the mile. The program chalk will be chasing but doesn't have big gate speed.
5-JF Standingovation (2-1)-Comes off a solid effort but has issues here because of starting slowly and being pace compromised. Kakaley knows the same and with this post draw could be closer to the leaders into the 1st turn. Did finish a tight 3rd in the first try in this age restriction condition.

Race 8 (9:20 PM EST)

2-Rock Diamonds N (6-1)-Comes off a couple of even efforts and my take is the Jenn B barn is due to get hot. Could wire this field if gets the top without burning much gas. Looking for that plan to play out and has done good work at YR (38-10-8-4).
5-Moonlight Shadow (5/2)-Engblom-Bartlett combo could benefit from a likely quick pace. Knows how to win coming off cover and this race could set-up nicely for the morning line chalk.

Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

2-Ballerat Boomerang (5/2)-This is not a formidable field and will probably be a short price. The Laterza barn has been ice cold, but gets needed post relief and Brennan sticks. This could be wake-up time.
6-Machiavelli (4-1)-Ships in from the East coast and has won 18 of 80 starts at Yonkers. The Camilleri barn has been clicking and this veteran performed well at PcD and Philly. Bartlett steers, just raced on 10-7 and can still motor. Will take a swing versus this crew.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3

#3 Cloud in the Wind	She's one of two racing here out of the Girten barn, and that team rules the local ranks in races like this. She's got some pace that should keep her in the mix and has already proven a good fit at this level.
#7 Unseen	She wasn't embarrassed on the turf at Meadowlands last out, and she might be a good fit with the locals for a similar price. She makes sense, but I also would have liked to see a little more late punch from her at some point.
#6 Warrior Bernice	She took some cash in the debut with similar last month, but she was slow, wide, and never involved that day. I could easily see her turning in something better, but I'd want a much more attractive number than last time.
Race Summary	Cloud in the Wind runs for a team that has cleaned up in these types of spots the last few years, and she has some pace to get in the frame early, and I like that she doesn't need a ton of upside to be competitive with these.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #4

#4 Outta the Cloud	She really should be fast enough to be right up near the splits while getting back around two turns, and I think she might have a chance to dig in if she gets into position to try to give these the slip on the far turn.
#6 Determined Empire	She's getting short on excuses at this point, but she owns several running lines that would make her tough here. Logical player at an underlaid price.
#7 Mary Katherine	She might have room to bring something a bit better while facing the locals for the first time, but I worry she'll take just a touch too much cash with the New York running lines on her page. Could be talked into thinking about it if the price were right.
Race Summary	Outta the Cloud has a little claim on this, and the price might be fair enough with Determined Empire the clear one to beat. Hoping 'Cloud will try to have a go for it.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #7

#6 Dewey Doit	Nothing wrong with the form so far after a couple easy wins at Parx, and she might be fast enough to dictate this one early again. Big chance if she likes the new footing.
#8 Noisy on the Bay	She finished up well when traying stakes company in her debut at Parx last month, and any reasonable upside in this second career start would make her tough.
#2 Dancing Spirit	She has plenty of room to bounce back after the turf dud last time out, and she might be able to find a little bit more late while facing local company again after giving away some ground late in her recent starts with stakes company.
Race Summary	Dewey Doit should be on a send mission in here after rattling off two easy wins at Parx, and she's not meeting a ton of confirmed early burners, so she might have a real chance to make it three in a row on the engine.

#8 THREE COATS (9-2)	Dam was six-figure earner in these parts, worked bullet from gate in final prep.
#1 EVERLASTING SPIRIT (7-2)	Could take some catching from rail if she averts another ‘awkward’ start.
#2 WHAT ABOUT NOW (5-1)	Troubled starts in both sprints, stretches out, barn on 4-12 run with 2yos.
Race Summary	THREE COATS need not be much to factor in her debut against Indiana breds. Her dam, Triple A, was a maiden special weight and allowance winner over the track and stakes-placed in between for the same barn. Bet to win and place.

Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #2

#6 FIRE BRYAN (6-1)	Good moves in last two sprints to finish second, gets ample pace flow to rally into.
#2 B ADMAN (3-1)	Set pace to mid-stretch, dug in gamely, but came up short.
#1 LORD FALCON (9-2)	Steady work tab the last two months at Churchill Downs, watch odds.
Race Summary	FIRE BRYAN made a bold 5-wide sweep to a brief lead the last time he ran on the main track, but he was out-kicked for the win. He ran a late scare into the pace-controlling favorite last out on the turf. Bet to win and place.

Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #4

#6 RUNTOLIVE (8-5)	Held well during stretch duel but got caught at short price in shorter sprint.
#7 ANGLE ON FIRE (6-1)	Good ‘late interest’ against top one, gets in light for second go-round.
#3 HIGH SISU (10-1)	Outrun in fast-paced maiden claimer at Churchill won by MSW class dropper.
Race Summary	RUNTOLIVE ran second from on and off the pace to start her career. She will have every chance to make amends as the beaten odds-on favorite in this spot. Play 6-3 and 6-7 exactas.

LYRICAL POET - I think the shorter trip will help this gelding stay the distance. This horse has shown the ability to win at multiple tracks. Making the move from Hawthorne for today's event, I have to believe he's ready to run. Another way to evaluate class is earnings per race. This mount has the highest in the bunch. I think he'll be close at the finish line. After a nice race two starts ago, this horse bounced. Now today, I expect another good performance. FOREST SURVIVOR - Based on morning drills, I look for this horse to run a big race. Look for this one to go to the winner's circle at some pretty decent odds in today's race. Ran seventh in last race, but not more than 5 from the lead at the finish line. Look for this horse to show better today. Last race at Monmouth Park finishing seventh on the soft turf is no sign of his true talent.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 SOUTH SEA (ML=4/1), #9 STANHOPE (ML=9/2), #6 RUNAWAY STAR (ML=5/1),

SOUTH SEA - You believe this horse is going to be first just because he's always close. Just doesn't finish on top often. This thoroughbred ran his best speed fig in awhile. May bounce and run poorly off that whirl. STANHOPE - 9/2 is too low of a price to take on most any horse that has run poorly in back to back efforts. RUNAWAY STAR - Nice race on Sep 20th at Presque Isle Downs, but the fact that there are no workouts since has to make one a little worried.

PERJURY - Was in a $12,500 Claiming race at Horseshoe Indianapolis last time out. That event had a class rating of 80 and he is moving down right here in this race. A certain contender. This entrant ran outside the top 3 at Horseshoe Indianapolis last out on a track listed as good. He should improve in this event on a fast track. Generally accepted angle - 3rd or 4th start after a layoff generally leads to a big effort. Today's the day. KRUSIN ROCKET - Taking a trip down in class; has the class ability to make his presence felt. I figure Martin is making a good move here. This gelding can only be aided by the shorter distance. I like the case that this gelding's last figure, 51, is tops in this field. ANGUSONIC - When McEntee gives Cedillo a leg up on any thoroughbred, you got to know that with their win percent you have more than a fighting chance. Rider jumped on this gelding's back for the initial time on Oct 4th. Should 'know' the animal even better this time around. This animal brings in a lot of money per start. Uppermost in this contest. This thoroughbred coming off a good race in the last 30 days is a serious competitor in my opinion. ESTILO CLASICO - I think this gelding is very sharp right now. I like the fact that Morales brings him back to a race so quickly. Possibly a peak effort for this gelding today. Been getting closer with each recent start. Forgive the out of the money finish on the off track last time around the track. Without the off-track conditions, has a fair chance right here in this race. A. P. AVATAR - Last event at Belterra Park on September 29th was a big class drop for this equine. Facing similar foes in this race. He should do well today. I think this colt is ready to run a good one. He's had enough outings since the layoff and should be fit. You probably should ignore that last event at Belterra Park on a track listed as good where he finished off the board. Should do well right here in this race on a fast track.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 SCREAMING JEREMY (ML=5/1), #1 MINDSHIP Q (ML=5/1), #4 LOCKDOWN LOVER (ML=6/1),

SCREAMING JEREMY - A bit of a less than stellar outing when this gelding finished fourth. MINDSHIP Q - Could be tough for this animal to beat this group off of that last speed rating. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put him on the likely underpriced equines list. LOCKDOWN LOVER - Would have to get better off that seventh place finish last time out to make an impact here.

FIFTH SEASON - Is difficult not to look at given the company run in lately. Has garnered reliable Speed Figures in dirt route races in the past.

MAGNIFICENT PEARL - You always have to be on the prowl for profit making rider/handler teams; we have an instance right here. As long as Berrioslopez keeps this horse off the pace, I have to believe this one could be a lucky winner.

K D KAKES - This entrant didn't go to the lead and didn't close in the lane last time she ran. SHELL BELLE - This horse hasn't shown too much in the last couple events. Not likely that the fig she recorded on Oct 9th will hold up in this event. HOLY BERRIES - Hard to put any dough on this filly on the top end. Likes to land in the money though.
