ARKANSAS vs. OHIO STATE
Sugar Bowl ... 8:30 Eastern
600% OHIO ST -3 over Arkansas
Everyone's aware of the 0-9 record Ohio St has versus
SEC teams in bowl games. Coach Tressel has 3 of those losses.
The key here is, his Buckeyes are playing an SEC team in a bowl game tonight
in a game that is not for the National Title.
Ohio St brings to the bowls the best all around team on both
offense and defense. They are the best defensive team in the country
as they give up only 94 yds/game on the ground and only
156 yds thru the air.
On offense, they average 220 yds/game on the ground
and 229 yds/game thru the air.
They are the only bowl team to have this type of balance
on both sides of the ball.
The 5 key players that earned suspensions have until next year to
concern themselves with that issue. If anything, it probably served
to keep the rest of the players in check during their final bowl preparation.
The Buckeyes have the chance tonight to give the
Big 10 Conference a well needed victory, and if they
have the opportunity to run it up, they will.
PREDICTION:
OHIO ST 38 - ARKANSAS 20
This game has all the intangibles to make this not only an Arkansas win, but an Arkansas blowout.
This Arkansas program is playing in arguably the second biggest bowl game in school history after the 1965 Cotton Bowl win over Nebraska that capped off an 11-0 season.
They are going up against an Ohio State game that is 0-9 against the SEC in bowl games. An Ohio State team that has five starters that should have been ruled ineligible for this game but instead are suspended for the first five of next year. An Ohio State team that is a touch overrated considering their offense isn't all it's cracked up to be.
The Big Ten has been outscored 138 to 45 in the last three bowl games against the SEC (Penn State vs Florida, Alabama vs Michigan St and Mississippi St vs Michigan), all on New Years Day.
Ryan Mallett versus Terrelle Pryor. One is going to be a first round draft pick and an NFL star for years to come (think Ben Roethlisberger without the sexual escapades) and the other is going to be struggling to find a place in the NFL after being hyped as the #1 recruit in the nation a few years back.
