T.Covers MLB Big Ticket Total (63-35 MLB Season) 6/6/09 Daily Selection
6/6/09 MLB Big Ticket: Oakland Under 9 -110 (980)
ANALYSIS: Baltimore hasn't been able to hit their way out of a wet paper bag in recent ballgames; a very young lineup struggling with their ability to hit on the road against quality pitching. The Orioles have scored two runs or less in all four games on their current west coast swing; managing to produce a grand total of six runs in their last five games.
Don't expect the Orioles bats to come alive today against Trevor Cahill and the emerging Oakland bullpen behind him. Baltimore is hitting just .229 against righties in their last ten games, with a similar batting average on the road for the entire season. The A's young rotation is on fire right now, allowing just three earned runs in their last 36 innings of work, with each starter looking to outpitch the guy that came before him. This type of chemistry and camaraderie is a tremendous boost for any young staff, and Cahill has certainly bought into the program; allowing two earned runs or less in six of his last seven starts. Expect more of the same tonight.
The A's offense has come around in the last week, but Oakland still remains at or near the bottom of the majors in offensive category after offensive category -- runs, batting average, extra base hits - you name it. Expect runs to be hard to come by tonight against the Orioles impressive rookie Jason Berken. In two previous big league starts, Berken has been stellar, allowing only three runs in 12 innings of work. The young righty is worth our support here against a lineup he should be able to dominate. Take the Under.
