I took the under in the Pacers win over Milwaukee on Monday, and here is what I said prior to that game: "How high can an NBA total go? The Bucks and the Pacers are high flying offensive powerhouses, so it comes as no shocker that they have gone over in seven of the last eight meetings. We have yet to see a total as high as 260 though. Only four of the last seven meetings have gone over 260 combined points. These teams rank 1st and 2nd in the NBA in scoring, but both average well below 130 points per game." The Pacers won by a score of 122-113, falling well short of the total of 260. Now we see an even higher total tonight versus Atlanta, and these teams have gone over in nine of the last 10 head to head meetings. That said, only two of those games saw a combined 260 points. This is only the third time in the last three seasons we've seen a total higher than 260, and neither of the previous two went over.
Friday CBB Free play. My selection is on Rider plus the points (+4) over Quinnipiac at 7:30 pm et on Friday.
The Broncs check into this contest sporting an 0-2 record in MAAC play but I look for them to turn that around sooner rather than later. While Rider is a miserable 3-10 on the season that overall record doesn't tell the whole story as the Broncs have faced a difficult schedule - 90th most difficult in the nation according to KenPom. Quinnipiac on the other hand has only gone against the 339th toughest slate of opponents and that's worth noting when you consider there are just 362 Division I teams. Note that Rider is 9-4 ATS in its last 13 games after losing at least eight of its last 10 contests, as is the case here. The Bobcats are just 36-62 ATS in their last 98 contests after winning two of their last three games. They're also 19-26 ATS in their last 45 games in-conference. Take Rider.
The Golden State Warriors will be playing on short rest following a 130-127 loss to Denver last night.
They've been playing at a much higher tempo since the suspension of Draymond Green. Each of their last four games has gone over the total and the over is 5-1 in Warriors last 6 games following a straight up loss and also 5-1 in Warriors last 6 games playing on 0 days rest.
The Detroit Pistons are 22-12 to the over on the season and the over is 13-3 in Pistons last 16 road games.
Free Play from Doc’s Sports. Take Boise State Broncos +5.5 over San Jose State Spartans (10:30p.m., Friday, January 5 FS1) The Spartans surprised many teams last year under Tim Miles, but they have not gotten off to a strong start this season. It is tough to win at that campus and I do not see the Spartans doing much during conference play. Boise State has a strong team this season and they cannot afford any more bad losses this season and will win this game by double digits. Do not miss out on Doc’s Sports weekend card featuring an 8-unit FCS Play on Sunday along with basketball and hockey winners.
