MONDAY'S PLAYS
15 DIME PLAY* Boston and Andrew Miller on the Run Line at home against San Diego and Wade LeBlanc. Obviously both starting pitchers are already specified since this is a run line selection. As I release this play at 11 AM Pacific, the Red Sox - on the run line - are anywhere from +105 to -105 depending on where you check in Vegas and offshore.
5 DIME PLAY* LA Angels and Jered Weaver over Florida and Anibel Sanchez. You must specifiy both scheduled starters for this contest. The Angels are -125 in the contest at the majority of sportsbooks I've checked.
Battle of two fill-in starters at Fenway tonight as Wade LeBlanc, making his second start of the season after replacing the injured Aaron Harang in San Diego's rotation, faces Andrew Miller, who was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket where he had a 2.47 ERA in 13 starts to sub for Clay Buchholz, who was put on the disabled list over the weekend.
LeBlanc's first start came at Colorado on Tuesday. He lasted 4.2 innings and allowed three runs in the loss. The left-hander is 1-3 with a 7.46 ERA in six previous interleague starts.
The Padres are coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of the Twins in Minnesota. They've 0-6 against the American League this season and they've dropped eight of their last nine games overall, including five in a row on the road on their current nine-game trip.
Boston bounced back from a 4-2 loss to Milwaukee on Saturday with a 12-3 rout on Sunday. The Red Sox have won 13 of 15 and averaged 7.6 runs in that stretch. Adrian Gonzalez, who faced his former San Diego teammates for the first time, has led the offense by hittinlg .424 and driving in 18 runs during the 13-2 run, boosting his average to .348 on the season with 15 homers and a major league-best 64 RBIs.
Jered Weaver is on another roll for LA, going 2-0 with a 1.36 ERA in his last five starts. He's coming off a 4-0 shutout of Seattle on Tuesday in which he matched a career-high with 128 pitches thrown. That has me a bit concerned, but Weaver - who is 5-1 with a 2.36 ERA in nine road interleague starts in his career - always runs a high pitch count.
The Angels just won two out of three this weekend at Citi Field against the Mets, improving their major league-best interleague record to 53-25.
You know the deal with the Marlins. Their manager quit prior to Sunday's game against Tampa and they promptly lost that contest 2-1, leaving them with a 10-game losing streak. In all they've lost 20 of 22, including 11 of 12 at home.
Today's Note:
Another one-run best bet loser on Sunday as the Cards didn't get the job done on the run line.
That's five of my last seven best bets that have lost by a single run - four of them on the run line.
I'd like to say that's hard to believe, but I'm living the nightmare right now so it's as real as real can be.
Naturally, tonight's best bet is another run line play. Why? Because it's my favorite game on the board and sooner or later fate - or maybe that's fortune - is due to come my way.
