BIG AL's #1 INTERLEAGUE GAME OF THE YEAR!
At 1:35pm our selection is on the Atlanta Braves over the
Boston Red Sox.
Even though he sports a 6-2 record, Red Sox newcomer/2009 free agent pick-up Brad Penny has to be considered somewhat of a disappointment so far this season. Penny has an ERA just shy of five runs and even against the lowly Nationals, the 10-year veteran righthander couldn't throw a quality start or collect a win for his team (although the Red Sox did win that game despite Penny giving up all of the Nats' runs in the first 5 2/3 innings). Penny has struggled mightily on the road this season with a 2-1 record and 5.21 ERA in seven starts away from Fenway Park. Coming from the National League, Penny is plenty familiar with this afternoon's venue. Unfortunately, the story is not particularly good there either, as in 11 career appearances at Atlanta's Turner Field, Penny has only won twice and has an ERA of 5.13. If the Sox are going to leave inter-league play on a winning note, they will have to slow down one of the fastest-rising rookies in baseball, Atlanta's young-gun righthander Tommy Hanson. Hanson has back-to-back scoreless performances, and the last one was particularly impressive as it came last Tuesday against the New York Yankees. The Braves, also, are 100% perfect (4-0) in Hanson's starts. Finally, for all of their success this season, the Red Sox are barely above .500 on the road.
