Bob Valentino Thursday's 25 Dime ACC winner ...
25 DIME: FLORIDA STATE (on the money-line vs. North Carolina)

NOTE: This play is on the Seminoles to win OUTRIGHT. So the play is on the money line, not plus the points!

          Karl Garrett
Karl Garrett 30 DIMER - FLORIDA STATE....10 DIMER - NY YANKEES (Burnett over Lackey) 30 DIMER - FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES

The difference in this game is going to be the fact the Seminoles can score, and the Tar Heels cannot.

North Carolina has scored 12 points in a win over UConn, 7 points in a loss at Georgia Tech, and 3 points in a loss to Virginia! The Heels have offensive issues, as their "O"-Line has been injured pretty much all season long, and their rushing attack is averaging just over 100 yards per game.

UNC may be able to muster a little more tonight, as Florida State has been a joke this season on defense, but can the Tar Heels stop the Seminoles when they have the ball?

I don't think they can stop them enough to get the cover, let alone the win. The Seminoles scored 54-points in their upset win at BYU, and while the Heels only scored 7 versus G-Tech, State scored 44.

North Carolina is just 5-6 against the spread as a home favorite under Butch Davis, while Florida State is on an 8-4 spread run their last 12 when catching points on the road.

I will take the small number they are giving, and would not be surprised at all by a Seminoles out win for their beleagured coach tonight.

10 DIMER - NY YANKEES (Burnett over Lackey)

With A-Rod swinging the bat free-and-easy, getting through the Yankees lineup has become an issue for the Angels pitching staff, and tonight John Lackey will be no exception.

The other Yankee hitters started to connect on Tuesday with some quality at bats as well, as Cabrera drove in 4 on 3 hits, and Cano also rapped out a few base knocks. That is going to be trouble tonight for LA, as the Yankees are wanting to fly back home and have the weekend off before taking on the Phillies next Wednesday in the World Series.

Lackey is going to be his usual tough self, but I think Burnett is capable of matching pitches with him as long as he avoids that one wild streak he always seems to have.

I know the Angels have given the Yankees problems in the past, but this year is different you could see that by how New York responded after losing Game 3, as they cam right out and rolled the Halos 10-1 on Tuesday. The Yankees pen is well rested, and tonight it is lights out for the Angels.

Thhhhuuuhhh Yankees win, thhhhuuhhh Yankees win!

                Wunderdog

Game: New Jersey at New York Rangers (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: Game Total UNDER 5.5 -120

The Rangers have had a busy schedule early as this will already be their 10th game, and it has suited them well at 7-2. The Devils have taken their lumps at home at 1-3, but have won all three on the road. The Devils are getting good play on the defensive end, but struggling on offense. This has led to a deadlock of eight goals for and allowed over their last four games. The Rangers rested Lundqvist in their last game vs. San Jose, which didn't work out very well as they allowed seven goals. Lundqvist has been very steady as he has not allowed more than three to pass him in any of his seven starts. The Devils tighten up after a win as they have played 8-1-2 to the UNDER after posting the W, while the Rangers have really tightened things up after a big home disgrace of three goals or more by following with an 8-0-1 UNDER mark their next time out. This game has marked signs to be tight and low-scoring, so I'll play the UNDER here.

Wunderdog from a friend of IWS.

Game: New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on New York Yankees +100 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3)

The Angels have reached the brink as they are now in sudden death with the Yankees. The Yankees are looking like the Bombers of old, getting big hits and more importantly, getting the top of the rotation pitching that was missing over the last several years. One of which is tonight's pitcher AJ Burnett. Burnett has led the Yanks to a 2-0 mark behind his 2.19 post-season ERA, and the Yanks have now won each of his last five starts. Over his last six outings, Burnett has been on his game allowing just two runs or less, pitching to a 2.15 ERA. The Angels’ lineup is struggling mightily as a team that averaged well over five runs per game, has topped that total just one time in seven playoff games, and none vs. the Yankees. That becomes more problematic as their opponents have scored at least four runs in each of the last five games. The Yanks have the horse that can give them 6+, and the ultimate closer with Rivera that would likely pitch the eighth and ninth innings after an off day, and another coming tomorrow. I like the Yanks to close it out tonight.

                              Randall the Handle

San Jose -½ +1.11 over TAMPA BAY (REG) Pinnacle

The3 Sharkies are an offensive juggernaut and that alone makes them extremely difficult to beat. It’s just so hard to outscore this team and to make things even tougher, its defense is good and its goaltending is very good. The Sharks can almost always be counted on for four or more goals and it’s hard to envision the Lighting containing them. Tampa has dropped two straight and were outscored 11-2 in those contests. Mike Smith has gone Vesa Toskala on his teammates and his confidence is completely shot. Now with a slew of snipers aiming his way, his chances of a good game are slim at best. The Lightning has two wins this year, one against the Canes and one against the Panthers. When playing quality they’ve been buried, as their 7-1 loss to the Pens, it’s 4-1 loss to the Sens and it’s 6-3 an loss to the Thrashers will attest to. The Lightning are reeling and although they may eventually snap out of it, it’s doubtful that’ll occur tonight against a team that appears about 100 times hungrier than the Bolts. Incidentally, LeCavalier is still without a goal this year and has not scored in 14 games dating back to last season. Play: San Jose -½ +1.11 (Risking 2 units).

PHOENIX +1.13 over Detroit (REG) Pinnacle

This line is based on past histories because if you go by this year, the Red Wings should not be favored. Detroit is playing .500 while the Coyotes are 5-2. In three games away from the Joe, the Red Wings are 0-3 and in it’s only true road game of the year, in Buffalo, the Red Wings lost 6-2. Meanwhile the Coyotes have won three in a row against San Jose, St. Louis and Boston. In fact they shutout the Sharkies and you may not see that again this season from anyone. They’re playing tremendous defense, Bryzgalov has been brilliant and the Coyotes are really limiting the opposition’s shots on net. In fact, in five of its first seven games they’ve held the opposition to 26 shots or less. Chris Osgood has been shaky (he’s just not that good) and that alone gives the Coyotes a great chance to win. Throw in the fact that they’re paying better than Detroit and they’re at home and one can see where the value lies in this one. Wrong side favored. Play: Phoenix +1.13 (Risking 2 units).
