            Monday's Lineup

            20 Dime – SIENA

            10 Dime – NETS

SIENA --- Gonna side with Siena here as I believe they have been the best team in the MAAC all season and there's no reason to think they shouldn't close out the season in style... with a Conference Tourney win. This team won the conference regular season crown with a startling 17-1 record and tonight face the team that finished second... a full four games behind Siena in conference play. The fact that Siena didn't lay down and "take it easy" down the stretch when they knew they had the regular season title caught my attention. It would have been easy for them to take a few games off, but they knew they had some unfinished business to take care of in the Big Dance and they wanted to be 100% ready come tourney time.

Siena is a fun team to watch, as they can beat you with defense, they can beat you up and down the floor or they can beat you with ground and pound. Doesn't seem to matter what style they play... they just get the job done. What's not to like? Their starting five was named to either the first, second or third "All Conference" teams and one guy could actually be named Conference Player of the Year. This team is loaded with seniors and three of them have been part of 93 wins and combined for 4,521 total points, 1,882 rebounds and 1,196 assists through last week. The Saints have strung together four consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in the school's history and are the only team in the country with four players averaging at least 14 PPG. Not only that, but they lead the nation in fewest fouls committed per game. What's not to like? They're playing this tourney on their home floor vs. a team they beat twice this season and five straight times. No offense to Fairfield, but they will run out of gas down the stretch and the Saints should win this thing by at least 10.

NEW JERSEY NETS --- Yes, I know it seems crazy to back a bad team like this, but sometimes you have to just pick your spots. Look, it's fairly obvious every team in the NBA laughs at these guys and often times overlooks them. And why shouldn't they? They are the doormat of the league and are on pace to set the all-time record for worst record ever. But that doesn't bother me when you give them this many points. I think you can still get fairly solid value by backing the Nets, especially when you get them on the road. Are the Grizzlies really 10 points better than New Jersey? Maybe, but that's still too many points for a team that is 18-14 to be giving anyone. New Jersey has won two of the last three matchups against the Grizz and come in with revenge on their minds while having just beaten New York by 20 on the road. They might have a horrible road record this year, but that doesn't mean they don't have some semblance of talent at every position on the floor. And remember, they got Courtney Lee back from his injury and Devin Harris is finally starting to play like a true point guard. Don't get me wrong... I think Memphis will win this game but I like taking NBA dogs when they are getting double digits... or at least close to double digits. I side with the lowly Nets in this one.

                VALUE CHALK WINNER

                400? NEW ORLEANS HORNETS

New Orleans - The Hornets have plenty of hope they can climb back into the playoff picture, and if they're going to do it, it'll take games like tonight to elevate the confidence level.

I know New Orleans has lost four straight, but they've come against Memphis, Dallas and San Antonio twice. The last time it won was against defending Eastern Conference champion Orlando, which just knocked off the defending NBA champion Lakers yesterday.

And this is the perfect opponent to right the ship against, as Golden State will be playing its fifth straight road game over the past seven days. It's a trip that has spanned Miami, Orlando, Atlanta and Charlotte - all losses. The Warriors are 1-18 on the road since Dec. 11.

After this game, the Hornets will be traveling for six of seven with the lone home contest coming against Northwest Division-leading Denver. New Orleans will also face only seven teams with losing records in its final 19 games. Point is - the Hornets have to win these ball games against cupcakes if they're going to make a run at the postseason.

Checking the series numbers, it's clear which way to go, as the Hornets have won the last two meetings and five of the last seven; the home team has won three of the last four, with the lone visitor winning was the Hornets on Jan. 27 in Oakland, 123-110.

I know the Warriors are one of the league’s highest-scoring teams with an average of 106.8 points per game, but they're going to be too tired for this one.

I'm laying the chalk with no problem in this one.
