Kyle Davies is in good current form for the Kansas City Royals, while Jason Vargas has been solid for the Seattle Mariners all season, so do not look for much scoring in the Emerald City Sunday afternoon.
Davies has now allowed three earned runs or less in five of his last six starts, and he allowed only four runs in the lone non-quality effort during this stretch. He is also a perfect two for two in Quality Starts vs. the pathetic Seattle lineup this season, allowing a grand total of three runs and five hits in 12 innings over those two outings with 10 strikeouts. This runs his steak of Quality Starts vs. the Mariners to three going back to his last start last season.
There is no reason why Davies cannot continue to succeed here vs. a Seattle offense that has continued to struggle, averaging a microscopic 2.90 runs over their last 10 games! This latest stretch now leaves the Mariners dead last in the Major Leagues with a dreadful .236 team batting average.
Despite that terrible offense, Vargas has managed to go 7-5 for the M’s, thanks to his fine 3.19 ERA in 21 starts covering 132.2 innings. Vargas has also maintained his fine form, as he has allowed two runs or less in four of his last five outings. The southpaw is facing a Kansas City lineup that is struggling vs. left-handed pitchers currently, batting just .235 against them over the last 10 games.
The Under is an excellent 33-20-3, 62.3 percent in all Seattle home games this season with those games only averaging 7.14 total runs per games, so look for more of the same here.

When the Red Sox meet the Yankees in Game Three of this four-game series in New York tonight they will do so knowing Josh Beckett has cashed in seven of 10 career starts in the Bronx. He is also 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his last four team starts and 5-1 in his last six road team starts.. With Beckett rounding back into solid KW form with four walks and 18 strikeouts in his last three starts, and Burnett in struggling form and 0-4 in his last four team starts during August, look for the Yankees to drop to 3-9 in Burnett's last 12 team starts here tonight. Back the better arm here this evening. We recommend a 3-unit play on Boston.
