                      Big Al

At 7:45 pm, our selection is on the TCU Horned Frogs minus the points over Oregon St. There's not much that can be said about TCU that hasn't already. The 6th-ranked Horned Frogs are absolutely loaded this season. Last year, Gary Patterson's men went 12-0 before losing to Boise State 17-10 in the Fiesta Bowl. That defeat to Boise created a lot of motivation over the summer to prepare for this season, and go undefeated. And with 16 returning starters back (9 offense; 7 defense), an undefeated season and a National Championship is not out of the question. TCU's strength under Patterson has been its defense, and it ranked #1 last year (239.7 yards against) in the country. Admittedly, TCU might not be as good this season, given the departure of DE Jerry Hughes and LB Daryl Washington, as well as CBs Nick Sanders and Rafael Priest. But its offense should be better than last year's edition, which ranked 7th in the nation in total yards. QB Andy Dalton will lead the squad, and his mobility makes him a dangerous dual threat on offense. This will be a particularly tough match-up for Mike Riley's Beavers, as they'll be breaking in a new quarterback in sophomore Ryan Katz. And his #1 target, senior WR James Rodgers, missed part of practice last week to nurse a bruised shoulder (though he is expected to suit up). This game will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX (just down the road a short ways from TCU's home in Fort Worth), and the huge capacity (almost double that of TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium) should fire up the Frogs. Oregon State has had its difficulties playing on the road to start a season, as it's 0-9 ATS its last nine road games in September, and 13-33 ATS since 1980! NCAA Roadkill on TCU. Lay the points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. And don't miss my other big plays this weekend, including my NCAA Rivalry Game of the Month, my NCAA High Roller and my Elite Info Winner.
