Seeing some value here with the Snakes Sunday, as they try and avoid the dreaded 4-game sweep at the hands of the Giants. At first glance, this look like a gimme, with ace Lincecum on the hill against the rookie Enright, but if you dig a little deeper, you start to see a much more difficult match up than most bettors are anticipating.

First thing that stands out is the line. We're talking about Tim Lincecum here. Price seems a little too cheap if you ask me, especially the way the Giants have taken care of business in this series. Enright has been good in his limited action, but something's fishy about a rookie getting this kind of number against the reigning two-time Cy Young Award winner.

One reason I expect Lincecum will run into trouble today is his last start vs the Diamondbacks. The Giants ace inconsistent ways began with an awful effort against this very same Arizona club on this very same field May 20th, yielding 5 runs over 5 innings with 5 walks. Say what you will about Arizona, but their offense does hit righties well at Chase, batting .280 and averaging 5.6 runs per game.

Barry Enright is coming off the best start of his young career, holding the Mets scoreless for 8 innings with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk Tuesday. He's been solid since getting a shot back in late June, and his numbers don't lie (2-2, 2.66 ERA). Wins at Busch and his most recent effort against the Mets should have the young righty pitching with a lot of confidence today. He also doesn't have to worry about pitching to Pablo Sandoval, who's traveling to Venezuela for personal reasons. Look for the Snakes to avoid the sweep, as Lincecum's inconsistent way continue. Arizona (Enright) over San Francisco (Lincecum) Sunday.

          BRICKYARD 400
          NASCAR Betting Preview And Picks
          By Greg Engle

          NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

After a rare off week, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series gets back to action this week and heads to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Brickyard 400.

But this is more than just another race. Sure, the points in the season championship are the same as any other race, but winning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is an accomplishment that a racer in any form of motorsport wants to have. Because of that, look for everyone in the field to put forth a little extra effort Sunday to try and earn a chance to ‘kiss the bricks’.

That tradition is something that my top pick for this week, Jeff Gordon (+800), has done four times in his career, more than any other driver in NASCAR.

There is, though, one new variable this weekend. For the first time, NASCAR’s new generation stock cars have abandoned the wing for a spoiler. Some have speculated that the spoiler has changed the fortunes of several drivers since it was introduced in the spring. According to Gordon though, the spoiler shouldn’t be a big factor come Sunday.

“I like the spoiler.” Gordon said this week. “I like what it's doing to the cars. I like the way it looks. But from a performance standpoint, you know, it's very small change in performance. “

A winning plan will have to include Sunday will not only be performance, but reliability as well. And reliability is something Gordon and the No. 24 team has shown this season. Coming off the momentum of a third at the last stop in Chicagoland, look for them to be the ones to beat Sunday.

You certainly can’t count out last year’s winner. Jimmie Johnson (+400) has three wins here including back to back victories in 2008 and 2009. But unlike last year, there have been some chinks in the once seemingly impenetrable championship armor. So while he can’t be counted out, Johnson will be the hunter instead of the hunted this weekend.

          Others To Watch

          Kevin Harvick (+1200)

Harvick won here from the pole in 2003. In addition to his win and the one pole, he has three top five and six top 10 finishes at Indy. So far this season Harvick has been leading the points for longer than at any other time in his career; combine that with his on-track success this season and Harvick will definitely be a threat Sunday.

          Tony Stewart (+1000)

Stewart is the one of the clutch players in NASCAR. When the odds seem to be at their lowest is when Stewart seems to shine. After growing up near the track and beginning his career in Indy cars this place holds a special place in his heart. After scoring two wins here, Stewart is able to back up that sentimentality with results; in addition to his two wins, he has five top five and seven top 10 finishes. Look for him to give that little extra this week as he tries to finish in front.

          Head To Head Picks

          Denny Hamlin vs. Kurt Busch

Hamlin has one top five and two top 10’s here while Busch has one top five and three top 10 finishes. So far this season both drivers have had some great runs. Hamlin has had the better year to date but Busch has the added pressure of working for Roger Penske who has enjoyed success at Indy on the open wheel side; look for Busch to step up his game in order to impress his boss and finish ahead of Hamlin this week.

          Kyle Busch vs. Jeff Burton

Both have near equal records here; Busch one top five and three top 10s while Burton has one top five and four top 10s. Busch wants to win everywhere as does Burton, but Burton and his Richard Childress Racing team have shown more consistency and Burton himself more tenacity; look for Burton to prevail in this showdown.

Kansas City +2.60 over NY YANKEES Pinnacle

It’s just a baseball game. It’s not a playoff game or it doesn’t have any special significance other than A-Rod pressing for #600. It’s not a pitching mismatch and it’s not like the Royals aren’t dangerous. Yeah, KC loses a lot of games but this is a team that unlike Baltimore and Seattle can score runs. When you have a team that can score and the take-back is this high, they’re worth a wager, especially when you consider the recent fate of Phil Hughes. Hughes is a misleading 11-3. Hughes is 1-2 with a 6.85 ERA in his last four starts and he’s 0-1 with a 10.57 ERA in two career starts against the Royals. What’s even more disturbing than that is the quality or lack thereof of his last 10 opponents. In fact, over his last 10 starts, Hughes has faced Baltimore twice, Seattle twice, the Mets twice, Cleveland, Houston, Toronto and the Angels. Five of those seven teams (Houston, Toronto, Seattle, the Mets and Cleveland) are at or near the bottom of every offensive category including team BA and runs scored. The other two, Baltimore and the Angels aren’t far off. Prior to this year, Hughes has never pitched more than 86 innings in a single major-league season and now he’s in unchartered territory with 106+ innings and counting. He’s been getting torched recently and it could happen again today. Meanwhile, Sean O’Sullivan just pitched against the Yanks last week as a member of the Angels. He went six full and allowed just two hits and two runs and the Angels won easy, 10-2. Oh, BTW, that was against Hughes. The second time around is a different deal and while you can’t expect the same success out of O’Sullivan, this isn’t about wagering on him. This is all about talking back 2.60 against a guy that is blowing up. Play: Kansas City +2.60 (Risking 2 units).

                    Washington +1.30 over MILWAUKEE Pinnacle

Ross Detwiler makes his season debut here and replaces Luis Atliano in the rotation. Detwiler is a former first-round pick and last February he had right hip surgery. He’s been very sharp in the minors with a 2.27 ERA over eight starts. The Nats were very cautious with Detwiler in his first four rehab starts, as he was lifted after four innings in each one. However, he subsequently got stronger and threw a combined 17 innings in his last three starts, topped off by a seven-inning, five-hit shutout in his last start on July 21. Covering 32 innings over his minor-league rehab assignment, Detwiler struck out 31 and walked just seven and he’ll face a Brewer team minus Corey Hart again. The Brewers have won just six times in 19 games that Dave Bush has started. That alone makes the Brewers an unnecessary risk laying 38¢. Bush was ripped apart in his last start in Pittsburgh when he allowed 10 hits and nine runs in four frames before being lifted. Bush is an average pitcher at best with a BAA of .287 and while he’s capable of keeping his team in games, he’s also capable of getting rocked, as he has already done so in numerous games this year. Play: Washington +1.28 (Risking 2 units).

                    Toronto over DETROIT

There is no line at the time of this writing, as these two will play a double-header today. However, we like the Jays in both games and as soon as the match-ups and lines come out, we’ll update this.
