Memphis applies to a very good 53-9-1 ATS conference tournament final situation and my ratings favor the Tigers by 15 points. I’ll take Memphis in a 3-Star Best Bet at -14 points or less and for 2-Stars at -14 ½ or -15 points.

Michigan State continues to thrive as a medium favorite (now 77-19-2 ATS when favored from 4 to 11 points) and the Spartans apply to a 115-40-3 ATS conference tournament situation today. The Spartans beat the Buckeyes by 9 points on the road and by 11 points at home and they’re a good bet to win by around 10 points again today. My ratings favor the Spartans by 7.3 points, so the line is fair, and I’ll take Michigan State in a 2-Star Best Bet at -8 or less and for 3-Stars at -7 or less.

Analysis:
Bruce Weber went a quite amazing 112-28 (.800) his first four years at Illinois, including the team's 37-win season of 2004-05, in which the Illini lost in the national championship game to North Carolina. It all fell apart last year though, as the Illini went 5-13 in the Big 10 and finished 16-19 on the season. However, it should be noted that Weber and his team showed "the heart of a champion" by beating Penn St, Purdue and Minnesota in the Big 10 tourney last year, before falling 61-48 to Wisconsin in the title game. Gone from last year's team were its two big men, Pruitt (12.6-7.3) and Randle (9.4-5.5) but two little-used freshman from last year, the 6-9 Davis (2.6-1.8) and the 7-1 Tisdale (3.6-1.7), have thrived as sophomores. Davis has become the team's second-leading scorer (11.4) and its leading rebounder (7.9). Tisdale has averaged 10.7 PPG and 4.1 RPG. Weber knew he a good nucleus in his backcourt but the play of Davis and Tisdale is the main reason that the Illini enter this game 24-8 and are a 'lock' to get Weber his fifth NCAA bid in his five years. As for Purdue, much was expected from the Boilermakers this year and the team's second-place tie with Illinois (11-7) in the conference standings (Mich St was 15-3) was considered a disappointment. Painter had a terrific freshman class last year led by guard Moore, the versatile 6-8 Hummel and the 6-10 Johnson. Those players have all had solid sophomore seasons with Moore leading the team in scoring (14.0-4.8-2.9), the 6-10 Johnson (112.9-5.7) falling in line behind him and Hummel (11.8-6.4) leading the team in rebounding. Purdue has an eight or nine-man rotation with guards Jackson (5.8-3.5) and Kramer (5.0-2.8) joining the above three in the starting lineup. Key reserves are 6-4 junior guard Grant (8.2), 6-9 senior Calasan (6.8-3.0) plus senior guards Green (4.3-3.8) and Riddell (2.6). Illinois started McCamey (11.9-4.8 APG), Meachem (9.9) and Frazier (5.7-4.8-5.3) in the backcourt along with Davis and Tisdale in every game this year (Brock at 4.7 PPG, was the team's top reserve). However, the Illini's assists and steals leader, Chester Frazier, will miss the conference tourney after having surgery on an injured right hand. Frazier was named to the league's all-defensive team this week and leads the Big Ten in assists (5.3). He also led the Illini in steals (43) and minutes played (33.2). Illinois' 60-50 win over Michigan on Friday marked the first time in 30 games that Illinois used a new starting lineup, this time without Frazier. That forced all five Illini starters (Brock started for Frazier) to play 30 minutes or more. Meanwhile, only Moore played more than 30 minutes for Purdue on Friday, as the Boilermakers bested Penn St, 79-65 (Hummel had 20 points, Moore 15 and reserve Grant, 15 as well). This fact alone gives Purdue a pretty big edge in this game but it's also relevant that Illinois was the only Big 10 team to beat Purdue twice this season. What's more, Frazier was a big reason for that success. He's the team's emotional leader and best defender. The Boilermakers average 69.6 PPG on 45.2 percent shooting (35.3 on threes). However, the Illini have throttled them in both games. Purdue was the nation's 9th-ranked team when it hosted Illinois on Dec 30 but the Illini held the Boilermakers to 38.1 percent shooting in a 71-67 overtime win. In the rematch at Illinois on Feb 8, Purdue shot just 32.2 percent (an abysmal 2-of-15 on three pointers) and was held to a season-low point total, as the illini won 66-48. Purdue couldn't be happier about getting a third 'shot' at the Illini, especially without Frazier. This is it! Conference Tourney GOY 20* Purdue.
