    vegas-runner | CFB Total
    free pick 268 Alabama / 267 Texas Over 45.5 Bookmaker.com
    Analysis:
*** BCS FREE TOTAL PICK ***

If I am able to Confirm this before "Final Update"...then we will go ahead and add this Bet to Tonight's Premium Card...Otherwise, I will simply use it in some parlays with the rest of tonight's bets...

Bottom Line here is "Value"...With all the talk about the 2 teams defense, we are getting a good number on this Total...Texas is the 8th Highest Scoring Team in CFB...and Alabama is the 25th...

Finals have a tendency to get out of hand, especially if one team is able to get well ahead of the other...We've seen it in Super Bowls, National Championships, ect...

Last year's National Championship, the Total Opened at 71..and the year prior, at 51.5...So I really think that anything less than 47, offers up some nice value on the OVER...

I will work on confirming this bet...and try to make it Official...Best of Luck, VR

          **Randizzle's BCS National Championship**

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          TEXAS (13 - 0) vs. ALABAMA (13 - 0)
** BCS National Championship Game - Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA **

It seems that not a lot of people are giving the Longhorns, or the Big XII Conference much respect in this game. I'm assuming it is because of The longhorns last showing was mediocre at best, and Alabama's Win in dominating fashion. But, if we always based the present game off of the past game, it is obvious none would be successful is Sports Wagering.

McElroy has proven himself to be an efficient passer, and clutch QB in the past few weeks. He has only thrown 4 INT's on the season, and has become a "Winner". Colt Mccoy on the other hand is coming into this game off of a 3 INT 184 Yard showing against what I would consider the best defense in the nation. (Nebraska) However, let's not forget Mccoy Knows how to win. He is the most Winning College QB of ALL-TIME, and has never lost in a Bowl Game. Yes, he’s 3-0, completing 88-of-129 passes (68%) for 896 yards with five touchdowns, one interception, and with 72 rushing yards and two scores. I'll favor with the QB who has been in pressure situations and proven he can get the job done. McElroy is good, no doubt, but I would much rather have McCoy taking my snaps.

When it comes to the Running game, it is 100% obvious who has the advantage. Ingram and his Heisman Trophy are coming into this game, and Texas WILL have to shut down the run in order to have ANY chance at ALL. Although Ingram has the Heisman, I believe the biggest threat in the backfield is Richardson. The kid is a beast. That's the only way to put it. He is faster and stronger than Ingram, and if he would've received the amount of carries Ingram had this season, he would've actually Earned the Heisman. (Gerhart got screwed) Texas on the other hand takes a backseat in the running game. They do overcome this issue with a VERY efficient short passing game. While they take a backseat, let's not forget that they do average 4.1 YPC and have 28 rushing TD's this season.

Julio Jones is one of the top NFL prospects in the nation. The combination of his size and Marquis Maze's speed, McElroy has a potent receiving core. However, their passing game takes a backseat to the run game, and I believe they do not utilize that talent efficiently. Texas on the other Hand has an incredible sixth-year senior (Jordan Shipley) who runs silky smooth routes, and is electrifying in the return game (cheesy I know). But it's true.He caught 106 passes for 1,363 yards and 11 TD's this season. Also, Malcom Williams (who many of you probably overlook) could be a big factor in tonight's game. At 6-3 220lbs and a Great Speed did not have a big year, but has stepped up in recent games accumulating 15 catches, 235 yards and a TD in the final 2 games of their season. Again, Texas has the edge here simply because of their offensive scheme.

Texas arguably has the Best D-Line in the Nation. Ranking No.1 in the Nation against the Run. (A good thing facing Alabama). The Ends are solid in Sam Acho and Sergio Kindle with an inside rotation that is next to none: Kheeston Randall, Ben Alexander, Lamarr Houston and Tyrell Higgins. Alabama D-Line is lead by Terrance Cody, who is about the size of Texas. Alabama's strength comes in the second and 3rd level of their D.

McClain!!!! Everyone and their dog talks about how GREAT this guy is. Rubbish!! Yes, he has a TON of talent, and is ONE of the best in the nation. But no way he is the best. Simple fact is he is the best linebacker on the most televised team and has Terrance Cody directly in front of him to clear the way for easy tackles. You could plug a number of guys around the country in his spot and they would produce just as good, if not better. He will be a huge factor in this game, and could determine weather or not McCoy can move around outside of the pocket. But i'm tired of hearing about this guy. The Longhorns have a solid group of LB's to go along with that top-tier D-Line.

Not real sure who has the better secondary. If texas can force Alabama to throw down the field, advantage = Texas. They have 24 INT's this season, and great cover corners. Curtis Brown can hang with almost anyone in terms of speed and athleticism, and Safety Earl Thomas needs no introduction. He is to be feared, and if he has a big day, Alabama will be in for a long-night. Alabama's best attribute coming into this game is that they shut-down the short passing game VERY Well, allowing only 48% completions.. (What Texas specializes in) Something has to give in this faucet of the game.

Overall, I believe these ARE the 2 best teams in the nation, and it WILL be a battle. Personally, I am going with QB, D-line, and big play ability.

          5* Texas +5

                    K. Bales 100* Alabama-4
                    100* Alabama -4

Defense wins championships and this Alabama squad is not only the best
defense in the nation but one of the better ones I can remember in a
long time. The Crimson Tide are ranked 2nd in rushing, passing
efficiency, scoring and total defense. They are the complete package.
Texas does have a great offense but the Longhorns have struggled
against adequate or better defenses, namely Colorado, Oklahoma State,
Oklahoma and especially Nebraska (only 202 total yards) in the Big 12
championship. If Alabama can shutdown the offenses of Arkansas, Ole
Miss, and Florida in particular, it should able to do the same against
Texas. There has been a lot of talk about the inexperienced Greg
McElroy, but you have to remember this guy is 29-0 as the starting
quarterback dating back to high school. During the season when he was
coming under fire he responded by completing more than 63% of his
passes, averaging nine yards per attempt, throwing eight touchdowns
and just one interception in his last five games. During that stretch,
he led a comeback win against LSU, was almost solely responsible for
defeating Auburn and was MVP of the SEC title game against Florida.
Texas allowed several quarterbacks to enjoy fine passing performances
this season, including Taylor Potts of Texas Tech, Oklahoma freshman
Landry Jones and Texas A&M’s Jerrod Johnson. If this trio can have
success against the Longhorns, so will McElroy. And this is if Texas
can manage to stop Mark Ingram. When this team can open up their
game with the run and pass they are almost impossible to stop and with
this team on the big stage tonight you will see one of their finer
performances. My final point is that Nick Saban is one of the best
big-game coaches in college football (11-7 ATS against top-10 teams).
Saban has the reputation of being successful if he has a good team,
time to prepare and something to play for (unlike against Utah in last
year’s Sugar Bowl loss). This was the case in 2003 when a
Saban-coached LSU team, a 7-point underdog, dominated Oklahoma in the
Sugar Bowl, winning the national title. Texas’ Mack Brown (only 8-10
ATS in bowl games) did win a championship four years ago but, this
year, he faces an SEC school with simply a better coach than him. An
SEC team has won the last three BCS title games straight up and ATS.
Better competition = better teams. Bama will have no trouble against
                    Texas tonight.

                        Bobby Flanagan

                        3* Texas/Alabama Under 46

Both offenses have been potent by respectively averaging 40.7 PPG (Texas) and 31.7 PPG (Alabama). This isn't going to be the high scoring affair some may think most Championship games turn out to be. We have two defenses that are superior, 15.2 PPG (Texas) and 11.0 PPG (Alabama).

You have to figure the Alabama game plan will be to pound it to the running backs all night long and keep Colt McCoy on the sidelines. Coach Nick Saban will keep Greg McElroy on a short leash tonight to try to avoid any mistakes. I see a very conservative game plan being run tonight by Saban and let the defense win the game for them as they have done all year.

The Texas defense doesn't get the same respect as the offense but let us look at how they have fared in spotlight games. Their two biggest games were against Oklahoma and Nebraska and they held them to 13 and 12 points. Alabama wants to run the ball but Texas is giving up just 62 rushing yards per game. That is going to be a great matchup.

The Alabama defense has been great when they had to step up in spotlight games. We saw them hold Florida to 13 points, the same Florida team that was 10th in the nation in scoring. They held Arkansas to 7 points who was the number 9 scoring offense in the nation this year.

Texas has a questionable running attack to maintain against this tough of a front seven. They love to pass the ball but the Alabama secondary is amazing holding opponents to just 163 passing yards per game. Oklahoma and Nebraska were the two toughest defenses the Longhorns played all year and they scored just 16 and 13 points in those games.

The Alabama defense is even better than those two. Look for a low scoring old fashioned defensive showdown tonight.

                        3* Jacksonville St +3

The home team is 7-0 ATS in the last 7 meetings and Eastern Kentucky has dropped their last four meetings here. This is one of the those good old trap games where it looks like cake laying just 3 points with a 10-5 team against Jacksonville St. with a losing record.

Eastern Kentucky has only won a single away game in six attempts this year and I don't think they get it done in this game. The main culprit for the 5-8 Jacksonville St. record is they are 0-5 on the road but maintain a solid 5-3 record at home. I'm not buying into the trap of the road favorite and I think Jacksonville St. has an excellent opportunity to win this game outright.

Jacksonville St. shoots much better at home and their road stats are what has taken a toll on their yearly numbers. We'll get a good showing from the home dog in this and I have a very good feeling they get another home win tonight.

                        3* Lasalle +4

Here we get to play against another false road favorite. I'm from Ohio and have spoke to my sources back home and Xavier is going to struggle tonight. Xavier has not won a road game this season and I don't think they beat Lasalle tonight.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt of playing three good teams away from home but I've liked Kimani Barrett from Lasalle since last year. He is a steady player that contributes 15 points a night and he is a like the Scottie Pippen to Rodney Green who is averaging 18 points a night this year. Green has been averaging double digits since he was Freshman. This is Green's year and his team and I don't think he lets them down.

This was the year we all had high expectations for Lasalle to be a competitor in the Atlantic-10 with these two guys back but they have dropped five games already. They only lost one home game this year and that was to Cornell who gave Kansas a scare last night.

I had Lasalle penned as my sleeper in the Atlantic-10 because they return five starters that are all seniors. I think the slow start to the season put a damper on things but if they compete tough in conference play they have an outside shot of making the Tournament for the first time since 1992.

We'll take the home dog led by five seniors who are returning starters to protect their home court against Xavier who lost their three best players and coach from last year's 27-8 team.

Play: Alabama -4 (4.5 Dime POD) Under 46 (2-Dime Bonus)
Comments: FREDDY WILLS: Alabama -4 (4.5 Dime POD) Under 46 (2-Dime Bonus) Well these two teams are as even as you get on paper. Both solid offense, solid defenses, solid special teams and solid coaching. Normally in a situation like this you go with the under dog, but I just can't buy into a Texas team that has shown far more problems this year than the Tide. It just seems like that special year for Alabama and I'm a believer in that. Alabama first off has faced a stronger schedule don't let anyone kid you on that. Particularly their defense has faced a 45th ranked rushing offense while Texas #1 run defense has faced the #74 attack. It's a mirage on the surface because Alabama who is going to run the ball goes up against a very talented front, but just how talented? Texas has been tested by just three decent running teams and those three were not close to what Alabama can do with their strength. Alabama offense ranked slightly lower than Texas has faced a much much more challenging defense out of the SEC ranked #48 int he nation compared to Texas who has faced #76. And again it's the strength of the Texas offense that I can not take seriously here as they have faced an opponent with a average 76th pass defense. Maybe it is because so many Big 12 teams love to pass that the defense are under rated, but even so Texas has played only two defenses this year that are the caliber of an Alabama. Those two are Nebraska and Oklahoma. Those two games Texas I believe should have and could have easily won the game. I believe Alabama's defense is better than both of those teams and the offense may just be too. Nebraska held Texas to 13 points and sacked McCoy 9 times while Oklahoma held them to 16 points. Alabama has been tested all season by top defense and this won't be anything new to McElroy and the crew. McElroy is under rated the guy has faced six top 20 pass defenses. I think he can beat Texas under neath throwing to Marquis Maze as the Longhorn secondary full of sophomores will have their eyes on the all world talent in Julio Jones. Alabama has faced six top 27 defenses many in the area that Texas is in. They averaged 24 ppg in all six and when they faced a Kentucky team that was 18th in pass defense they put up 38 points. I can see Alabama scoring around 24 points which should be plenty to win this game.Alabama has been tested offensively too facing three opponents in the top 22 in offense and a three more in the top 50. Against the three top 22 offenses they held them to 13.67 ppg proving they can play in the big game that includes holding the Gators to 13 points in the SEC title game.Texas on the other hand has not fared well against good offenses. They faced four top 26 offenses and gave up 24 points on average including 39 to Texas A&M team. There were many QB's that beat Texas all year long making them suspect against the pass. The fear you should have if you are going to back the Longhorns is they have not faced a rushing team as good as Alabama all year long. They have not faced an offensive line as talented as Alabama that is where the difference will be. As I mentioned above against top offenses and top defenses Alabama seemed to play their best with a +10.33ppg advantage while Texas seemed to play worst scoring 14.9 and giving up 24. Bottom line is Texas won those games, but they have yet to play a team that can play offense and defense well outside Oklahoma but Oklahoma didn't have their best player on the field as he got injured in the first 5 minutes of the game. What Texas does well is throw those short range passes and I look for McCoy to get picked off a couple times once maybe by the best linebacker in college football in Rolando McClain. He's best at dropping in coverage and should have an opportunity to make big plays here. With Cody at 6'5 and 354 int he middle making Texas unable to run the ball a one dimensional team.
