    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Turf Paradise - Race #2
#3 Husto He might be in a position to put this one away at the turn in, as he's got some pace and isn't meeting a ton of other serious speed. Something like the last might do if he doesn't take too much heat from the next guy.
#6 Biyombo He seems most likely to take the top choice on early, and his forward ability might hit a little harder while dropping in class in a significant enough way.
#4 Ima Rascal He has gone kind of evenly in those first two starts, but he's getting back down in with claiming company after that special weight try and seems like one to fear late.
Race Summary Husto is meeting a couple capable droppers, so I wonder if that might keep the price just playable enough. He might like this sharper trip in a spot without a ton of serious pace company.
    Turf Paradise - Race #5
#2 You'reinthearmynow He gets Lasix while moving to the lawn for the first time, and he has already proven a really good fit at this level locally. Think he's the right one.
#6 Well Imagine That He ran well enough while no serious threat in that stakes try last out over the main track here, and he seems like the type of horse who might like the move to the turf. Makes sense.
#1 David's Faith He finished in front of the top choice on the main track last out, and he might be in line for a cozy trip from the inside. One of the ones.
Race Summary You'reinthearmynow should be right up on the splits while moving around two turns on the turf, and he seems like a decent lean in this third start off the break.
    Turf Paradise - Race #9
#8 Coastal Waters He goes second off the layoff after turning in a decent tracking effort here a few weeks ago, and he probably doesn't have to move forward too much today to stay in the mix.
#4 Ted He's another making his second start back, and his typically dangerous pace should have him among the leaders into the far turn, but he probably has some company near the top.
#1 Brother Reid His only local try didn't produce much, but he has found some better form since then and looks competitive if he can hold the running lines from the last few in Southern California.
Race Summary Coastal Waters might have enough upside in the second start back to make him one of the logical players, and he might get a great trip while spying a couple of speedier players.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Parx - Race #2
#1 CAPTIVATING CARA (5-1) Third against track bias two back at 6-1/2F, class drops for new barn.
#6 FAIRY DREAMS (4-1) Can make maximum use of her speed for high-percentage claim barn.
#2 BOCA ROYALTY (10-1) Won under same conditions Dec. 20, rallied for share in 3 of 6 since then.
Race Summary CAPTIVATING CARA chased on the rail two starts back in a long sprint and was no match for winning favorite Liberty Flame (19/4-4-4, $194k) and six-figure earner Just a Nyquist at Aqueduct on a day when several winners took the outside route. Bet to win and place and play a 1-2-6 exacta box.
      Parx - Race #3
#7 LOVELY CHARM (9-2) Must correct gate woes in first long sprint attempt, all-or-nothing type.
#2 ALMA BRILHA (7-2) Rallied for share in first pair, raced far back and wide in last two starts.
#5 MOLLY MALONE (4-1) Ambitiously placed in latest, second in short and long sprints prior.
Race Summary LOVELY CHARM took a left turn out of the gate, ranged up 4-wide on the turn and raced erratically while fading in the stretch in a well-bet debut two starts ago. She added blinkers but bumped a rival and lost the jockey at the start of her second $20,000 claiming sprint. Bet to win and place.
      Parx - Race #5
#6 FINE WHINING (3-1) Should go well at maiden-breaking distance, switches pilots again.
#3 MAKE A SPLASH (5-1) Romped at 1M, made moves when in money in longer routes, shortens up.
#7 SECRET TEMPTATION (12-1) Plagued by wide trips from similar posts, use underneath in gimmicks.
Race Summary FINE WHINING raced wide just off the leaders but lacked late kick in a short sprint last out. She appears rounding to a winning race for Ness and could hold a tactical edge over her main rivals. Bet to win and place and play a 3-6-7 exacta box.

            Race 5 - Claiming - 7.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $21000 Class Rating: 56

FOR FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE FEBRUARY 26 ALLOWED 3 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $7,500.

            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 4 LITTLE NUTTER 9/2
            # 6 FINE WHINING 3/1
            # 3 MAKE A SPLASH 5/1
My selection for this race is LITTLE NUTTER. Should be given consideration here on the basis of the figures in the speed department alone. Is hard not to consider given the company run in as of late. Facing a much softer bunch than last time out. FINE WHINING - Reason to like this filly as she has in the saddle one of the best jocks using winning percentages over the last month. Has to be given a chance based on the decent speed figure recorded in the last race. MAKE A SPLASH - Must be given consideration based on the competitive speed figure recorded in the last contest.

              Turf Paradise - Race #2 - Post: 1:57pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $15,000 Class Rating: 64

              Rating:

              #3 HUSTO (ML=3/1)

HUSTO - The rest of the bunch may trail this mount all the way around the track. This front-runner should profit from today's shorter trip. This colt is back in a race very quick. This is a great angle - Sprinters that come back in less than 10 days after a race. A good sign of a sharp and ready racehorse. PP data show this thoroughbred with three improving speed figures. Morales should be on a live one in this event.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #6 BIYOMBO (ML=2/1), #4 IMA RASCAL (ML=5/2), #2 OUTOFQUEMADO (ML=5/1),

BIYOMBO - Hasn't been on the Turf Paradise oval in the last few weeks. Cause for some concern. Today's event is 5 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint event in the last two months. Not the best of signs. IMA RASCAL - Didn't show much last out. Probably won't make an impact in today's race. This horse probably needs a more conducive pace situation to make his late rush. OUTOFQUEMADO - Generally I need a sprinter to have some success lately in short distance contests in order to bet on him. This gelding gave a less than rousing performance last time out of the box.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - HUSTO - Has been racing regularly since a 'vacation'. According to my data, horses hit their peak cycle in their 3rd or 4th race back. Watch out for this thoroughbred in today's race.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 HUSTO is going to be the play if we are getting 1/1 or better
              EXACTA WAGERS: None

              TRIFECTA WAGERS:

Race 2 - Maiden Claiming - 250y on the Dirt. Purse: $6500 Class Rating: 80

QUARTER HORSE 250Y, FOR MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $12,500.

                RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                # 7 RYDER UP 4/1
                # 3 FIRST DOWN COURT 8/1
                # 5 DS SQUEEZEME 5/2
I've got to go with RYDER UP. By Ryder Rite, has a clear advantage in the bloodlines - brothers and sisters have ran soundly as two-year olds. Sire's numbers - Ryder Rite - support this pick. Reason to like this gelding as he has in the irons one of the best jocks using winning percentages over the last month. FIRST DOWN COURT - In a juvenile contest if you see the name Dominyun in the sire line you know you have a definite contender. There is a solid chance that this entry's late pace will improve on Lasix. This conditioner has produced entrants that have consistently produced quite good board hit percentages in their first contest. DS SQUEEZEME - Cabrera has solid numbers that point to this colt to be a solid contender.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #2 - Post: 1:22pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $21,500 Class Rating: 68

                  Rating:

                  #6 DANCIN' ROSIE (ML=4/1)

DANCIN' ROSIE - Taking a trip to a lower level; has the form to make her presence felt. This thoroughbred ran off the board at Mahoning Valley Race Cour last time out on a muddy track. She should improve today without the off-track conditions. Ranked numero uno in earnings per race. Another notice that this horse is the class of the race.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #3 JETTIN PEGASUS (ML=9/5), #5 BOOGIE BOOGEE (ML=5/2), #1 COWCHI (ML=6/1),

JETTIN PEGASUS - I just don't possess a 'use' intuition about this vulnerable equine in this affair. BOOGIE BOOGEE - In any race of 6 furlongs, I like to bet on a contender that has been sharp in sprint events recently. Hard to invest in a vulnerable equine that lays up for a long time then doesn't finish in the money off the extended rest time. Don't feel this horse will make a winning move in today's event. That last speed fig was mediocre when compared with today's class rating. COWCHI - 6/1 odds isn't enough for this entrant when looking at the most recent efforts.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #6 DANCIN' ROSIE on the win end if we get at least 1/1 odds
                  EXACTA WAGERS: None
