6* Widow Wiseguy GMAC Bowl "Total" BLOWOUT on CMU/Troy OVER 63(-106 at 5dimes)

This game features two of the best offenses in the country. Troy puts up 33.1 points/game while Central Michigan is at 33.2 points/game for the season. Both squads love to pass the ball, especially Troy who averages 331 passing yards/game. Central Michigan is very balanced, posting 245 passing yards and 173 rushing yards/game. The Troy defense allows 278 passing yards/game, so expect Central Michigan to easily top their season average, and for Troy to keep pace. Troy is 9-1 OVER as an underdog over the last 3 seasons. Take the OVER.

4* on New Jersey Nets +14(-109 at 5dimes)

Atlanta has lost 4 straight games. Now is the time to fade this team as they are starting to come back to the field in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta is 15-32 ATS (-20.2 Units) in home games when playing against a terrible team (Win Pct. <=25%) since 1996. Though they have lost 4 straight, the Hawks will find it hard to get motivated to play the Nets tonight at home. They have Boston coming up next at home, so this is certainly a look-ahead game for the Hawks. Take New Jersey and the points.

              4* on Louisville -3.5(-108 at 5dimes)

At 10-4 this season and coming off a loss to Kentucky, we fully expect a great effort from Louisville tonight as they get back on the winning track at Providence. Louisville is 5-0 SU & 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings with Providence. Louisville is 17-5 ATS (+11.5 Units) in road games over the last 3 seasons. The Cardinals are 12-3 ATS (+8.7 Units) as a road favorite or pick over the last 3 seasons. Take Louisville and lay the points.

              4* on Georgia Southern -3(-105 at 5dimes)

Chattanooga is a very inexperienced team this season, with no starters back from last year's squad. That's why they have struggled on the road with a 2-4 record away from home this year. Georgia Southern is 3-2 at home this season where they have certainly played their best basketball. Southern is scoring 84.2 points/game at home, where they are outscoring their foes by 8.4 points/game. Take Georgia Southern and lay the points.

              4* on George Washington +3(-105 at 5dimes)

George Washington should not be catching points at St. Bonaventure. They are 10-3 this season while the Bonnies are 7-6. St. Bonaventure is 23-42 ATS (-23.2 Units) after a loss by 15 points or more since 1997. St. Bonaventure is 2-11 ATS (-10.1 Units) as a home favorite of 3 points or less or pick since 1997. George Washington is 11-2 SU & 10-3 ATS in their last 13 meetings with the Bonnies. Take George Washington and the points.

Take Indiana Hoosiers (7-6) +13vs. Ohio St. Buckeyes (10-4)
Location:* Value City Arena - Columbus, OH** Time 8:30pm EST
                          TELEVISION:* BIG 10 NETWORK
EVALUATION:** Both of these teams have lost their top scorers for the season, with Evan Turner (OSU) being injured 7 games ago against Eastern Michigan, and Maurice Creek (IU) being injured just two games ago against Bryant.* Turner is going to be missed a lot more now that the BIG 10 schedule has begun for the Buckeyes who have already lost two road games in the conference to Wisconsin and Michigan.* Ohio St. had been rolling in their early non-conference schedule, and now they have lost half their games since Turner's injury (3-3), also the Buckeyes have only been scoring just under 64 ppg without Turner. * Indiana head coach Tom Crean has to be happy the way his Hoosiers have been playing so far, as they went .500 play in their non-conference schedule, and opened BIG 10 conference play with a big win over Michigan at home.* The upside for the Hoosiers is that they have scored at least 65 points in every game they have played this season, which means if this holds up that the Buckeyes have to put up over 80 points to cover this number.** They Buckeyes are capable of this, they have only put up over 80 points 4 times this year, and lets say those teams are no where near the competitive level that Indiana plays at.* Against better competition this year the Buckeyes have only been scoring about 64.4 ppg against teams such as North Carolina, California, Butler, Wisconsin, and Michigan.* * Now we are not putting Indiana in those teams league, but their huge win over the surging Pittsburgh Panthers shows that Indiana can play good basketball against top competition.* Only two teams have beaten the Hoosiers by over 14 points and both teams were Top 25 teams when they played.* Mississippi won by 18, and Kentucky smacked the Hoosiers 90-63 back on 12/12/09.* The only thing we don't like, is that Indiana has played a majority of their games at home this year, and this is only their 5th game away from the Assembly Hall in Bloomington.* In those 5 road games, the Hoosiers lost that game to Mississippi in the San Juan, Puerto Rico shootout.* They also lost to George Mason by 3 in that same tournament, and they sandwiched between those two losses a win against Boston University in that same tournament. The Hoosiers then shocked a lot of people with a huge win over Pittsburgh in a Neutral Court game in Madison Square Gardens.* * The Buckeyes are 10-1 SU at the Value City Arena, and are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games. We do expect the Buckeyes to win this game, but we expect it to be closer than 14 points.
PROJECTION:*** Ohio St.* 71** Indiana 67

                          OTHER BEST BETS:
Take Charlotte (10-3) +12 vs. Tennessee Volunteers (10-2)
LOCATION: Thompson Boiling Arena - Knoxville, TN** Time:* 7:00pm EST
EVALUATION:* This game is all about the Volunteers, and how they are going to handle being shorthanded on the bench and on the court.* Four of Tennessee's players were arrested, and have been suspended indefinetly by HC Bruce Pearl; after a traffic stop and arrest the day after beating a fairly good Memphis team.* Tyler Smith, Cameron Tatum, Melvin Goins, and Brian Williams were those four players and they average 33ppg out of 81 ppg that the Volunteers normally average.* We just don't see how the rest of the Volunteer team is going to make that up.* All four of these men saw substantial playing time and they were all in the top 8 average scorers on this team.* Charlotte had been on a really good non conference schedule run with their only loss coming to Duke prior to the game before Christmas break.* They then lost to Old Dominion in that game before Christmas break 48-81 and came back from Christmas break with a win over Mercer, and a loss to Georgia Tech 67-76.* Charlotte is 3-2 SU on the road, with big wins over Louisville and Hofstra.* What we don't like is those two losses to Duke and Old Dominion were blow outs where they lost by 41 and 33.* We expect Charlotte to show up enthused tonight, and Tennessee to be a little flat with all the turmoil in the program right now.
                          PROJECTION:* Tennessee 68* Charlotte 63*

                            Rick Lang - "Bettor Moves"

                            COLLEGE BOWL GAME

(GMAC Bowl) – Troy (+3) vs Central Michigan – The Troy Trojans were 8-0 in the rugged and competitive Sun Belt this year, and though that conference doesn’t often get as much mid-major coverage as Central Michigan’s MAC, in-the-know scouts tend to believe that overall the potency of the Sun Belt might be a tad higher. Obviously Chippewas signal caller LeFevour will be the focus tonight (41 TDS on the season – 27 through the air & 14 on the ground) but Trojan counter-part Levi Brown might be the most underrated QB in College FB in 2009 as he broke Troy and Sun Belt records with 3,668 yards passing. The belief here is that CMU, without HC Jeff Quinn (took over for the departed Brian Kelly at Cincinnati…who was himself replaced by Quinn here in 2006) might be a bit behind the curve in adjusting to Troy’s difficult to stop spread offense, therein allowing the Sun Belters to match Lefevour and company point for point. Take the 3 points in an outright Troy Win.

                            COLLEGE HOOPS

Seton Hall (+7.5) at *UConn – 9:00 pm (e) – Seton Hall was down 10 points with a minute left against West Virginia and sent it to overtime. Instead of bouncing badly they took Syracuse to the end before bowing out and in Cancun on Saturday were down 5 with 36 seconds left before extending Virginia Tech to OT. Coach Bobby Gonzalez says, “sooner or later we gotta win one of these.” They’ll do that before they quit. Take the points.

UNLV (+9) at *BYU – 10:00 pm (e) – These two Mountain West rivals always hook up in a dandy. Last year the Rebels won here by 4 and at home by a point. Is BYU better this year…yes…but the Rebels had won 5 straight before suffering a one point loss to the smothering defense (held Arizona St. to 35 last time) of USC on Christmas day. The Rebels can score and BYU won’t harass them as the Trojans did. Plus BYU’s early success has made them a bit pricey. Take the generous points.

Citadel (+7.5) at *Appalachian State – 7:30 pm (e) – Once the Bulldogs got into conference play last year they were one of the best kept dog play secrets until into February. They’ve been in and out this year, but still know the workings of the host Mountaineers well enough to keep this one close against that defensively suspect group. Each enters tonight’s Southern Conference play 1-1 in the league so it goes right to the wire. Take the points.

*UNC-Wilmington (-6) vs Georgia State – 7:00 pm (e) – After suffering devastating injuries last year the Seahawks got the troops back this year, but getting familiar with one and another and a brutal pre-conference schedule that included the likes of Wake Forest, Penn State, Miami and more didn’t reflect well on the W-L statement. But Monday night’s SU win at a very solid William & Mary as a 9 point dog could very well be the buy sign against an inconsistent and poor travelling Colonial rival. Lay the points.

                            NBA HOOPS

*Utah Jazz (-5.5) vs Memphis Grizzlies – 9:05 pm (e) – This is the NBA isn’t it? So believe it or not, tonight is the night in the cycle where the Jazz…losers of two straight at home tighten up and leave it all on the floor vs a Memphis Grizzlies team that comes in with three straight road wins, the last two as a dog. Young Grizzlies get a little full of themselves and the Jazz knuckle down. Lay the points.
