Larry Ness | NBA Sides Mon, 05/17/10 - 9:00 PM ƒŠ

      triple-dime bet 502 LAL -6.0 (-110) BetUS vs 501 PHO
Analysis: My 10* PERFECT STORM is on the LA Lakers at 9:00 ET.
The Western Conference finals finally get underway tonight in LA (9:00 ET on TNT). The Suns haven't played since May 9 and the Lakers since May 10. The Lakers found themselves tied with the youthful (and talented) Thunder after four games of their first round series (1-3 ATS) but LA's won six straight games since then, going 5-1 ATS while averaging 107.2 PPG. Kobe averaged just 21.8 PPG through his first five postseason games but has reached 30 points in each one of his last five, averaging 32.0 PPG. The Lakers have a solid eight-man rotation but there can be little doubt that Gasoil has now joined Kobe as one of the NBA's elite players. He destroyed the Jazz (23.5-14.5) and is averaging 20.2-13.1 while shooting 56.4 percent from the floor this postseason. LA's "length" is an issue for most teams (Gasol, Bynum and Odom) and it will be a major challenge for the Suns. Richardson (21.9 PPG on 51.0 percent shooting) has led the Suns in scoring this postseason with standby's Stoudemire (20.5-7.0) and Nash (17.8-9.0 APG) still making major contributions. Phoenix goes eight-deep (like LA) and after losing its first game of the postseason at home to the Blazers (105-100), has won EIGHT of its last nine (also 8-1 ATS). The Suns got their season turned around right before the break with a 5-1 SU and ATS spurt. They then DIDN'T trade Stoudemire and went 23-6 SU (20-8-1 ATS) after the break. Throw in the team's 8-2 SU and ATS mark this postseason and the Suns have gone 36-9 SU and 33-11-1 ATS ove€r their last 45 games. No one can be sure how the time off has affected each club, so I won't try to guess. However, one would think that the time off has helped Kobe's gimpy ankle and arthritic finger. The gash over Steve Nash's right eye also should be one week 'better' as well. The Lakers have made a point (at least Kobe has) of the 2006 and 2007 playoffs, when the Suns eliminated the Lakers. Since then, the Lakers have been to two straight NBA Finals, winning the title last year (LA is 25-3 SU at home in the postseason since '08). Game 1 is HUGE, because as everyone knows, Jackson-led teams are 46-0 in a series after winning Game 1, including 22-0 with LA. Lay the points.

      Good luck...Larry
