        Dr. Bob

This game is probably best left alone, as my math model gives Arkansas State a 58% chance to cover at +2 points while UL Monroe applies to a very strong 102-38-1 ATS home momentum situation. Arkansas State has lost all 3 of their games against Division 1A opponents, but the Redwolves have faced a tough schedule of teams in Nebraska, Troy State, and Iowa, who they almost upset. Both teams are better than average offensively and struggle on defense so there should be plenty of points. I'll lean with Arkansas State and Over 53 points looks like a profitable investment.

My 20* SBC Game of the Month is on Ark St at 8:00 ET. UL-Monroe gets a rare opportunity for some national exposure tonight, as the Warhawks host the Red Wolves of Arkansas St (good nicknames, if nothing else, in the SBC). Charlie Weatherbie is in his seventh season at Monroe and after going just 25-45 in his first six years, has the Warhawks at 3-2 in begin 2009, including 2-0 in SBC play (tied with league-favorite Troy). Steve Roberts is in his eighth year at Jonesboro, never going better than 6-6 ('05, '06 and '08) but only once going worse than 5-7 (3-8 in '04). He led the Red Wolves to the SBC title in 2006 and into the New Orleans Bowl (lost 31-19 to Southern Miss). Ark St returned a veteran offense and defense this year but also opened with a brutal schedule. After beating Miss Valley St 61-0 on Sep 5, the Red Wolves have lost 38-9 at now-No. 15 Nebraska, lost a back-and-forth 30-27 decision at home to the SBC's best team (Troy) and then lost just barely at now-No.11 and unbeaten Iowa, 24-21. QB Trey Revell lost his job in mid-2007 to Lancaster who started ahead of him all of last year. He's done a good job as the team's starter in 2009 (59.1% / 208.2 YPG / 7-4 ratio) and accounted for three scores in ULM's recent 48-35 win over FIU. The Warhawks own a very good running game behind a veteran OL (208.6 YPG / 5.6 YPC / 13 TDFs) with Frank Goodin (461 YR / 5.6 YPC / 8 TDs) leading the way. Goodin had 163 YR in the win over FIU and also added three TDs. However, the D (despite nine returning starters), is allowing 31.4 PPG. While Monroe fans are labeling tonight's game as "ESPN2 on the Bayou," I believe they'll go home disappointed. Ark St QB Corey Leonard had a 16-8 ratio last year and while he has just four TD passes so far this year, he also has just one INT in 97 attempts against the likes of Nebraska, Iowa and the SBC's best team, Troy. Senior RB Arnold topped 1,000 yards rushing in each of his first three seasons and while he's not "tearing it up" so far this year, one must note the quality of competition he's faced. Leonard and Arnold could easily have their best games of the '09 season against a very shaky UL-Monroe defense and remember, the Warhawks' three wins have come overTexas Southern plus FAU and FIU (combined 1-8), with FIU winning only against Western Ky (owners of CFB's longest active losing streak / 13 straight!) . While Ark St still has another BCS school left on its schedule (at Louisville on Oct 31), the Red Wolves could easily win ALL their remaining SBC games. In order to do that, they must start here and that's EXACTLY what I expect them to do! CFB Tuesday Game of the Month 20* Ark St.

          Good Luck...Larry
