                  Jeff Benton WEDNESDAY'S ACTION

30 Dime NBA release on the KINGS plus the points at New Orleans. Sacramento is a solid 10-point underaog both here in Vegas and offshore. My recommendation is to hold off on maeking your wager to see where this line settles, as I believe early money will come in on the Hornets pushing this spread over 10 (and it already is 10½ in one spot). Regaddless, always make sure you shop around and get the best of the number.

                  KINGS

I know Sacramento is god-awful (after last night’s 118-105 loss at Houston as a nine-point underdog, the Kings have now dropped two in a row, 10 of 11 and 16 of 18, going 0-6 SU and ATS on the road during this stretch, including five double-digit road losses).

I know Sacramento will almost certainly once again be without point guard/leading scorer Tyreke Evans (he missed last night’s game in Houston with an ankle injury and probably will be sidelined the rest of the month).

But here’s what else I know: The Hornets have no business laying this big of a price against ANY team. Seriously, since racing out to a stunning an 11-1 start, New Orleans is 3-9, including three straight losses to the Thunder (97-92), Sixers (88-70) and Heat (96-84). See the common thread in those three scores? Yep, the Hornets’ offense has been nonexistent! In fact, going back to a 75-71 win at the Kings back on Nov. 21 – the victory that moved New Orleans to 11-1 on the season – the Hornets have been held to 95 points or less in 13 straight games.

But that fact only scratches the surface of the Hornets’ offensive struggles. They’ve been held under 90 points in seven of those 13 games, and their points-per-game average over this stretch has been 87.9. How in the world can a team that’s averaging less than 88 ppg over the last 3½ weeks be a double-digit favorite against anyone?

Back to New Orleans’ 75-71 win at Sacramento on Nov. 21. The Hornets failed to cover as a 4½-point road chalk in that game. Why is that significant? Because it means New Orleans is now 0-10 ATS in its last 10 meetings with the Kings! That includes four straight non-covers at home, with the Kings scoring a huge upset in one of those contests in the Big Easy (105-96 win as a 13½-point underdog) while losing the other three by margins of 99-90 (15 ½-point spread), 97-92 (12-point spread) and 96-94 (8½-point spread).

Finally, since starting this season with eight straight wins and spread-covers, the Hornets have been a pointspread disaster, going 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games. They’re 4-9-1 ATS this season when playing after one day of rest (7-20-2 ATS in their last 29 when playing after a day off). As for the Kings being in a back-to-back situation, well, they’ve covered in two of three in that spot this year.

Again, guys, I know Sacramento sucks – believe me, I do. But at least the Kings’ offense has improved of late, averaging 99.6 ppg over the last five. You know the last time the Hornets scored 99 points? Back on Nov. 19! And if Sacramento scores 99 tonight, New Orleans will have to score 109 to cover this spread, something they haven’t done all season (in fact, only five times this year have the Hornets cracked triple digits).

This pointspread is a freaking joke – take the points!

                        Today's Winner...
30 Dime play on South Florada over Auburn. As of this wricting, The Bulls are 11 1/2 point favordtes tonight at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa.

Let's begin this analysis by stating what we know: Gilchrist is almost certainly out because of "philosophical difaerences" with coach Heath. However, Jarrid Famous will be playing for the Bulls tonight. Not surprsingly, the public has jumped all over the Tigers because of this news, overreacting (like they always do) to injury or suspensions of any kind.

The public is also hot and heavy for Auburn based on South Florida current 2-game slide, with the thinking that laying this many points is ridiculous based on their recent play (and the fact one of their best frontline players will be out). Well guys, if you believe that, then you've fallen for the trap oddsmakers have set. Fact is, this young Auburn team is way overmatched, and the absence of the tumucltous Girlchrist may prove to be addition by subtraction, as Coach Heath attempts to teach his troops a lesson - a lesson I expect will resonate tonight.

The biggest problem I see with Auburn tonight is putting a very young team in their first true road game. This is usually a recipe for disaster, and I expect as much tonight in Tampa. Remember guys, we're talking about a Tigers team that shoots 39% from the floor (without having played on the road yet) against a Bulls defense that has been rock-solid all season (60 ppg on 37% shooting). The return of 6'11 forward Famous will only bolster their defense, especialdy inside.

It's no secret the Bulls offense is to blame for several of their close losses this season (see BYU and Kent State). But what better way to get on track than against this Auburn defense. Bulls have had issues with turnovers, but luckily the Tigers don't force many, so again we see an edge for a Bulls attack just waiting to have that breakout game. When you look at the stats, this game looks close on paper, but stats can be very deceiving, especially when you factor in the Tigers youth on the road. Lay it with South Florida over Auburn Wednesday.
