          GREECE +1.74 OVER Korea Republic

Greece hasn't won a match in 2010 of any kind. Granted they have only played exhibition matches since beating Ukraine in 2009 to qualify for this World Cup. Now they’ll open up against a very tricky Korea Republic who plays a very organized team game. Like Korea, Greece, when on it's game, plays a sound team game, as they have no choice without any real superstar in the lineup. Greece will try to score one goal and than frustrate the opposition with it's stifling defensive play. Greece will rely heavily on its captain and best player Giorgios Karagounis. As he goes so does Greece. Together he and the Greeks still quite possibly have one more good run left in them. In this close match, look for the Greeks to score a narrow victory. Play: Greece +1.72 (Risking 2 units)

            HOT LINES

            Today's Best MLB Bets

Philadelphia Phillies at Boston Red Sox (-155, 10)
There has been more excitement among Phillies fans than in the team’s lineup these days.

Between people running out onto the field and being Tasered, to purposely puking on little girls, to toddlers taking swigs out of beer bottles, it’s a good thing the Philadelphia faithful have a lot to offer because fans surely aren’t getting their kicks watching the offense.

After getting blanked by Florida Thursday, the Phillies have been shut out a total of seven times this season. The slump the team’s offense has fallen in has produced an UNDER record of 15-5 in Philly’s last 20 games.

"When you don't score, you're not going to win the game," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "I never thought about getting shut out that many times."

Manuel has juggled the lineup about all he can, even dropping Jayson Werth completely out of it for nearly a week. Werth returned last night and went 0-for-3.

These two offensive juggernauts can no doubt put up runs but with the way the Phillies offense is trending these days, a double-digit total is just too high. Also, the three-game series between these teams in May witnessed an average of 7.33 runs per game with two going under.

            Pick: Under

Texas Rangers at Milwaukee Brewers (-110, 10)

Who would have thought a little ‘ole toe would have ignited the Rangers offense?

Ten games ago, slugger Josh Hamilton phased out the “toe tap” in his batting swing. He and Texas hitting coach Clint Hurdle have been working on it since the spring and Hamilton was finally able to break the habit.

Since making the adjustment, Hambone is hitting .436 with four homers and 15 RBIs. The lefty has driven in at least one RBI in seven straight games.

"We're swinging the bats really well over the last few weeks, doing what we're capable of doing," third baseman Michael Young said. "If we keep improving on offense, we'll be in great shape at the end of the year. We're having good at-bats, working good counts, and finding ways of putting runs across."

The Rangers posted 12 runs in each of their last two games versus Seattle and are averaging 7.4 runs per outing over a 10-game period. Texas will be without its designated hitter during interleague play on the road but should continue to roll in hitter-friendly Milwaukee.

            Pick: Texas Rangers

                triple-dime bet 908 BOS (-150) Sportbet vs 907 PHI
                Analysis:
-150 is pretty much the limit for me in terms of what I’ll put on a favorite, but in today’s Phillies/Red Sox matchup at Fenway, that number is a steal. Blanton has a 6.07ERA in 7 starts. He has a 7.71ERA in his last 3 outings. Opponents are hitting .288 off of him. He has a 6.75ERA at Fenway over the last 3 seasons in 12 total IP. The Phillies have lost 13 of their last 18 ballgames and have averaged 2.3 R/G over that stretch. Daisuke has 3 quality outings in his last 4 appearances, including 8 scoreless 4-hit innings v Cle last time on the mound. That stretch began w Daisuke nearly no-hitting these same Phillies, allowing 0 runs in 8IP on just 1H. Daisuke is holding opponents to a .228BA. The BoSox are 17-5 v Phi in the„ir last 22 meetings and are 6-1 at Fenway over that span. Daisuke has a 3.92FIP despite an extremely shaky start to his 2010 season. Blanton has a 5.57FIP. Grab the Sox. Let’s not overthink this one and get in the way of making ourselves some money.

                  Analysis:
2** UNDER the TOTAL / Oakland Athletics w/ Sheets @ San Francisco Giants w/ Zito / 9:00pm ET

Bruce Davidson will be working in the Bay Area, and he's on a VERY similar run as Joe Wolf. He's the #2 UNDER Umpire for the year with a 20-11 O/U record... and only 6.9 runs per game. And his current streak is 0-8 O/U in his last 8 games (since early May) and counting (with only 5.3 runs per game). His historical numbers are as solid as Joe Wolf's too. Davidson has gone 27-52-3 O/U in the last 3 seasons, and his K/BB ratio also fits right in at 2.1 to 1. He'll be aided by another series history with low-scoring results (8-21-2 O/U last 31 meetings IN San Francisco). The host Giants are on a current run of 6-19-3 O/U in their last 28 home games. That includes 4-15-2 O/U at home vs WINNING teams... and 5-14-1 O/U vs righties. The visiting Athletics are 0-6-1 O/U in their last 7 vs Southpaws.

                  Analysis:
1** UNDER the TOTAL / Seattle Mariners w/ Lee @ San Diego Padres w/ Leblanc / 8:35pm ET

Joe West has been one of the most vocal Umpires thus far in the 2010 season. He likes to work a quick game, and comes in with a 4-9 O/U record on the season, which is not bad. But he's gone a perfect 0-4 O/U in his last 4 overall... with an average of 5.4 RPG. Also 1-5 O/U in his last 5 INTERLEAGUE games. We will be playing on a series history which has seen the Under cash at a 75% clip when playing IN San Diego. Four KEY Padre trends ALL indicate a low scoring result: Padres are 1-12 O/U on Saurdays... 0-6-1 O/U vs great pitchers with a WHIP of < 1.15 (Cliff Lee)... 0-4-1 O/U in their last 5 vs Southpaws... and 0-5 O/U in their last 5 roles as a home dog.

                  double-dime bet 915 FLA / 916 TAM Under 8.5 Bookmaker.com
                  Analysis:
2** UNDER the TOTAL / Florida Marlins w/ Nolasco @ Tampa Bay Rays w/ Garza / 7:10pm ET

We'll be getting behind THREE top-notch 'UNDER' Umpires on Saturday. In fact, they're ranked #1, #2, and #3 on the year! They come in on a combined streak run of 0-23 O/U. Jim Wolf (in Tampa) comes in on a unreal run of 0-11 O/U in his last 10 games. He hasn't gone Over since his FIRST game of the year. Vocal Joe West will be working in San Diego on a current 0-4 O/U run in his last 4 games. And in San Francisco, Bob Davidson is on a current streak of EIGHT straight 'Unders".

In the Marlins / Rays game, we note that Joe Wolf's record on the year is 1-11 O/U. Avg runs scored in his games is only 5.3. That's a full 1.5 runs LESS than any other Umpire (#2 is Paul Emmel with 6.8 RPG). When we look for a low-scoring Umpire, we want to se a K / BB ratio of 2 to 1 (or more). And we certainly have that in Wolf, who averages 16.3 K's per game and only 5.3 BB's (3.11 to 1 ratio). His overall strike percentage of 64.7% is also a string indicator of low-scoring results. Other pertinent data for Wolf includes a 1-4 O/U record in his last 4 INTERLEAGUE games... and 0-3 O/U in INDOOR parks (only 4.3 RPG) over the last 3 years. In NL parks, the numbers are average (26-26 O/U L3Y)... but in Amercan League parks, the results are 14-31-1 O/U in the same time frame.

                        KICK AND PICKS

                        Saturday’s Best World Cup Bets

                        South Korea vs. Greece

Bettors have to ask themselves whether Greece’s shocking Euro championship in 2004 was a one-time fluke or if Otto Rehhagel’s side can be successful using the same defensive discipline and opportunistic counter attack.

If recent results are any indication, soccer punters should consider the magic at Euro 2004 to be a one-time deal. The Greeks lost 2-0 to Senegal and Paraguay and only managed a 2-2 draw against North Korea. Even more telling, outside of their matches in Euro 2004, Greece have lost 10 of their last 12 matches at international tournaments.

South Korea’s outlook is much brighter. They have depth and quality among their forwards with Manchester United midfielder Ji-Sung Park leading the way.

Greece’s conservative approach can sometimes bait opponents into taking silly risks but don’t expect South Korea to bite.

We like the under but not at the price most books are offering it at. Take South Korea and sprinkle a bit on the exact score at 1-0.

                        Pick: South Korea (+162)

                        Argentina vs Nigeria

All the talk around Argentina involves their inexperienced manager Diego Maradona. For all his brilliance on the pitch as a player, Maradona’s managerial talents are modest to say the least.

But an embarrassment of riches in terms of world-class players has the South American team among the favorites to win this year’s World Cup.
And with good reason. La Albiceleste boast the world’s best player Lionel Messi along with some of the top marksmen of the past soccer season - Carlos Tevez (29 goals with Manchester City), Gonzalo Higuain (29 goals with Real Madrid) and Diego Milito (30 goals with Inter).

Nigeria will cede possession and load up around the box and try their best to take away space from Argentina’s deadly group of forwards. That task became even more difficult when the Super Eagles lost Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.

Expect Maradona to temporarily silence his critics with an impressive offensive assault against the Nigerian side.

                        Pick: Over 2.5 (-120)
