Analysis: Let's start off with a little injury report... Wichita will be without Gabe Blair and David Kyles tonight. These guys aren't much more than role players, they both get around 20 minutes per game, and have double digit scoring capability, but average around 5 or 6 points on the year. Without these guys on the floor Wichita is forced to play only 7 players. They do not have a deep bench, and it just got shorter. Using simple theory, a short bench obviously equals fatigue. Missouri St. knows that, I know that, Wichita knows that. Now don't misunderstand fatigue; this does not mean scoring comes to a hault, in fact it's the opposite. When a team is fatigued they suffer defensively; getting back on defense, rebounding, keeping people out of the lane are the issues will see Wichita have tonight. Any time one side is fatigued, you'll always see the opponent increase the tempo, Missouri St. will do that tonight, no doubt.

Last time these two teams played it was a 66-64 final, no question i expect another close one tonight. Keep in mind, Wichita only shot 37% that night. This is one of the most efficient offenses in the conference, they shoot a high percentage, get to the line a lot, and straight up make buckets. For them to have such a terrible shooting night, and still find a way to score on this Missouri St. squad is very promising for tonight's game. Both these teams are lights out from the free throw line, and we always see conference tournament games called a bit tighter by the referees. In a close game, we obviously have the opportunity for some free throws down the stretch, but I think we'll see them throughout the game as both these teams have some speedy guards that love to attack the paint (especially Wichita).

It's tough to convey just how confident I am in a total play, mainly because I have no sense or lean about who will win this game. What i know is that Missouri will speed up the tempo due to Wichita's lack of depth, Wichita will struggle on defense as a result of the fatigue, both teams will get to the line plenty, and the efficient offenses will have no problem pushing this one into the high 130's. Wichita is a team that definitely doesn't shy away from a fast game, they've played plenty of games in the high 70's this year, if MO St. pushes them into this style, they will fall for it, trust me.

We went AGAINST the Bears of Missouri State last night in the Opening Round of the MVC Tourney. The PURPLE ACES of Evansville may have lost outright... but they DID the cash as they were Underdogs of +9.5 points. We'll be fading the Bears tonight for the seco~nd day in a row based on some very profitable 'play against' ATS ammo....

Double-REVENGE may have worked in the Opening Round... but not tonight!
That's because UNDERDOGS in Round One of the MVC Tourney have gone 8-25-2 ATS when Playing with 'SSR2' (same-season DOUBLE Revenge). That's the case for Missouri State tonight... as they lost each of the two regular season meetings to the Shockers of Wichita State. We also note that 'shorter' Dogs of < 7 points have gone 2-10 ATS in this situation (Mizzou State).

Now let's look at teams that WON an Opening Round game... and come into Round One with NO rest.
5-16-1 ATS: All MVC Tourney FIRST-ROUND teams playing with NO REST and off a SU win (Bears).... versus any opponent also off a SU win (SHOCKERS). And once again, 'shorter' Dogs of < 7 points (Bears) have gone a PERFECT 0-4 ATS since 1999.

Wichita State closed the regular season wit ha big win over Southern Illinois by a score of 76 to 55.
6-1 ATS last 6 years: All MVC Tourney FIRST-ROUND favorites playing off a SU win of 20 or more points (SHOCKERS).

As mentioned in the current Playbook basketball newsletter, #2 SEEDS have done very well in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
#2 SEEDS have gone 31-17-1 ATS in the MVC Tourney (WICHITA STATE).... 16-7 ATs since 2002.... and 5-1 ATS in the First Round. We also note that the BEST situation also comes in to play tonight: 7-0 ATS since 1999 for all #2 SEED teams (SHOCKERS) playing an opponent that's off an ATS loss (Bears).
