This is a young Kansas City team with a fragile ego. When they get on a roll and play with confidence, they seem to over-achieve. When they get in a rut and begin to pile up the losses, they seem to struggle mentally. They had five streaks last year winning five or more games, but they also had losing streaks of seven, seven and 12 games. They are looking similar here this year as they won six in a row, and have now hit the rut losing four straight. The Royals have pitched well along with Bannister, but he is still a career 4.61 ERA pitcher with a team that is in a rut right now. The Royals seem to feel the pressure against the poor teams on the road as they have been 22-51 on the road in their last 73 vs a team with a losing record. Royals floundering and Oakland gets the call.

I know the Mavs showed a lot of heart to win Game 4 at home to stay alive, but the Nuggets blew a double digit lead in that game. They won both Games 1 and 2 at home by 14 and 12 points respectively and I expect the Nuggets to take care of business by double digits to close this series out in front of its home fans tonight. Expect another huge game from Melo as the only Mavs player with half a shot at guarding him, Josh Howard, is hobbled with two bad wheels. Plus, the awesome Denver bench likely gets The Bird Man back tonight. The Nuggets feel like they really squandered an opportunity to get the job done in Game 4 and they won't squander another one tonight. Here's the clincher: Denver is 10-1 ATS as a home favorite of 6.5 to 9 points this season, winning these games by an average of 15.1 points. Take the Nuggets!

The D-backs have lost 8 of 10 now and they don't give themselves much of a chance tonight with Brian Augenstein taking the mound. I expect him to get knocked around in his MLB debut. The Reds are an impressive 12-5 on the road this season and have long had Arizona's number, winning 10 of the 14 meetings the last 3 seasons. The Reds have won 5 of 6 and 9 of their last 13 and should be in good hands tonight with Cueto taking the mound, as he is 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA on the season and an even better 2-0 with a 0.46 ERA on the road. I'll back the Reds tonight.

They have the big advantage with Bannister on the hill, who is 3-0 with a 1.48 ERA this season. In fact, the Royals are 5-0 in Bannister's last 5 starts, 4-0 in his last 4 starts as a road underdog, and 9-2 in his last 11 road starts vs. a team with a losing record. The Royals are 6-1 in their last 7 meetings with the A's, and I expect their bats to get going tonight against struggling southpaw Josh Outman as the Royals are 8-3 in their last 11 road games vs. a left-handed starter.
